I think that the same good to bad ratio has always existed. People just think that all old games are good because they only revisit the good ones.
Oh, for sure. It' not like crappy games are a new thing, we just tend to either forget the crappy old ones or mock them for our amusement. Thing is when visuals weren't terribly good, the focus for many of the 'good ones' was either the gameplay or the story, rather than most every game todays who's sole focus seems to be on presentation, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it does limit a games lasting value. The result is that many of those older 'good games' weren't simply good, they were great, and often displayed a level of replayability and lasting appeal that outmatch most anything made today.
Oh, and nice AV. Loved that show Reboot, and Megabyte was one of the most badass villains to ever, errr... live? Exist? Whatever, he was amazing. Nice to know I'm not the only one who remembers it!

This man speaks the truth! If I could give an award to a single post, it would probably be this one. I'm a huge fan of classic games, and you've more-or-less summed up why. Not only that, but you backed it up with some great recommendations (How long has GOG been around?!?! What a great site!). Well done!
Now to tear into some Space Quest...
Why thank you!
GoG's been around for awhile now and is actually a pretty damned good site, probably my favorite online distribution site out there which is why I like to promote it whenever the chance pops up
(I'd do it even more if someone payed me to... hint hint!). It's still technically only in beta, but the variety is excellent so far and each game comes in a simple exe for installation and playing.
Made by the same guys who developed The Witcher too, go figure. They really loves them their classic games.
