What did I say? What did I say? WHAT DID I FUCKING SAY!!! 2016 weren't done yet and they took another legend and on Christmas. Wrote and sang one of the best Christmas single for that too. Screw you 2016. 5-6 days left of it wherever you are in the world. Sadly 2017 will just be even dark. 2016 2.0

Rest in Peace Mr George Michael. Dear young sir.

Speaking of musicians, 64 members of the Alexandrov Ensemble, A.K.A. the Red Army Choir, were among those on the Russian Tu-154 that crashed into the Black Sea today. They were on their way to perform at a Christmas celebration for Russian troops. All 92 passengers are feared dead.

On their way to pay their respects at the Cenotaph:

Performing in Berlin, 1948, for an audience of around 30,000:

Leonid Kharitonov, giving the performance that rocketed him to fame almost overnight:

After performing around 1,500 performances across the Russian fronts in World War II, The Red Army Choir toured Europe and the United States throughout the Cold War, performing dances, acrobatics and folk tunes from Russia and the West, continuing to wow and delight. They came to Glasgow in the 60s, I think it was, and my grandfather took my father to see the show. They both found it deeply stirring, and my grandfather reminisced about the experience fondly up until his death. These men set the gold standard for military choirs, and they will be sorely missed.

EDIT:

What then? Time marches on, sometimes giving and sometimes taking away, always without feeling or favour. This year has simply been an unusually harsh lesson in loss. Not much we can do about any of that, really, except light a candle, say a prayer, listen to some records, go out and meet exciting new people, live, love, appreciate what we can.

I swear those celebrities better take extra care in these last few days of 2016.

Dammit! I was thinking about my favorite movies this year. George Michael was featured in two of them this year. Deadpool and Keanu. Seriously, this was my favorite scene this year.

This meme about 2016 sucking is getting on my nerves. Lots of people died in all other years too and we just don't know about it. Minimizing that and preteding this is especially bad and out of the ordinary is an insult to the lesser known dead and the height of folly. People weren't saying that when 9/11 happened or when the quake hit Haiti or when the Tsunami hit southeast asia on Xmas. I don't even know where I'm going with this but it's damn irritating to hear these memes making a punchline out of tragedy.
