Here's the latest clip from the upcoming RoboCop reboot:

Remember in the original when RoboCop super soldiered his way in and out of cover to really shitty music with a random yodel (?) at the end of it? No? Because it never happened? RoboCop was like a walking tank and could take an absurd amount of punishmnt. He just walked into the bullets because they couldn't hurt him. Slow, methodical and... well, robotic.

RoboCop was never agile. His voice was entirely monotone because he is a fucking robot and couldn't express emotions. This looks like every single generic PG-13 action movie ever made, but with the protagonist wearing a Crysis style power suit on. More to the point, why make it PG-13? Why? Fucking teens. Stop doing this, Hollywood. I'm guessing we won't have a plot revolving around Nuke anymore, because heavy drug abuse and gang violence would make a movie R.

So yeah, I feel like this:

Yep, this thread was pure fanboy rage. What did you think of the clip and how much did you like the RoboCop franchise previously?

1) RoboCop was kinda dead after the third theatrical film and that television series.
2) It's PG-13 because PG-13 movies are able to draw in larger crowds. That's why.
3) It'll probably be about as good as the Total Recall remake (also PG-13).
4) Changing up things like "he was never agile" isn't enough to ruin it; it could, instead, make it better.

1) That is true.
2) I know, but I'm tired of things changing for mass appeal.
3) I don't take that as an endorsement of quality.
4) It could have been but this just looks like shit, man. Make no mistake, RoboCop was always shit but it was campy shit with some heart to it. This just looks like mass appeal garbage that doesn't care anymore.

Yeah, to be fair what did you expect?
I liked robocop the cheesy music and that bad ass walking robot rocked!

to be technical though....
it's odd to think an arms company would develop a cyborg with zero tactical know how. If they could build a cyborg capable of walking into gunfire unscathed, it means they can build body armour to equip human police/soldiers with. This would eliminate the need for a hugely expensive cyborg surgery programme!

But anyway I'm on your side.

This is what happens when people tread on Paul Verhoeven's territory.

The first (and I would claim only) movie was everything current Hollywood is deathly affraid of; extremely violent and politically incorrect. No surprise then that a remake results in... this.

Well, that's a shame. I had hoped for something a bit more encouraging, but not for long after seeing the first trailer for the film.

At least there will always be the first film. I forgot about the others, because I haven't seen them in ages - the first one is the one I go back to when I think "I want to watch Robocop".

First off, that music is awesome. Hocus Pocus is a great fucking song.

Second off: that still doesn't stop it from being hilariously out of place for a Robocop movie, and the fact that nothing I've seen so far convinces me that this film will be worth it.

So, good music misplaced in a shitty reboot.

Unless of course the problem with the armor for soldiers is that it's to damn heavy for them to move well in or wear for long.

oh wait that is why.

Yeah, when I heared one of the staff refer to it as "a modern day frankenstien" I facepallmed so hard. It was obvious that this guy had never seen the movie and it made me sad. Its a GOOD movie, it is entertaining and has one of the most genuinly terifying moment in movies (when the guy falls into neuclear waste).

What the hell is wrong with Hocus Pocus? Still, I think it looks pretty bland in general. Coming from someone that isn't a fan of the original I don't have an axe to grind, but I'm still not optimistic. I'm not sure if I'd prefer bland to campy shite, but I might give it a look if it crops up on Netflix or something.

It does look like right Robocack.

But then again, it's less of a creative endeavour made by someone who thought it'd be a lovely idea, and more like a spontaneuous generation. It was inevitable, and since it just grew into existence by marketers and old titles ripe for spiritless remakes rubbing together, it really had no chance.

Unless they Memoryhole the original out of existence one day, there will be a better version of this film readily available. It's by no means a masterpiece, but it had some bloody soul, at least.

Okay, I do think it's pretty important to say I don't know the song and it's somewhat hard to hear the song over the gunfire. Thus, claiming the song was shit was pretty inflammatory on my part. However, I do agree with you and feel it was just really out of place and ... well, if I was in a room and someone asked me "What would be a good song for RoboCop to have a gunfight to" I don't believe this song, had I known it, would really be my first choice.

At the risk of being torn apart by an angry mob, I think it looks alright and am looking forward to watching it.

Maybe it's because I wasn't around when it came out, but the Robocop series never appealed to me much...the movie was kinda crap by any standard (acting, plot, cinematography, etc) imo

while it doesnt look great its still better than robocop 3
I routinely leave poops in my toilet that are better than Robocop 3.

For that matter, Robocop died after the first movie...though it returned like Jesus from the cave in that awesome Data East arcade game.

Data East...Easter...holy crap I think Robocop really is Jesus.

Hurry Detroit, get that statue built!

This kind of thing happens when decades pass between movies.

I will admit it looks like the people that made this had no idea what they were doing and just tried to make it seem way cooler than it actually is, or 'The Matrix' syndrome...

Considering that what's in the trailer is more or less precisely what the old movies would have been like if they had the money and tech back then, I don't see what the problem is.

This reboot could easily blow every Robocop movie out of the water just like Amazing Spider-Man did to the Ramini movies.
If I end up whining about it, I'm going to wait until I actually see the movie before I do.

The only RoboCop movie I actually liked was the first one. RoboCop 2 and 3 made me want to repeatedly bash my head against a wall until I hit a stud.

From what little I've seen of this reboot, it just looks like generic Abrams style modern mainstream Sci-Fi. It doesn't seem to have the same creative soul behind it as the original(and what the hell was up with that music?). I'm probably going to end up seeing it with friends when it comes out, but I'm not holding out any hope that it'll be any good. It does have a fantastic cast though, so it should be at least somewhat entertaining.
