As in Doctor who http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/River_Song

Although they make it appear she's his future wife I have a couple of other theorys.

1)River Song is actually Susan Foreman http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Susan_Foreman

2)River Song is actually Jenny. http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Jenny

Both are people who might know his name.
Both are people who would try to find him... I think...

If anyone wants to crush my theory or state their own go ahead.

Well, after working out what the hell we're talking about I will read this, and look at the episodes and when they're supposed to be set and then come back to you with a theory.

Edit: I don't think the writers know who she is, they're going to blame time travel and say it's complicated and stuff.

Steven Moffat has said only one thing about River Song.

She is not who you think.

Massive, Massive, Massive Spoilers if you have not seen the episode "The Time of Angels"

In this story, River Song is a doctor. She acts with surprise when the Doctor lets slip that she will one day be a professor. In conversation with Father Octavian, she mentions that she was once imprisoned for a crime, and that the Doctor wouldn't help them if he knew who she truly was. It was revealed shortly before the episode aired that the crime was murdering "the best man she ever knew." Fans have speculated that this man could be the Doctor. [2].This proved to be wrong, because when River responsed to Amy's question about piloting the TARDIS, she said that she learn from the best. The Doctor said shy "Well, yeah", thinking that River's talking about him. Anyway, Song said that she sorries that the Doctor was busy then. So, the best isn't the Doctor.

This makes me think she cannot be either Jenny, Susan or a future regeneration of the Doctor.

I really don't get how you worked that out...

Susan being his grand-daughter "Supposedly" would have been able to learn how to drive a tardis on Gallifrey

The Doctor doesn't appear to be good at driving the tardis anyway
Martha once asked him if he needed to pass a test to drive the tardis he said he failed it.

Sadly I can't find a video of it though

I think she's the Rani. It's been hinted she's coming back, she'd know the Doctor's name, she'd also know how to drive a TARDIS.

I like this one, although the Doctor would know if she was a Time Lord as Time Lord's have a psychic link (revealed in series 1).

I doubt it would be Jenny, as Jenny is technically his daughter and the Doctor and River will eventually be married.

Same goes for Susan Foreman as she is the Doctors granddaughter.

It could be, she could have murdered a final regeneration of the Doctor when they fist met, this would account for the Doctor knowing how she dies (In series 4) and how nothing will happen regarding this until the final ever episode of Doctor Who. This theory blows out the water however, the moment the episode is aired that River meets the Doctor for the first time and doesn't kill him. Thus proving me wrong

The Doctor wouldn't be able to recognize her if she stored her Time Lordy essencey thing in a watch. He didn't recognize the Master when he was Dr Yana :) And you have to remember, the Rani is a scientist who toys around with genetics. Who knows what she's done to herself over the years.

My bet is she's The Master's wife and not the Doctors...
The Master's wife died in the "End of Time Pt1"
I know this, I meant a new wife, The Master hardly strikes me as a guy who's gonna wait that long to get a new galpal.

This is all assuming we haven't seen the last of the Master, which I hope we haven't.

I would like to see him escape from the Time War (again) as we can assume he was sent back there with the rest of the Time Lords.

And I hope he will still be played by John Simm.

I highly doubt they'd get rid of him, especially as John Simm is brilliant as The Master. It was left rather ambiguous as to what happened to him at the end of it all and I would expect him to appear eventually.

She's going to be whoever the writer feels like making her at the time. Moffat will say "bet you never guessed that" with a roguish smile and a twinkle in his eye.

I'm not sure what to make of River Song. Believe me, I've guessed at almost all the theories above myself, including the Rani and Jenny theory. I've other more complex theories stored up in my brain, but my problem is with her is that as a charecter she sort of gets on my nerves. But I think some how the chances of her turning out to be Mrs Doctor are pretty remote considering current developments, but you never know. We shall, unfortuately, have to see.

She could've learned from a different timelord from the doctor or master entirely. The master managed to avoid the doctor's gaze, so why couldn't any others?
