Why would Jenny know his name?
I just think River Song is her own character. If I wanted to get into fan-wank territory I'd say Romana, because I adore Romana, but she isn't like any Time Lord character we've yet met in who-dom. Maybe she's a Time Lord, but not a former companion.
Closest thing I can think of is Ace, who (depending on which spin offs you read) may or may not have gone to Gallifrey to become a Time Lord. River's personality is a little like Ace, and if Ace became a Time Lord (how does that work, anyway?) before the Time War began, it would fit with continuity. Ace certainly wouldn't obey the non-interference laws after any time with the Doctor.

Of course, this whole theory depends on the expanded universe being canon.

Damn you, I was going to say she was Ace you nerdy ninja! God I hated Ace.

OK I'm going to put forward the suggestion that River Song is Leela even though she is nothing like Leela, except that they are both killers. Leela left the Doctor to stay on Gallifrey with Andred so that puts her in the mix to learn Tardis piloting etc. The problem with any older companions is that River Song said the tenth Doctor looked young, so I think she may have her own story. I'll hold off judgement until River Song kills someone with a Janis Thorn though.

I have jsust had a thought, what if its donna, she could regenerate as she is half time lord now. She couldve died and then regenrated........di cant work out the details but wouldnt that be a great theory.
She's not half Time Lord now anyway, the 10th Doctor had to abosrb that part of her.

She's going to be whoever the writer feels like making her at the time. Moffat will say "bet you never guessed that" with a roguish smile and a twinkle in his eye.
I agree with both of these.

I think she's awesome. Does that mean Word of God states she's not awesome?

>.>

The end result will likely be this:

They're going to overrun their established canon, and we will get the "Timey Wimey" excuse.

It was just a clip of Martha asking the doctor if people needed a licence to drive a TARDIS, to which he replied that the Time Lords did and he'd failed the test.

Seriously that was nearly a year ago, I had to read half of the first page to remember what it was.

Oops, forgot to check the dates. Thanks for letting me know anyway.

I always thought it would be awesome if it was somehow Rose... But that is probably more wishful thinking than anything else.

He also said that River is definitely NOT Amy in the future.

OT: Moffat has said that we will find out who she is in series 6.
I personally hope she is a Time Lord-turned human.

No idea,, but we'll find out in the first two-parter of the next series. Can't wait.

Anyone have any idea who that woman might be in End of Time Part Two?
Popular speculation is that it is the Doctor's mother.

River Song can't be a future regeneration of the Doctor for one very good reason

she dies
and if she dies
that means the series has to end
and even if the series is forced to end for good
it will be something spectacular and not a section from a previous episode where he gets killed by the Vashta nerada

I think RTD himself said that, though he did stress that it was just his opinion and future writers could do want they pleased with her if they so wanted. Which is good, because it's a terrible idea. I so wanted her to be Romana. At least then I could have pretended to be watching The Ribos Operation or City of Death or something rather than End of Time.

Oooooh Ace, I like that. The Time Lord psychic link thing seems to really work only when it suits the writer anyway, but if you really want to get around that I guess she could've only gone to the Prydonian Academy without actually becoming a Time Lord so that she'd be just a time traveling human. And, I don't know, she could've been bitten by a space jellyfish that makes you change your appearance. Anything to have
Sophie Aldred back for an episode, really. Plus the little Andrew Cartmel inside my head would finally shut up.

I believe that River Song is actually Rose Tyler, and I actually have reasons why:

In Season 1, episode 1 (Rose), Rose's boyfriend Mickey gets turned into one of the plastic shop window dummies.
The Doctor tears off Mickey's swappable head. Rose and The Doctor later find the controller of the dummies, and he
refers to it as a 'Nestine conciousness."

In Season 5, episode 13 (The Big Bang), when River learns that Rory (in the form of the plastic centurion) is on their side,
she says "I dated a plastic Nestine one, swappable head, kept it fresh."

Mickey is turned into a plastic Nestine. Rose dated Mickey. Rose loved the Doctor in the same way that River loves the
Doctor (or so it seems). In a supposed deleted scene in the episode where the 10th Doctor drops off Rose and the 10th
Doctor that comes from the hand, the real Doctor gives them a TARDIS coral so that they could grow their own TARDIS.

What if Rose kills the human Doctor and somehow absorbs Time Lord energy from him or from their TARDIS?

As for the Amy is River thing, I kind of understand that, but I disagree with the journal aspect, because I think that it would
be empty because the Doctor had never existed at that point.

I may be, and probably am, completely wrong, but it just seemed very coincidental.

I, personally, think she could be the Doctor's wife - as seen in 'The End of Time P2'.

There was that old lady, the one with her hands covering her face, that was hinted at being his wife.

I like the Rose theory but I thought in the episode with the vashda narada in 'the silence in the Library', When River meets the doctor she doesnt recognise him and she comments on how she had met him when he was older..............i think!! so i reckon it kind of rules it out.

Here's a slightly mad one.

The Doctor and River do get married. And River does kill THE BEST MAN [she has ever known]

(extreme hint)
unlikely, but I think we should consider all the possibilities

My thoughts were that river song was Amy. but that though has been shut down by the writer. my second thought was the river is the masters wife. but this also doesn't work.

IF river was the masters wife, the greatest man she ever knew that she killed would have had to been the master. Because the doctor cant die. it cant be the masters wife because for river to have killed the greatest man she ever knew would have to be in the gap between the pandorica opens and the time of angels because river already knew about the pandroica in the time of angels

---Past-------------| The pandorica opens/the big bang |-------(river killed the man)------------| the time of angels/ flesh and stone|--------future---

she cant be lucy saxson because she would have had to be young as she was in "The End of Time" , in the gap. so this theory doesn't fit!

any thoughts from anyone else?

i dont think anyone knows yet. and if the writers do i dont think there are any real clues in the show yet.

not sure who it was but in that episode where the timelords were coming back cause the master brought them. they focused on some women next to the main timelord. who was that?

River flirts too much with the Doctor to be mother or daughter... also she said "Don't worry I'm quite the screamer, now there's a spoiler for you..." I'm saying she's his wife.
