I'm not sure how I feel about her. Her character has changed since Silence in the Library, she was actually quite likable there but now she seems to have been made into some sort of intergalagtic bad-ass and she does grate on me at times. Plus she was used far too heavily in this series to be insignificant.

I would love to see the Rani come back. I know she was only in 2 of the original serials but I always thought she was far more interesting than the Master.

Also, somewhat off topic, what was the deal with the new master anyway? Why do we have to explain why everyone is bad these days? Looking into the time vortex and going mad? Honestly! Why can't we just accept that he is a corrupted renegade timelord (not too unlike the doctor in that respect) who wants to use his status as a timelord to do evil things. /rant

Y'know, the more I think about it, the more I think that River just might turn out to be Jenny.
I mean think about it, she could have easily changed her name to River Song since Jenny was just a name given to her by Donna and although she liked it at the time she could have changed her mind.
I know this is a cheep shot but they are both blonde.
They both are highly skilled with weapons and can lack 'MERCY!' (as a Dalek once screamed).
The whole complex space-time event around Jenny's 'birth' is paradox so why not the rest of her life?
But oh wait, River said she'd never seen him so young in the Libary, so that can't work. Oh dear.
Y'know, maybe she's just a morally questionable archeologist (not unlike Indiana Jones) from the future who keeps running into the Doctor in the wrong order. What she is to the future Doctor is still open for debate.

Im still suspicious she's the master.
I hadn't thought of that. The Doctor and the Master did have a bit of 'married couple' dialogue in some of the episodes towards the end of Tennant's stint as the Doctor.

The last time I watched any of the 'old' Dr Whos I was about 8 and I can't remember if there was any mention of Time Lords regenerating as the opposit gender?
There was a very short episode I watched between the last of the 'old series' and Christopher Eccleston in which the doctor was killed several times and worked his way through several different actors until he eventually ran out of energy to regenerate and "nature didn't want him to die" so he came back as a woman. It was just a speculative episode though.

The Curse of the Fatal Death?

REALLY a spoof, but written by Moffat himself.

Yep, that's it. Did you just pull that from your memory?

I did think that breifly but surely Time Lords are used to regeneration and he'd recognise her even with a new face?

I swear she said she was his wife.
Doesn't she know his true name or something?
She never said that the dialogue was something like this

Amy: Are you his wife?
River: *pause* You're good. I am not saying you are right but you are good.

It is possible that to get Tennant Doctor to trust her she had to know his real name.

Not sure. But I adore Alex Kingston and her presence has been enough to make me spare the new Dr Who more than a passing glance. I hope that she is properly explained and doesn't just become a convenience for when a writer puts themselves in a corner (like K9, or the sonic screwdriver).

There was a rogue female Time Lord (Lady?) called The Mari but I am not sure she was a "goodie".

Considering the quality (or amazing lack thereof) of the current writer it will either be the Doctor himself or the Master.
Either way I just want to know why they went with someone so old and not very attractive for the role. Seriously, she reminds me of Liz from Nip/Tuck. -.-;
I was so glad when they finally got rid of Donna now we get another one of those.
I disagree. Donna was one of the best companions so far, Amy Pond, as attractive and fuckable as she is, is only a touch better than Martha Jones in my opinion (THE WORST COMPANION SO FAR). She's too fey, which doesn't work with the fact that the Doctor is as well. Donna worked brilliantly because she was down to earth and talked back to the Doctor, and River's amazing for exactly the same reason. If you don't like the characters because "They're too old and not very attractve", grow up and realise that just because the actor playing a character isn't to your tastes doesn't mean that they're a bad character.

The latest series is shocking, with the dalek power rangers, the TARDIS looking like a kid's playground, resolutions that make no sense, and the episodes never really flow, they jerk. The latest 2 parter made up for it a little bit, but it was still a very wishy washy resolution.

I think he meant from The Forest of the Dead episodes. I deffinitely remember her saying she was his wife.

Edit: While I believe, and hope, that she is a new character I do think that (if she is someone they're bringing back) that she'll be Romana.

Master MAY be possible but then again the master appeared once after River, so there is that. But thanks to time travel, still very possible.

I think she is a "new" character of her own...aaand i'm pretty sure she is a big villian at one point. I feel like it's definitly hinted.

Would be funny if she starts of in her own timeline as a villian and turns "good" thanks to the doctor, helping him in "his" past.
Or of course, she might be "beyond good and evil", all shades of grey like, and just happens to occasionally have the same goals as the doctor.
