That thing belongs in the uncanny valley. Japan will not be happy until we're all replaced by robots. Frankly, I'm convinced they've always wanted that. South Korea just expects it to happen. Eh, call me paranoid, but I always get nervous around people playing God.

As awesome as it is, it's just not as unsettling as Big Dog.
The first time I saw that video, I actively felt fear.

lol, that hardly counts does it? it's only off the ground a miniscule time and at a miniscule distance off the ground.
Let's face it, it already runs better than most armchair-ensconced human fatbags.

Ah... a forum packed with people who think about robot domination the moment they see a video like that. I am not alone.

Otherwise, that's amazing.

Looks like the Big Dog ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-AGWq0k_Mo ) has some competition. Now just upscale it and slap some 105 mm cannons on that bad boy. I'd drive it.
us and japan are going to have a robot war and we will win because ours jumps

heh heh it looked like it was about to deck out the person who shoved it

wouldn't that be scary, you design a robot to run and it beats you up?

Well, at least we can still run faster. But I feel sorry for poor ol' Rosie O' Donnelll. She's so fat her name gets an extra letter.

It is funny how evolution made humans into bipedal beings which is actually a disadvantage when it comes to running and even balance which explains why emulating a robot to be like us is so hard.
We can see over things this way, like a meer cat.

My God! I find this one even more disturbing than the bipedal one (could be because of the DARPA stamp at the end, I'm not sure). The rubble it climbs is just begging to be made of human skulls. :(

Wow. Now all we need to happen is for one to be built that juggles knives.

Then my plans can finally be set into motion...

We are all gonna die... i had fifty down on a zombie apocalyspe, I guess I lost...
Don't throw away your bet just yet, some stupid egotistical scientist is still more likely to create a zombie making disease sooner than a robot gets smart enough to want us out of the way.
Nice thing about robots now, you are gonna hear them coming from miles away.

Can we ever have a thread about robots without everyone making jokes about them becoming self-aware?
You are speaking of a website forum that is loaded with nerds. Of course there are going to be self-aware robot jokes. Pfft!

It's gonna be a long time before anyone puts artificial intelligent processing power into a robot that size. Might give your grandchildren forewarning though. With the rampant hacking though, I'd be more concerned about human interference causing robots to go homicidal long before robots grow smart enough to hate us. Frankly I got flashbacks of show and tell back in class, and got bored.

As mentioned, this is complicated and difficult to do. This very thing is often what leads me to dislike most animes and other cartoons that involve humanoid robots. The science behind it is not practical and in the future there are certain to be simpler modes of transportation. The only ones that I've accepted are Transformers (because they are in fact their own life form) and Evangelion (because... er... well, watch it if you want to know).

That said, this is highly impressive.

thats the thing half the humanoid robots in anime seem to be really androids that use partly organic systems which in my opinion are a short cut so they dont have to design a mechanical analog. Which as we have seen seems to be a very hard thing to do, though ive heard a few studies that might make it easier to get a walking robot using learning software instead of writing the code themselves though we may not see the robot walk like we do which is a draw back in the design.

btw anyone notice the robot seems to be designed to walk on what on us would be its toes?
