Rocko's Modern Life Movie: Sneak Peak

I for one am fairly excited. That IP hasn't been touched in a long long time. I wonder if a reboot of the show is within the realm of possibility. It's like the hand of God has intervened in our universe to bring back meaning in a world otherwise devoid of it.

Original voices. Im in.

I kind of am bothered that it might be too much just "oh look how today is different than the 90's"...but I laughed alot, so thats good. Plus I mean its called "Rocko's MODERN Life".

yeah I'm worried about that too even though I laughed at most of them, hopefully it's mostly at the beginning.

I love this so much. The serious Really Really Big Man joke was my favorite. also how did they get away with that hose energy drink one.

Wow ... I didn't realize 30-40 year age bracket had that much disposable income to dedicate a movie exclusively too. I grew up with Rocko's Modern Life, and it was damn near prescient.

I'm not sure how much the satire will survive beyond now middle age millenials nodding their head and gelling with the lightning fast pace of technology leaving even us in the dust, and going so far as to change the very physiology of the brains of today's children.

It's actually pretty frightening. We were frightened back when Rocko was airing and we considered the jobs market shift to 'part time permanent' was happening, and we're even more frightened now with 6 month contracts and year long internships ... but neither Baby bomers will listen to us nor will the kids that we're having.

Hard to make a movie that only 12% of us in the West will get. Because no one outside the 30-40 year bracket will understand why we liked this show and why it was probably one of our first formative looks at economic theory and the philosophies of hyperconsumerism that we kind of just 'gelled with' as time went on.

Going to be honest, this show taught me more economic theory satire than high school did simply by making it relatable. Dead-end afterschool job at 13, being abused by bosses at a young age, being taxed by a government by about 30% of my $4US an hour job, that told me I was also powerless to change it, being lied to by Baby Boomers by saying how they had it 'tougher' and I should be grateful for getting 7 hours of rest before going to school.

Rocko's Modern Life was a breath of fresh air of just how lonely and betrayed of basic civility we were. The falsity of the new. The painful emptiness. It gelled with me. But very few I think will get that if they're either much younger or much older.

Well, at least it's not one of those early 2000 movies trying to squeeze ticket sales out of a currently popular cartoon show.

That digital animation though... eesh!

I don't know why they made Really Really Big Man all dark and gritty when Marvel movies have been the more successful with its lighthearted tone and Cinematic Universe

I mean geez did the Dark Knight really had that bigger of an impact than Marvel's cinematic universe?

The dark version of really really big man makes sense, because keep in mind, that he was meant as a parody of Superman. So they're going more for DC parody than Marvel parody. Though I'm not a fan of the animation, I am glad they got the original voice cast back. I look forward to seeing it.

Props for using traditional-style animation. Bonus props for doing it well! Way too much CGI these days.

Heh, it make me wonder if the other 90's cartoon characters would act the same way as Rocko did or be like Hector and Sherman (wow I actually still remember their names???).

This certainly made me feel like an old man. Had I fell into a coma at the 90s and woke up today, I don't know if I would react like Rocko or like Hector and Sherman (or like a combination of the three); although I'm sure I would be totally disappointed at the absence of flying cars and hoverboards.

Huh. That looks like they might not ruin the franchise.

I just used to think the show was funny. Mind you, I was at high school at the time, those issues were a few months of years away.

I dunno, seems like they're going after the low-hanging fruit here.... I mean, a "Boy, there sure are a lot of Starbucks" joke? In 2017? "Electronics sure become obsolete fast!" Really hitting hard with the social commentary there.

The animation looks incredible, though.

...you mean Heffer and Filburt?

Were they called something different outside of the US?

It's kinda weird that two of you got the names wrong in exactly the same way.

Maybe it's one of those Berenstain/Berenstein things.

I do remember watching a lot of this show, but it never really resonated with me, and certainly was far from my favourite show at the time. Get back to me when they decide to bring back Aaahh! Real Monsters, then we'll talk.
