I grew up watching this his show, and still read his reviews. I always felt like he "got" movies better than anyone else on this planet.

Personally disagreed with him constantly on a range of issues, but I am saddened to hear he has passed away.

Rest in peace, Mr. Ebert

Give our best to Gene Siskel when you see him

He was a great man and a fantastic writer. I remember reading his blog yesterday how he said he would take 'a leave of presence' to focus on his health and now this. Also in that same blog post I thought he hinted at some change in his opinions of games too. He said that he was thinking about Kickstarting his show again and maybe put out a movie game app. He said we (gamers) could debate him on whether it was art. I thought it was lighthearted and that he might or was coming around on his opinions. A shame he's gone.
R.I.P Roger, you will be missed.

I'll be fair - I never really agreed with his reviews, for the most part, never really adored him.

But still...

He tells us that he was going to take a break, then he died. It's like when Charles Schultz died the night before his retirement comic was put out... and just as tragic. :(

He'd just posted a whole slew of plans for expanding existing projects and taking on new ones on his website, so I have to suspect this came as as much of a shock to him and his family as to his audience.

I was very sorry to hear of his passing. Sure, I didn't always agree with him, but he wrote with intelligence and wit and was tremendously kind, generous, and engaged with his audience. He will be missed.

Alas, the balcony is closed.

I saw the news an hour ago and the new tribute Doug Walker put for Ebert on his site. I'll be honest, I never watched a lot of his reviews but I understand his impact. May he be in peace.

So Roger has gone Beyond...Beyond the Valley of the Dolls...let him be remembered for the great work he did...most importantly for the line " Ere this night does wane, you will drink the black sperm of my vengeance!".

I am not kidding, that is a great line.

Well shit...

I kinda had a feeling as his review site was suddenly filled with Roeper's stuff, but when the moment is actually there it's still pretty shocking.

One of if not the best reviewer out there. He really knew how to take movies apart and expose them for what they were. Apart ofcourse from those times when he was flat out wrong.

May your constellation shine brightly, Roger.

Jesus, I can't believe he's dead, I may have disagreed with him over his views on videogames and especially to his reaction over Ryan Dunn's death (that was tasteless), but I respect him for what he did for film criticism.

Rest in Peace Mr Ebert

RIP, you were one of my favorite film critics, and one of my most trusted sources for film reviews.

It's a shame that he passed away, but it must be said that many of his reviews weren't very good.

I wonder how MovieBob is taking the news.

He was a legend in the critiquing biz, I'm sure he will be missed. :(

I never read anything he wrote, but he was such a gigantic influence on so many people that he will be missed. I'll raise a glass to him.

I know I'm an asshole for saying this but . . . That's a long break.

I'm going to celebrate his life by reading all his reviews and watching his show for a couple of days.
