Most RPG's are still being released on the PS2. When everyone finally decides to do the system change over the PS3 will quickly become the RPG system.
No. It's already happened. The DS is the RPG system now. Particularly for Japan, where the ultimate weathervane, and the highest selling RPG franchise ever, is DS bound for it's next main installment (Dragon Quest IX, as mentioned).
The PS3 is actually looking a bit light for RPGs to be honest. As of now, there's only Oblivion and Enchanted Arms, with a rerelease of Eternal Sonata maybe coming out one day (some screens were shown, but it's all been a bit quiet since). There are a couple on the way, of course, various flavours of FFXIII, White Knight Story, and Disgaea 3 are definites (Disgaea 3 is out in Japan, but with no news of localisation), and The Last Remnant and Star Ocean 4 were supposedly PS3 bound, but both are now releasing to the Xbox first with PS3 versions "to be considered", and Fallout 3 is multiplatform.
The Wii doesn't have many either. Dragon Quest Swords is there, as is the new Fire Emblem, but that's about your lot.
and you dont have to play as the main character which means you can go around using the more exotic characters in the game towards the end.
Well, your choice is limited by the fact that of the three lead characters, two of them are your best healers, so you're likely to have one of them for most of the game.
