Dear Escapists,

How is everyone doing? How are the mods? How are the families?

Anyway, apart from the cheesy introduction on my behalf, I have a question, what are some of the great Tabletop/RPG games which have rulebooks with great artwork in it?

For example, I have seen the Pathfinder Rulebooks (Bestiary, Companions, etc) as well most of the Warhammer Rulebooks.

Anyone know of any other games which have such good artwork? Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Steampunk, I have no preference, but I am a sucker for them all.

On the same note as pathfinder, the D&D monster manuals had awesome images, most of which you can see online at their website.

You know if there is any difference between the online site and books themselves? I'm curious in that regard.

Jon Hodgson and Pat Loboyko are probably my fave RPG illustrators. Look their shit up. NOW.
Holy crap, I was looking for these two guys a while ago after I saw some random images from them. Thank you for the names my good sir!

Most of the imagery on the website is straight up ripped from the pages of the books.

I liked the artwork for the D&D 3rd ed. Book of Vile Darkness. Some good artwork, most of it kind of dark and macabre.

Storn Cook is also worth a gander, mostly for his coverwork (IMO)

Dark Heresy: A 40k RPG where you play as an inquisition agent, a lot of good warhammer 40k artwork in there.
Aye, indeed. I have several pieces of the Dark Heresy, once is called Character Folio + Extra, Core, Disciples and...that's it? I picked them up from a friend, so not sure if I'm missing something.

Aww, but still, that will save me pretty penny. Thanks mate.

Argh, 3rd Edition? Are they easy to find usually or are they lost relics now? Most places I see they stock on 3.5 or 4.

You know loads of great illustrators names, give me a few more names, and I'll have massive nerdgasm and die...in other words, thank you mate.

Nope, no difference. I don't think every picture in the books are on the web but the ones that are are the exact same of those in the manuals.

Book of Vile Darkness and it's counterpart, the Book of Exalted Deeds, have some more mature artwork, and are still around if you know which stones to look under. I found both at a small hobby shop near where I live, but I didn't buy them, and have pretty much quit playing since.

The guy who used to DM for the group I played had both, and I assure you they've got some exceptionally good stuff in it.

There's always Ebay!... yeah.

There's Ron Spencer, DiTerlizzi, Brom (who has an exceptional sense of humor), Jeff Miracola, Eric Polak, Monte Moore for just a few.

Heh... okay but since I mentioned Storn and Jon, I have to mention Eric Lofgren as well. Don't ask why, it's just something that has to be done.

4E's art is inconsistent. Some of it is really really good, and some of it is horrendously shitty.

D&D 2e's art is pretty much consistently good, but 2e's for nostalgiafags now, so whatever.

Star Wars Saga has art that is similarly inconsistent with 4E's art style, but leans more towards the good end of the spectrum in general.

Queen's Blade. It's pretty expensive to get a few of the books, but it's fun to play.
Ah, yes, true. Forgot about that, thanks.

Star-Wars you say, eh? I guess it wouldn't hurt to take a look since it's more good then bad.

You're very welcome. There's also a computer app someone made to play it with an AI as an alternative to buying the books and playing with someone else, but I forget where to get it.
