For £45 ($70).
Check your math, it's 60 bucks over here.

OT: Okay, so amazon has the better price...go buy it there?

I feel like I'm missing the problem here.
Steam do not mandate fair pricing internationally. It is £45 on steam. If you google currency converter and put £45 and change it to USD youll get $69.43. All that fact that your getting it for $60 in the stats means is that CA or whoever has set the price is INTENTIONALLY trying to screw over the British market simply because they think the British can/will pay more.
They don't THINK it... my guess is that you WILL.

Basic economic equilibrium and all that jazz.

I don't really feel for you, either, seeing that Australia has had much bigger price gaps with less fuss.
$70AUS is the equivalent to £45! So we're all getting ripped off!

They dont make a fuss because they have always had it. Its a little different if you go buy the paper one day and its $1, you go back the next day and its $10, especially if all the other papers are still $1. Youd be asking wtf too.
Yes, I would.

However, in this case, I have walked out to the paper stand when it used to be $1, and now it costs $1.16 ($1 * $70/$60).

I'd sigh and buy it.

If you wish to not buy it until it's $1 again, good for you. But being dishonest in your examples does you no favors.

Yes. I installed a physical copy of XCOM:EU and now it's in my Steam Library, and lo and behold, I was able to install it via Steam on my laptop as well.

Had a feeling it would be ridiculously expensive. When I first joined up on Steam £30 was the normal price. £45 is fucking insane and I really hope nobody pays that kind of price, you can't encourage that kind of practice.

In situations like this, I like to compare the price to fun ratio of games to beer.

Say for instance, "Indie Game 2286" is on sale at £1.25. Am I going to have more fun with this than the equivalent value of beer? Well that's about half a pint for me and me only, so if I get more than 10 minutes of entertainment out of it, then money well spent.

£45 is different. That's four or five crates of beer. That could fuel a small house party. Now that could very well be a highly entertaining evening. OR that £45 could buy me Rome 2, which given my history with the Total War series could amount to 200+ hours clocked before Christmas.

Guess where my money's going.

Game.co.uk has it at £30 WITH the Greek Cities pre-order DLC. Pre-order policy is the same as Amazon's - pay on dispatch, price will decrease but never increase.

When you install it, you activate it on Steam and it lives there.

Perfect solution.

Well considering steams practice of putting most game about to release at a 10% discount you will likely wont have to pay that price if you wait a bit anyway> However I do see your point about unfair business practices since they cant really claim its import tax since your not actually importing anything.

Although I personally don't mind paying £45 for a total war game, considering how good bloody good their games are, I'm not one for missing out on a bargain: http://blog.playfire.com/

Sorry if this against the forums rules I don't often post on here.

Dude, £30 to £45 is a third mark up. Get it out of your head that $60 is the regular retail price. Its not. Most PC games in the UK sell for the equivalent of $46.25 up to about $54. They are charging 70. Its insane. Especially since as pointed out multiple UK retailers such as Game and Amazon have it for equivalent $46, Game even includes the DLC with that and Play.com actually has it up for $40 (£25.98), NEARLY HALF THE COST!

Because everyone keeps throwing money at Valve. 'Shut up and take my money' is the general attitude towards Steam.

So, they do what everyone wanted apparently. And I'll bet you it will still sell well because people will pay extra just to have the thing in the Stem list.
Stupid thing is, if they do with Rome II what they did with Shogun II then you have to activate you CD key on steam and it just drops it into your steam library anyway...

Just going to throw my Australian Steam Price in, $79.95 USD. If I was to buy today I would be saving 55c on the currency conversion!

Blame Sega, Steam has nothing to do with what price a publisher sets for each individual reason.

So once again CA shoots themselves in the foot by locking out entire bloody factions, (iconic ones at that). Fucking hell, why would you lock them out for DLC, when modders will just make custom versions of the same factions anyways?

I thought we in NZ shared your crazy-ass prices, but clearly not for everything. It's "only" 60USD for me.

The benefit to preordering is that you unlock the Greek factions for free.

I can't believe they are putting the greek factions (Sparta, Athens, Epirus) in as Day 1 DLC/Preorder bonuses. It seems increadibly insulting to put some of the most iconic ancient factions from the mediterranean (not to mention ones that were free in the first game) and locking them behind a paywall. Sadly I can see them doign something similar to Parthia and the Selucids as well. I seem to recall the devs promising that they wouldn't cut content out for DLC this time around, It's nice to know how much their word is worth that they are willing to cut out some of the core factions to make a quick buck.

To add insult to injury, some of Macedon's units can't be used unless you buy the DLC.

I yearn for the days of Rome Total War/Medieval II Total War at this point. All this preorder and DLC nonsense giving access to units and factions is really irritating and blatent money grabbing, not to mention it is absolutely devestating to the amazing Total War modding community.
If I remember right from one of their development videos, they already put the game forward and got it greenlit and are only focusing on QA right now, but some programmers had spare time to code in other factions in the space they have right now, which is why they're making them DLC rather than having to code them directly into the game itself and potentially causing a delay in it's release.

OK, the paper costs $1.50. Gee, that happens to be EXACTLY what happened to my newspapers recently. Huh. Anyhow, you still were being wildly dishonest about your comparison.

Also, yay! You found a price you prefer. Goodie! So what's the problem? You can let the whole Steam thing go now.

That is the complete list of retailers which grant the Greeks as preorder bonuses. It includes Amazon.com/co.uk, so our fears about having to take the outrageous £45 cost on Steam are unfounded.

I think they went too far for me. They could've had some sort of obscure or novelty factions as a DLC and pre-order bonus, e.g. Thrace or Spain. But Athens and Sparta? That's a piss take. Won't be preordering, won't be buying. You shouldn't even be contemplating pre-ordering a game like this anyway. It's a series with very inconsistent quality; you should be looking for some kind of indication that the game doesn't suck before putting any money down, e.g. a first impressions from a reliable source. This is why people keep getting burned by low quality games.
