So, upon wandering my way to Steam today, I noticed that (as the title suggests) Rome: Total War Gold is only $1.
Although my advice does not carry the weight of a 2.5k+ poster, I strongly advise anyone to try Rome, as it is one of the best Total War games out there. Besides, what do you got to lose? One dollar? Give it a try, and have fun.
(inb4 exchange rates get this all mangled)

Oh heck yeah. I've been wanting to try this game ever since I found out it was a thing, but I've managed to miss it basically every time it went on sale. The later total war games are cool and all, but I just love ancient Rome.

Edit: Oh this is funny. They dropped the price of the base game, but they left both the Alexander expansion and the bundle that came with it at full price. Which means if you want both you can either pay $6 individually, or $13 for the bundle.

Obligatory post complaining about how I have to pay £1, it's a conspiracy, disregard for exchange rate, etc...
Glad to finally get rid of the random £1 sat in my steam wallet though, totally worth it.

I want this. How is the AI on the game? Any issues I should know about? How are the mods for it? Cheers. Also kindly place a link to the steam page, I'm lazy to fire up steam and check it out.

Oh I got it, I was just warning people to buy the expansion separately if they wanted it -- the bundle is actually more expensive than buying the games individually right now XD

Rome: Total War

The AI is... eh. The biggest problems with is that it becomes predictable quite fast, making them easy to outmaneuver and flank. Issues? Nothing really big other than play issues that are poorly explained, like making sure you don't acquire too much money or your governors will become corrupt. Also start off with the Brutii faction, as that is the easiest to expand. The mod support for the game is extensive and there are entire campaigns for it.

I did not notice that.

And the great Steam drain of my wallet continues!

Any mods you can recommend to improve the AI?(that work) My biggest problem with Shogun 2 is that the AI was just crap. Generals going man mode and leaving the enemy behind, the AI just pulls out some massive armies out of someone's arse and I just don't like the setting and troops.

The AI is pretty standard for strategy games. It's not good, but it's not atrocious either. Some of the other TW games have worse AI. It's somewhat predictable, but it serves it's purpose.
