Roomate Banging Down My Door

OK this literally just happened, so I'm still a little wound up over it but here it goes. I was making a meal (as you do) while my 1 roomate was annoying my second roomate (for the purpose of ease, roomate 1 is Bob, roomate 2 is Jim). This went on for quite a while and while I wasn't looking Bob went and stole my phone which I left out on a timer and starting taking a video of Jim. Jim could apparently deal with the whole being taken the piss of but when a video was taken of him (it took him a while to realise) he then went around demanding the video be deleted. However BOB found it funny to hide the video somewhere in my phone, so I literally couldn't find it. While I got my phone back Jim learnt of the video (which to my knowledge is of him just walking down a corridor) and started demanding to see my phone. I asked why, he said he wanted to see what was on it. I took this as an invasion of my privacy and refused. He then started fuming, pacing back and forth, at one point attacking my dinner (he's...weird...) and kept demanding the video. I went back to my room telling him to grow up. He then started banging on my door claiming to get security on me and then the police. I decided to ignore it, but then he literally broke the door's hinges and was still fuming. Bob was gleefully jumping about in the corner like a monkey.

So I still refused him to see my phone just because I have things on there I'd rather not be seen by anyone...the door lies propped against my wall broken and I'm gonna have to call the warden in on this matter and some how explain how I'm innocent in the whole matter. So what I ask of you lot is what you feel about this matter? Any thoughts, criticisements, general all round gossip about the matter. Whether I approached it wrong (being pretty clueless of the matter to begin with) or whether I just have psychotic roomates. Do you feel his actions are justified? Seriously anything that comes to your head just shout it out.

Okay, first off, you're not in the wrong here. AT ALL.

You need to tell Bob that he can't just grab your phone and start filming Jim just because he wants to push his buttons. Bob needs to know when to stop, and clearly he doesn't get the gravity of this situation. Jim's obviously gonna have to pay for the door (if any of you guys have to actually pay for the damages yourselves), but you need to make it so Bob has to chip in to replace the door as well (hell, make him split the bill with Jim). Bob started this whole mess by taping Jim and getting him all riled up, and it's his initial actions that ended up with your door busted off the hinges.

Hmm, I'd say, from your description, that Bob is an obnoxious moron and Jim is violently and disproportionately paranoid.

I can't think of anything else you could have done. Even trying to reason with them and better understand the situation probably wouldn't have worked very well, with Bob being as unhelpful as possible and Jim losing any sense of reason...

Honestly, the only thing that you are at fault for is picking 9 year olds as roomies.

They're both psychos. You did nothing wrong except pick shitty roommates.
First year student accomodation so I didn't get to choose.

Also I'd like to point out now Jim's tried to hack into my computer via the student network to try and browse through my files to see if he can find the video. Invasion of privacy much?

Bro, don't worry. This is NONE of your fault.
If you didn't want him to see certain stuff on your phone, then he shouldn't.
I mean, I was almost gonna side with "Jim" a little, but when someone kicks down your door and DOESN'T tell you why he needs to see it, screw that, man.

Hope your warden finds you innocent like he should.

Okay, so step 1, and this is especially important if you want to make sure that you're not the one paying for the door, call the warden ASAP (as in, if you can call him now, do it now). Reporting these types of things as quickly as possible is really important, if you wait to report it then sometimes you can be suspected of having tried to make up a story, not to mention, if either of your roommates starts thinking they could get in trouble over this (as they clearly both should), they could tell a pre-emptive lie to make you look like the guilty party in order to save their own asses.

Step 2, if I were you, I would request to be switched to different roommates. Bob is clearly both a jackass and an idiot, and Jim is in desperate need of anger management classes. That's not a suitable environment in which to try and study, and you would be well within your rights to request that you be given a room where you don't have to deal with this kind of bullshit.

Step 3, I don't know what's on your phone that you didn't want anyone else to see, but in order to verify the story, there's a good chance that they'll want to look through your phone to find the video in question. If you don't want the authorities to see what's on your phone, especially if it's something that could implicate you in illegal activities, then you need to get those photos off your phone sooner than later.

The point that STILL baffles me is that Bob hid some of Jim's stuff, but he was fine with that, he then stuck a piece of paper against the window that was fairly embaressing, but nope that's still in the clear too. As soon as a video is taken of him, literally WALKING DOWN A CORRIDOR (still to find it though so I dunno what actually happened, this is all bob tells me) he flips out and starts breaking peoples stuff. I also like to point out his threats at my invasion of privacy have made it so I don't think I should sleep tonight because THE DOOR IS BROKEN!!! That and I have lectures tomorrow, sooo, fml world, fml T_T

You got balls, man.

If I were you, I'd send the video to everyone on my contact list just for payback.
I'm a ***** like that.

I thankfully don't have to live with people my own age, so I don't know exactly how it works, but I say make a whole lot of noise until someone fixes it. And I don't mean scream like a loon, go complain to whoever is in charge of your dorms, and if s/he doesn't fix it go to the next person up the chain of command until its fixed. Bob is just an antagonistic dipshit but Jim is breaking stuff, DON'T settle for this shit

Okay, in my opinion, he definitely needs to be reported if he's trying to hack into your computer to find the video. That's got to be a violation of student code (I'm at college right now, myself, so sorry if I sound kinda technical to anyone), and it's definitely a violation of personal security.

It's absolutely an attempted invasion of your privacy. He may think he's trying to be funny, but he's getting himself into more trouble than he thinks. Honestly, if I were him (and thank God I'm not) this video sounds like more trouble than it's worth, and I'd just drop it. Like I said, if I was in your position, I'd report Bob for trying to hack your computer; but ultimately, that decision is yours to make. I'd never put up with crap like that. You're being dragged into a situation that you initially had absolutely nothing to do with.

My first thought was of him furiously stabbing at your mashed potatoes with a fork as you sit down to dinner.

Seriously tho, "Jim" needs to grow the fuck up and start going to anger management, it sounds like he went fuckin' psycho.

Acutally, scratch my last post, this guy's got it exactly right. You need to be proactive and report this immediately.

That would have been incredible considering I had chilli...No I had a fork sticking in it, he hit the fork, whatever was on the fork landed on the floor, asked him to clean it up, Jim fumes away. Shame too, that piece on the fork had the juiciest piece of pepper I was looking forward to...may it rest in peace T_T

I'd just keep searching my phone for the video and delete it upon finding it, I'd also get my door fixed and give my roomate the bill for it, if he refuses to pay it I'd just boot his arse out of the apartment.

Harsh, but if someones going to go around causing structural damage in my apartment they won't be living there anymore.
