allow me this (steps off soapbox)
some games need turn based combat, and as long as the turn based combat is good that is just fine, but too many games seem to think that this gives them the right to have truly terrible turn based combat. please note that Persona is mentioned here for its great storytelling.
I think I should apologize here as I generalized a bit to much in my initial post my beef is not really with turn based RPGs, but instead with games such as Oblivion and the aforementioned Fable that feel that the RPG title is a free pass to have slow, clunky combat, and with games like bayoneta that think near perfect combat(I believe anyway) allows for a lack of depth outside the fight.
(steps back on soapbox) if you didn't fix fables combat by the third one I'm gonna be very cross with you Peter!
