NWN is best played by avoiding the main campaign and playing in a coop format with a DM running a custom game though - it is less game and more tabletop pen'n'paper platform and toolset.

Or look up the Adam Miller NWN mods. The Shadowlords, Dreamcatcher, Demon campaigns may be close to the best story based mods ever.
