Right so I'm off school this week and all my friends have pissed off around the globe, basically I need an RPG to tear into.

I've played all the obvious ones (Oblivion, Fallout, Dragon age) so maybe somthing obscure and preferably western. Cost isnt really important but obviously cheap is good. Cheers

Planescape Torment. The combat isn't so great but the story is one of the best things ever written in video games.

Yes. This. There's nothing to say about it that hasn't been said already, except that the characters are similarly incredible. Why aren't you playing it yet?

Er, the Witcher 2? And what Platform are you on?

EDIT: Does Sanitarium also count? Or is that more of an adventure game?

Sorry I'll add more information: I have a PC that can run anything and a PS3. I dont mind what genre of RPG as long as it isnt a JPRG, graphics arnt super inportant but I want to be able to tell what I'm looking at.

Gothic 1 or 2. That game is wonderful, but also hard. Even a single wolf can easily tear you apart. Gothic is kind of "realistic" RPG, so if you want little bit of challenge, I say check it out.

The Divine Divinity series...Beyond Divinity wasn't as great but it was still an amusing experience.

How obscure are we talking about? Did you play the classics (Arcanum, Vampire, BG, Icewind, Planescape) or not?

I'm not really in the mood for the classics, I was looking for lesser known ones from the past few years or so.

I second this and also check out the second one they are both good by themselves but add mod's and they become 2 of the best game's I have ever played. Also if you want something short and sweet check out Jade empire. It is a asian inspired RPG by the same company but not a JRPG in any sense. You can get it cheap for the pc, it's not that long but it's long enough to be fun without outstaying it's welcome or decending into time wasting.

I'd suggest Mount & Blade: Warband. It isn't really a typical RPG, but I've had a lot of fun with it.

Risen, Gothic IV, Divinity 2, Two Worlds 2, Alpha Protocol, The Witcher are the ones coming to my mind. Of older games, I can recommend Fallout 1, 2 and Planescape Torment. These are probably the best RPGs so far.

God damn, all my main ideas are out. No-one ever looks for an awesome roguelike to play.

I'll go with Baldur's gate 1 and 2 if you haven't already played them, Planescape: Torment (again if you haven't played it), or maybe one of the Gothic series which I hear is pretty good?

RPG, I got excited there and thought you were after a Rocket Propelled Grenade....Anyhow
You should try old school Baldur's gate 2, my No.1 game. Its like Dragon Age but no where near as good graphics. Same depth though! I would suggest a Duel Nun-chuck Wielding Lumberjack as a Character to play. (See Unforgotten-realms)
