Most RPGs these days seem to be set in either the archetype sci-fi or fantasy world. What are some less, or possibly never, used settings you'd like to see?

Personally I'd love for more RPGs to take place in a more urban setting, á la Earthbound.

Modern day. Why does everything have to be really shitty or really great, we're at a pretty decent balance here and it won't be hard to get inspiration for locations.

An urban setting? Hmmmm,....I wish there was some way you could import a map of your city into a rpg and play it in your town...but anyways- I don't see a lot of prairie RPGs

Under the sea?
I'd like to see in an old Arabic setting. It could draw heavily from 1001 Nights. I know games have done this or at least approached it, but I can't think of an RPG that has.

mm i'd love to see an RPG use a heaven and hell or light and dark atmosphere, where you can flip between either world at any given point, sometimes to continue on in the story or dungeon you would have to flip worlds (they are generally the same but one is based off of evil/dark morals and vise versa for the other, so the dark world is usually a firey red with spikey buildings and shit and everyone is generally evil to their counterpart ) and depending on your morals you spend more time/get more quests from the world that reflects you.

I think we need more games that have no setting. The setting of a game both defines and limits it somewhat. We need more Mario-esque games where there are absolutely no expectations on the producer, and therefore no limits on what they can reasonably create.

Underwater? I can't remember any RPG underwater. I'm sure there are but not that many.
BioShock? That certainly tries to be an RPG. Though, that might not be what you mean by underwater...

The Arctic. I haven't seen many RPGs set in an Arctic Environment, and I would love the Thrill of trying to Survive in the Tundra in the Cold-War Era with a Winterized AK-47, wearing stolen Russian Military Gear while fending off bears, trying to find Food, Warmth and Shelters, while also trying to evade the wrath of the Soviet Military whose base I decided to raid.

As a toilet paper roll, trying to fend yourself from the menacing hand of the human, as he rips you apart, bit by bit.

Planescape, it's only really been used once, in the Torment game, IMO it's an awesome setting, even if it's still "only" a fantasy world.
