A medieval world with many ruins of modern civilization, especially huge cities and other wonders. And of course, NieR does that quite well. I know, I never shut up about it.

Cyberpunk and steampunk would also really be nice if it was used more, thankfully Atlus is making a steampunk RPG for the DS.

Hm...how about a cyberpunk setting on a spaceship. The crew has gone completely insane, weird mutations and so forth, and escaped biological experiments. Not only that, but the player will learn more about the crew's lives via their journals. Oh, and the enemy should be an AI trying to contain the mutant/batshit crew members, only it is not the real enemy. If only there were a really famous game like that, one which everyone ought to have played...
(yes, make more of them, please!)
Yes, please.

Wasn't Dead Space supposed to be the third one? I mean, before EA decided to go all "Clive Barker directs 'Alien'"?

I'd be happy if they re-release the second one with modern graphics, no changes to layout or gameplay.

EA, had over the rights to a company that can do some good, don't just sit on it.
I'm surprised you guys never heard of System Shock (the predecessor to BioShock), where a sentient computer (named Shodan I think) kills everyone on the ship and re-uses the flesh to play god and the hacker who constructed it has to kill it.
Please tell me you are being funny.

By "I'd be happy if they re-release the *second* one with modern graphics, no changes to layout or gameplay" I was referring to System Shock 2... and thethingthatlurks was being clever. All that understatement may be confusing to some people.

I still think you're being funny.

Lets see I don't think the Paleolithic, the Mesolithic and the Neolithic are yet be explored by Rpgs (Monster hunter does not count!) there is also the Bronze age to consider, the Iron Age which is still fresh to a degree, and the Dark Ages which is begining to get crowded game setting wise.

I would love to see a Harry Potter themed RPG, where you are a Hogwarts student and you progress through your life, basically...

Might not have been what you meant by 'settings', but I figured I'd go with it:)
There's a game... Sorta. On BYOND, if you've heard of it, haven't really played it much and it's not like its a proper (or should I say official? Don't know what word to use) game, but just letting you know there's something out there.

Me, I'd like to see an X-men game in the same kinda theme as you.

I'd love more Cyberpunk RPGs. It's a shame there's so few of them especially when they lend themselves so well to RPG elements (being able to upgrade yourself by buying/finding/stealing/etc. upgrades and all).

I mean, shit, a proper Shadowrun game would be amazing (even if Shadowrun incorporates a lot of fantasy into it's Cyberpunk). The character options alone would be insane.

The Arctic. I haven't seen many RPGs set in an Arctic Environment, and I would love the Thrill of trying to Survive in the Tundra in the Cold-War Era with a Winterized AK-47, wearing stolen Russian Military Gear while fending off bears, trying to find Food, Warmth and Shelters, while also trying to evade the wrath of the Soviet Military whose base I decided to raid.
That sounds quite awesome, perhaps someone could do a STALKER mod about it?

Modern day setting would be cool...you know what needs to become RPG standard?

Real time like in Pokemon Gold and Silver...every console has an internal clock, why has this not been done yet for christs sakes

The mobile phone thing would be cool too

Also, you can now set it in a city that is a near complete copy of an existing city, say gameplay like Fallout 3/NV, with a mobile phone, radio, real time night and day in the city of London in modern times...I'd play that, and so would many people.

All this is terribly possible...I've even thought the idea of including real time weather would be awesome, I mean, the Wii has a weather channel, how difficult is it to link that to a game?

You know...I just realized something. All these suggestions, and no one's mentioned this:

An RPG that takes place in the Discworld universe.

Modern day. Why does everything have to be really shitty or really great, we're at a pretty decent balance here and it won't be hard to get inspiration for locations.
Yes. Agreed. I have wanted this for a long time - why has no one taken it up?

Setting is only one of two of the main aspects of that RPG that really changes things up // The other being whether or not you are playing a Hero or Villain character // From my own personal experience playing a Villain opens up a whole new world

The example I can give you is I was playing an Aberrant RPG, set in this world, where we got to play Heroes as well as each other Nemesis. Switching from one character to the other was like switching to a totally different game. The rules changed. How we interacted with NPCs changed and the world, to a larger extent, change.

But setting is also one of the reasons I don't play D&D as most GM's cant come up with a world that is not just like every other D& fantasy world that you have played before.

At the moment my favorite setting is the Warhammer 40K universe

Do you know what I would love. An FPSRPG set in a sprawling urban city. There has been a zombie invasion (who doesn't love zombies) and you are a surivior. Your goal is to survive. That includes finding thing like food and water, while getting weapons, and even companions. I would also want current-period guns, and guns that would be more common in real life, to be more common in the game e.g. handguns more common than high powered rifles.

Another aspect would be your shelter. You would be able to upgrade your shelter for night by collecting resources to build it up, or if you find a building that you would think would make a good shelter, you can make that your home.

I see several problems with my dream game though. For it to be fully immersive you would have to design an interior for every building in a massive city. This would take forever. And I don't think any studio is up for this.

Another problem is all the zombies. Either they will all have to have incredibly dumb AI for it to be able to run well, or there aren't many in the city. As this is an urban city there would be plenty of zombies so that wouldn't be possible.

*takes breath*

I guess I'll have to wait a long time for a game like that.
I don't see the problem with dumb AI with hordes of zombies as long as there's further exploration of the horde mentality. You know how in Torment when the Cranium Rats bunched together they could cast spells? Well, how about when a group of zombies reaches a certain size they call (as the single zombies do to attract more) which could introduce a kind of telepathy to them.

Just imagine that as an MMO in a full city. Thousands of players, millions of zombies, very finite resources. Player-based factions that control portions of the city would emerge without the games masters ever having to lift a finger. Quests like delivering the mail, protecting caravans of traders who move in real time along highways, dangers from zombies, animals and other humans...*splooge*

Well I believe there's a Discworld MUD, but I would love to see a Console RPG of Discworld. So much to explore, so much to be, so many choices, so many people. It would just be FUCKING EPIC!

Agreed...hence the suggestion. Actually, if someone were to make an MMO of Discworld...

The thing with RPG's is they need to be interesting. Typically it's more interesting to play a game in a setting we don't see every day - Fantasy and Sci-Fi are perfect.

Or if only some competent developer tried their hand at either of the Changeling IP's.

I must admit I would probably sell my soul to make this happen.

OOH! I have an idea! How about a Monty Python based RPG?

Players can be one of many classes, including Gumby, Knight of Ni, Pepperpot, or Spanish Inquisitioner. Quests can range from trying to find the fish to trying to pass by an area that can only be passed if you do a very silly walk. Be careful though, the local law enforcement will only listen to you if you speak in a very silly voice and you may face various creatures from the dreaded Vorpal Rabbit to a Giant Electric Penguin.
