My number 1 recommendation, if you haven't played it already, would have to be Final Fantasy XII. You'll be busy for at least the better part of a year if you go for 100% completion of that one.

Other than that, Okami is an absolute must - play. Open world, lots to do, and the graphics and gameplay are refreshingly different from any other game available.

It would be very helpful to know what you've already played.

The PS2 Shin Megami Tensei games, Persona 3/4, Digital Devil Saga etc., would work there are plenty of sidequests and New game+. If you're not fluent in Japaneses and don't want to import Symphonia go for Tales of Legendia or Abyss, the ex-new game offers good replayability and the story's not bad either.

You really need to add "on the PS2" to the thread title...

Anyway, I think Deus Ex got a PS2 or PSX port, I've no idea how faithful it was though.

You could, if it can play it, import Tales of Symphonia. You'll have no idea where to go or what they are talking about lenghening an already long game with insane replay value.
What about Tales of the Abyss? It's along the same lines as Symphonia (as they were both made the Namco Tales department), but I happened to like Abyss better. Of course, it may have been hastily brought out, as I have seen multiple glitches in the game (nothing affecting gameplay, though). As an example, I've seen a "bat" group of enemies with a golem character model as it's representative, and it was floating, too.

One PS2 RPG that I always find myself going back to is Dragon Quest: The Journey Of The Cursed King, really long game, but never gets old to me. There's loads to do on top of the main story such as the monster battles, casino games, collectable items and the Dragovian Trials, where you get to fight a series of challenging bosses to test your skills. Spent SO much time on that game and will, no doubt, spend much more =D

How has no-one suggested Dark Alliance 2?!
Brilliant game, lots of replayability, tons of customization, a must buy if you like dungeon-crawlers :)

That is one amazing game right there.

Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic (1&2) and Legend of Mana have lots of replay value.

Im a little ashamed to say this but Final Fantasy X-2. It has a ton of side quests, a new game+ and this ridiculously long and hard section you can do that makes the final boss look like a joke. I really enjoyed the game dont know why everyone hates it (I guess cuz its all girls?). Seems like a usual JRPG to me.

It is a good game but it fails in the customization dept. You will find the same weapons, armor and acc. It is rather short. And you should play the first one first.
