What, you mean this isn't a thread about Rocket Propelled Grenades?
Rocket Propelled Grenades are actually shoulder-mounted missiles and not grenades at all.
Who woulda thunk it?
Wrong! Missiles have guidance systems, Rockets dont, Thus its a rocket! XD
Also, all the hand held anti tank weapons without guidance systems are classified as RPG's (see Bazooka) sorry, I'm a gun nut >_>

It's still not a grenade, however.

Shadow Hearts series, if you've got a PS2. It's a JRPG, but unlike Final Fantasy the fight system actually involves some kind of skill; and the series is pretty funny when it comes to storyline and the end bosses are difficult. I loved 'em.

Graphics are a bit dated and the voice acting is hilariousl bad, but overall the first two games are great fun to play.

Grandia II. I'd recommend that anytime (that is, if I'm allowed to recommend a JRPG).

If you're out for an "ordinary" RPG though, I'm afraid I can't help you...

I know they've been mentioned, but you can't really do much better than some of Bioware's work.

- KOTOR

- Mass Effect (The sequel's coming out in January, so you'll be able to jump right into it once you finish the first one.)

- Dragon Age: Origins (Playing through this one now, brutally hard in places, but an awesome game none the less.)

Final Fantasy series
Lunar series
Xenogears (Not to be confused with Xenosaga)
Suikoden series (especially Suikoden II)
Chrono series
Legend of Dragoon
Jade Empire
Mass Effect
.Hack/Sign series
Legend of Legaia
Shadow Hearts series

And obviously what else has been mentioned.

Dragon Age: Origins takes some skill when you're playing on hard or nightmare.

Kingdom Hearts (the series as a whole)
- 1 is story heavy
- Chain of Memories (and Re:CoM) is a great step away from the traditional JRPG genre...though it can get kind of grindy if you're a perfectionist
- 2 is battle heavy and (in my opinion) not as good as the first one
- 358/2 Days is very fun and revisits the CoM concepts in a much the same way FFXII revisited the FFX Sphere Grid. If you didn't like that transition, you probably won't like this one either.
- I haven't played Birth by Sleep, but I've heard it's bad. So I don't recommend it.

Final Fantasy
- My personal favorite is FFV, followed closely by FFXII. It is occasionally a toss-up which one I prefer.

Disgaea
- If you have a PS2, find these games and play them. Now. It's EPIC. There are 2 main entries, a port of the first to the PSP and a PSP exclusive featuring the exploding penguins from the main entries. Play them all.

.hack//infection series
- All I know is that the first one is quite fun. I haven't been able to track down the others yet.

Prince of Persia
- Sands of Time is better than the sequels, but the second and third in that particular saga are fairly good too.

The Elder Scrolls
- Morrowind is infinitely better than Oblivion. Just trust me on this one, you'll enjoy it a lot more, even though the graphics aren't all that good. *wishes he had patch for improved graphics*

Neverwinter Nights
- Fairly good, very D&D-ish though.

Fable
- Play this. I know, it's not the best game ever, but it's amusing enough in it's own way and can keep you occupied after your seventeenth ragequit on Disgaea...before you go back, anyway.

I highly recommend the new BioWare game, Dragon Age: Origins. If you're looking for a tactical game, definitely give it a try. Especially on higher difficulties, it can take a lot of thinking and strategy to make it through the battles. Also, you may be interested in the games DA:O was inspired by: the Baldur's Gate series. They're still available for the PC, and even though they're about 10 years old, you'll find quite an active modding community still around. I consider BG2 to be the best game ever made, so that should say how highly I think of this title.

i've been trying to find a fun rpg that actually takes time and skill to beat it... but i haven't found any success anyone want to refer me to some good ones?
Try Pathfinder, D&D 1E-4E, or Warhammer Fantasy/40k.

:)
