Yeah, that same thing happened to my friend. He was like level 3 or 4, going to the Super-Super Mart. When he got there, he saw a few wastelanders waiting outside as he went in the store. When he came back out, the wastelanders were dead. He thought it was weird, and then turned the corner to see a Deathclaw. He killed it, using basically all of his ammo.

I'm lucky. I killed one Deathclaw early in the game before it noticed me, and then didn't have to fight one again until I was level 15.
Ah, Fallout 3's random encounters... always ready to fuck you over when you least expect it!

Closing my first oblivion gate in well oblivion. I freaked out because I thought I had to make it back to the exit before the gate closed and jumped off the platform... to my death
Yeah, the first Oblivion gate was an Experience. The 36th on the other hand...bleh

I found a lot of the organic architecture in Morrowind awe-inspiring the first time I saw it, especially the huge shell of a long-dead creature that hosted half a city and the Telvanni cities that looked like they had been grown rather than built.

Oh, and the public transportation in that game made me stop and stare for a second

Edit: Looks like the giant bug-bus picture didn't get uploaded :(

Virmire onwards on Mass Effect. Somehow, that was just... wow. I kept playing until 4 in the morning and although I'd said I doubt I'd play a second time through, I've got yet another Shepard to rush through to Virmire with to reach the epic.

The first appearance of Sarevok in Baldur's Gate. And every appearance of Sarevok since then. And then every apparance of Irenicus... and just about any dream you ever had in either Baldur's Gate... and the chapter introductions from either Baldur's Gate...

Icewind Dale II
Where you go to meet the Goblins and end up taking on the entire fortress on your own

And the Landsmeet in Dragon Age: Origins

Haha, I did the same thing.

Mass Effect 2 is piling on these moments for me. The first 30 minutes, Tali's side mission, and others I don't want to spoil.

Zelda games have had a few of these as well. Pulling out the Master Sword in Ocarina of Time and experiencing Hyrule afterward. The first bridge fight with the Bulbin King in Twilight Princess.

Awe-inducing isn't the right word, but Sheogorath in Oblivion: The Shivering Isles was thoroughly entertaining. I never skipped his dialogue.

Listening to Vigil on Ilos in ME1.

The twist about the Collectors' race in ME2.

Fighting through Denerim during the end of Dragon Age. Also, Caridin was awesome during the Orzammar segment.

I agree with Final Fantasy, however I do believe you are choosing the wrong numbers.

This is the reason Final Fantasy VI is the best in the series.

Final Fantasy 6:
This...it speaks so much while presenting so little. One of my all time favorite intros to any game and it's just so amazing every time I see it.
