RPG's or epic stories - Where do I go next?

Witcher franchise, Dragon Age, Neverwinter Nights 1&2 are but a few that I recommend you can play.

If you want an older game but classics try Baldur's Gate 1&2 and Planescape Torment.

I just didn't enjoy the combat in the Dragon Age games, a little too click and watch what happens.

The combat in DA2 was significantly different from that in Origins, so you might actually like that one better. Yes, it's widely hated - but personally, I thought it was solidly entertaining (and it tends to be lower-priced because of the lack of popularity, so you if end up hating it at least it doesn't cost you much).

If you want story then definitely Planescape Torment. That game makes every other game look badly written. Kind of bitter sweet in that way as nothing fills the void of your first time through it.

I'd recommend you Dragon's Dogma, Kingdoms of Amalur, the Borderlands games, and Two Worlds 2(The first one sucked, but the second is alright) based on what you said you liked.
