I don't care if they include a Cooking Mama style "cook for the crew of the normandy and meet all their dietary requirements" mini-game as long as the single player game doesn't suck.

Please Bioware. Don't Dragon Age 2 this. Please.

My personal opinion? Unconcerned. Whining about the addition of multiplayer to Mass Effect would be like a Gears of War fan getting pissed off about having 'Beast Mode' in Gears 3. "Oh no, extra features! My world is ending!"
Ordinarily I'd agree with you, but adding a new multiplayer mode to a series that already has a strong multiplayer focus isn't really the same thing as adding a multiplayer mode to a series that has been exclusively single player until now.
We can't really judge how the multiplayer will effect the game until we see how their going to handle it. When Assassin Creed announced multiplay ppl was screaming apocolypes but it turned out to be a great, thought out addition to the game that didn't take away from the single player. If it's a co-op mode with a type of horde gameplay where to take on missions like ME2 Collectors bases, and such it could be a nice way to add more gameplay w/o slapping a shit ton of dlc on to it.

So I wanna mention something mostly off topic. The krogan in the picture looks alot like Wrex. Now as far as I recall my "official storyline" Wrex isn't around.

as for the topic at hand I feel this will sum up most of my feelings

ME 1 was gold, ME2 was dumbed down cater to masses BS. Sigh ME3 is sounding more and more like a dumbed down pile of shit that focuses on action and tacked on multiplayer to appease the console clowns who can't play a game alone and enjoy it thanks to their ADD. I'll be waiting at least a month after it releases to pick it up so I can hear true USER reviews, not hype.

Wow, what a load of wasted effort for a bunch of brain dead shit.

To think that there would be single player elements being cut or skipped, yet something like this gets put in at the last act.... of A STORY DRIVEN TRILOGY.

Oops. Scratch that last mark, ME2 wasnt in the least bit story driven. It was TPS driven, I mean its what I spent 90% of in game time doing after all.

I dont know, maybe Ill check the waters before buying this game, try and find reviews that havent been paid off, things like that. Unless the SP campaign is at least twice as good as ME1s (the only plot worth a shit in ME so far) Ill probably skip it.

I may not like every gameplay change they make, but at least Bethesda stick to their guns and dont whore out their games for the sake of greed. Thats why Skyrim is a definite purchase, while ME3 might be the last act of a trilogy I dont even bother to play. It had such promise with ME1 as well, but they instead of trying to be a hybrid (like something in the vein of Deus Ex HR) they said "lets try and be Gears as much as possible".

As long as it doesn't infringe on my glorious single player campaign I don't give a damn. Multi-player is welcome when it's ENTIRELY OPTIONAL. Do you hear me Bioware/EA? OPTIONAL!!
I doubt they're going to force you to play it.

I'd never suggest for a moment that the multiplayer would automatically bad; there's every chance that - like in AC:B - it will be a lot of fun to play. That said, even if it doesn't detract from the single player game, it's unlikely to add too much to it either, which is the point I was making.

Oh, it's co-op. Big deal. I guess I'll be able to sell the online pass to someone who really wants it (I don't want it. Plus, I just killed my Gold subscription).

While muliplayer for Mass Effect is an utterly retarded idea, the end result is more likely to be nobody ever using it or giving a shit about it after release than the total ruination of the series.

BioWare is building a résumé of not exactly understanding the differences between single- and multi-player experiences. They excel at single-player. And they think just going that same stuff, but including a way for another player to plug in is enough to make multi-player.

The result, when these worlds collide, is multiplayer that is basically just "several single-players occupying the same screen." It's just parallel individual games, rather than an integrated multiplayer experience. This doesn't work for Mass Effect, in which your character is the entire point of the game. Additionally, your companions are part of your "character"--Shepard does not exist in a vacuum (metaphorically speaking).

You can see this problem in The Old Republic, as well. How will it look for a handful of people to group up and all of them have the same wookiee companion, with the same name and everything?

BioWare: You make great single-player experiences. You excel at giving your players control over an ensemble of characters and letting them shape a story arc. You do not excel at crafting multiplayer experiences. It throws off all of the meticulous balancing you've done within the ensemble... or it just forces awkward, artificial situations like "too many wookiees."

Tacking on multiplayer to a single player series. In the third game. Of a trilogy. Sigh....
No news on whether they have a better main story than 2 yet.

I am not happy with this, but I will buy Mass Effect 3 because I want to finish the trilogy. After that, I'm done with Bioware and EA for good. It's becoming clear that Bioware no longer cares about making quality games. They're now in a business of making dumb dames for kids. And that's how every developer ruined their image.
I wouldn't mind if multiplayer was added later as DLC, but because it's not, every bone in my body says that single player will suffer in some way. Will it be shorter, easier, dumbed down, unimaginative, I don't know. But I'm afraid, I'm very afraid.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is how they go from a new sale to a used sale. Think I'm paying full price for a feature I will NEVER use and do not want? I've made that mistake before, I choose not to repeat it in the future.

So who is going to play the fully customized Shepard and who will be the mediocre side-kick coop player?

Well, honestly I always wanted to play as a Krogan main character having Shepard doing his stuff while I'm busy fighting the genophage with my four testicles, but since I find any other sort of coop gaming utterly crap I doubt that I will like the upcoming feature presented in that magazine.

Coop should ALWAYS be an option. PERIOD.

The way I see it is this... If you don't like COOP, then you can simply NOT PLAY IT.

But what option is there for people who enjoy playing with their buddies, who might have different builds, skill sets, gear.. etc?

Especially if the game includes plenty of random side quests and missions?

If Skyrim has coop it just sweetens the game.. being able to run around and explore a wide open amazing RPG world with your best friend is the stuff best friends dream of.

To me it's like deciding to go to a bar. You can go alone, sit and drink a few beers and just enjoy the alone-y-ness of being alone.. or you can call up a few mates and kick around with a few brews taking the piss or whatever.

Key is: OPTIONS. We should encourage their inclusion, not try to restrict it.

I'm of the opinion that COOP and MULTIPLAYER shouldn't even be newsworthy items anymore... we're at the point in gaming where they should just be AUTOMATICALLY designed in whenever reasonably possible without second thought. It annoys me that developers still haven't caught on to that.

i dont want to play with a friend... i want toe end my SOLO game. is nothing safe from co op.

Why is multi player bad? it means they've spent time/money on this that could have beenput into polishing the solo game. It could be more content, it could be spent increasing the replay value. It could have improved the cinematics. But no your right dead space multi-player is the way forward. nice.

Well, not -all- games need coop, but im 100% with you there. there should be way more cooperative games. I was thinking the same thing about Oblivion (still apply to Skyrim).. alone Oblivion is cool initially but it gets stale and boring quickly. But if we could play with a friend it would be pure fun/awesome. I wished for the same thing for the STALKER games.
So many games could benefit from that gameplay perk.

So.. yeah. More COOP is good. More options is good.

On topic of ME2 - If there is Coop play in the campaign mode rather than a few coop side-missions or the usual online competitive stuff, i will be interested. Otherwise, meh.
