You know what would be a better thing to do instead of this god-awful-idea-certain-to-direct-summon-hate-mail-from-hell-itself? You wanna release a tantalizing rumor? 'You will once more have the ability to pick your character's race and you will actually be able to make decisions that affect the story' So, in other words, we cross out the most glaring miss-steps (in my opinion) of DA2 while keeping it's innovations and go on from there. Not everything needs to be made to suit everyone: the people who buy the most products have always been the fans anyway!

If it is absolutely separate mode, which will not have an impact on the main story, then, as long as singleplayer is great, I don't care.

This is completely expected news since the announcement of Mass Effects multiplayer. I've got no interest in playing the games multiplayer, but I'm not opposed to it's presence. The success or failure of Mass Effects 3 multliplayer will go a long way of shaping my opinion of it in DA3.

God dammit EA. Not everything needs fucking multiplayer.

Skyirm proved you don't need multiplayer. At all. So stop putting it where it doesn't fucking belong just so you can put an online pass on the thing.

Assuming this is true, of course. I wouldn't be surprised if it is.
If it is true, I reckon its BioWare. They've gone off their nut recently and, to be honest, EA seem to know to leave their big developers alone for the most part. DICE seem to pretty much get their own way, for example.
Probably both, actually. Bioware since they seem to be going a bit mad lately. EA because they think single-player only games are finished [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-12-08-ea-single-player-only-games-finished]. And that games will all have some sort of multiplayer component. Or all will need one to do well in the industry.

Which, again, Skyrim proves that false since people seem more than willing to play a game with no connection to the online space at all. But whatever.

Ya im not buying it. Online co-op I could see but not a pvp arena.
Co-op takes much more time and it hasto be done by the main team, arena pvp however can be outsourced on the cheap and tacked on later, if anything that would be the simple first step.

And I really can't see a reason why Bioware wouldn't do it as they said long ago it was time to move out of the RPG waters.

Fucking... Why does everything need multiplayer? I wanna play alone damnit! Origins really was the end of an age, it seems. Fare thee well, strong narrative driven RPG's that kick your ass at every turn...
Because if you don't have online multiplayer, you can't slap an Online Pass on the game to gouge ten bucks out of people who buy it used.

God dammit Bioware and EA! Not every game needs multiplayer! This is especially true for RPGs.
I'm not surprised to hear this rumor, and I probably wouldn't be surprised to hear that it's true, I most likely wouldn't bother with the multiplayer aspect and I'm not really all that worked up about it.

But still, lengthy singleplayer RPGs can and should easily stand on their own merits.

Bioware are really going this multiplayer route. I expect TOR to simply be the first MMO of their series. DA and ME will most likely follow.

Honestly I was disappointed in both DA:O and ME2, I was expecting KOTOR or NWN level customization and I just didn't feel like there was much progression, the tech trees felt lacking.

Well obviously this just means it is ruined forever and has no hope of ever being fun to play in any way. The PvP sounds pretty lame and would play probably a lot like World of Warcraft PvP but the PvE could actually be pretty fun.

Pretty early to start blaming a rumor on the reason why the single player aspect of the game is ruined. Something that holds no weight in the first place.

Yep. That's pretty much it.

They should make it a spin-off of DAII, then they can call it Dragon Age Two Too.

I'm not sure which would make me sadder: if this "Thou shalt have multiplayer" message is from on high at EA that Bioware just has to agree with like it's their own idea, or if Bioware really has just lost its marbles and is getting set to become another generic shooter/action game developer.

I guess I'm hoping...mind control from space aliens? That are getting ready to leave Earth space by December 1st 2011, after which Bioware will announce that adding multiplayer to Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 3 was all an elaborate hoax?

Yeah. Probably whoever's idea this is just cares more about money than making games their fans want.

It's just a rumor.

OT:

Oh look, a rumor that seems to be pretty tailor made to piss people off.

Honestly, it's most likely false.

If it's not, I'd like to see the multiplayer be like a coliseum where tough adventurers from around the continent can come together and beat the shit out of each other.

I wouldn't blame Bioware. Bioware wants to make traditional RPG's with one or two quirks just to set them apart.

We blame EA for the surge in multi-player in games that don't want or need it.
