In keeping with the calm rhetorical tone [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahmoud_Ahmadinejad_and_Israel] set by Iran's vocal leader in recent years, NCGF head Behruz Minaii told the Fars News Agency that, "The United States is governed by the Zionist Regime so Attack on Tel Aviv would make Americans angrier than a game about an attack on Washington."

Well, yeah. Modern Warfare already let the Russians invade Washington DC, what would we care if the Iranians did it?
they could save a lot of trouble by just modding themselves over the Super Mutants in Fallout 3 =P

same difference with a nuked out Washington DC area lol

I am American and I wouldn't mind playing a realistic game where I got to assassinate the president of a fantasy America.
I wouldn't either (I'm actually Australian though). The problem however would be a good context. I've heard some people (mainly on the subject of that piece of shit Homefront) suggest a game where you play a Korean or Japanese resistance fighter fighting the USA, or a game where you fight Australians, but no context given for these. And by the way, those were actual comments, but I don't remember what threads they were on (probably Homefront related ones).

For the Japanese or Korean resistance fighter idea: Why? Is Japan and South Korea taken over by the NK like in Homefront? Wouldn't the resistance be against the North Koreans then? Or is this an alternate universe where the USA is evil?

For the fighting Australians idea: Again, CONTEXT. You have any or not?! Is player character an Aussie? An American? A faceless, nameless stand in for the player like the point man? Are the Aussies bad guys? Good guys? Just taking over the world but without any indication of any ideology?

I think you can see what I'm getting at.
I see 100% what you are getting at and I couldn't agree more. The most annoying thing about Homefront was that the game was given to us with an ultra realistic expectation and it was completely ridiculous. At least in a game such as Bioshock, it gave no pretext what so ever that it was fantasy.

In response to your fighting Australia comment: In GTA3 there was a radio station where a caller called in and commented on the Australian-American war and the host makes fun of him for mentioning a war no one ever heard of or remembers. Your comment made me think of that, haha.
