OT:I'm rather indifferent on this, Smith does an alright Doctor, but if he leaves now we edge ever closer to the day the Beeb pulls a massive Deus ex machina to get past the twelve regenerations rule.
Since Tennant did a regeneration in Journeys End, doesn't that make Matt Smith the last one? I know he didn't get a knew face, but it did happen...

Of course I suppose they could
just say that since Amy brought him back he's "new" if they really wanted...
Time Lords get thirteen incarnations in total, if the one in Journey's End counts then there is one left after Smith.

That is a good point though. Personally, I think that because he didn't go the whole mile, it doesn't count as a full regeneration. That's simply my speculation on it, it was never really confirmed.

I'd be surprised (and a bit devastated) if he left after only two seasons.

But then of course this is The Sun, for crying out loud. It's all most likely a load of old cobblers.

I would be quite happy to see the back of him. David Tennant was so good as the Doctor because he brought his own style and life to it.
Matt Smith tried to do the same thing. By which I mean literally. All he ever felt like for me was some guy trying to do an impression of David Tennant's Doctor. Poorly.
Also as for the ratings, I think the script writing went a bit downhill this series.
But at least the companion is better. God I hated Catherine Tate...

Also correct me if I'm wrong but I think we get one more Doctor before they need a Deus Ex Machina.

And they haven't mentioned that rule at any point in the new Doctor Who so maybe they'll just retcon it and that rule never happened

The River Song continuity is messed up already as she knew The Doctor as David Tennant despite her only seeing him once before he regenerated.

OH I HOPE ITS TRUE!!! BRING BACK DAVID! Matt smith is one creepy mother fucker, I'm sure he's a good actor but I just can't stand to look at him
Oh yeah me to.

i even have this perfect senario for him to degenerate. He gets hit by the time energy and never exists, that way david can come back. (Im behind some of you so dont tell me what happens)

But really Matts not bad its just that david was incredable.
David Tennant really outstayed his welcome in my view. He was too smug, too zany and RTD's writing was lazy and insipid. Series 5 went from strength to strength and this is probably a spurious rumour. Long may Matt Smith portray the Doctor.

On an unrelated note, (possibly) awesome news about Sylvester McCoy playing Bilbo Baggins. Just watched "Battlefield" in celebration!

Normally I would be sad, but this is The Sun, so instead I'm laughing.

It would be sad to see Smith go so soon. Sure I didn't like him as much as Tennant, but he's still good. Well at least in the first half or so of his time as the Doctor. After that it started going downhill... but still. Smith is good.

The Ratings went down because they had to compete with Wimbledon, the World Cup, and really good weather.

Since it's from the Sun I'm reeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally skeptical, but if it is true, (which hopefully it isn't; this is the ssam sort of paper as the one that said that said Robert Pattinson was trying to get the role of Peter Parker) I'll be sad to see him go so early.

I highly doubt this is true. I've heard few bad things about Matt Smith's run that isn't superficial, like "He's ugly, so he sucks" or "he's too young". After seeing most of the episodes (live in America, so I still haven't seen the finale), I think he is as good as David Tennant in his own way.

Oh come on, please, we already went through the traumatizing departure of Tennant as the Doctor don't make us go through one with Smith just yet! It's too soon dammit, too soon!!

I mean come on, you have no soul if this doesn't make you at least want to shed a tear.

All too true. I liked Tennant, and I was just getting into Smith. :'( Too soon indeed.

Dear sweet lord FINALLY!

I'm sorry Smith fans, but while you could say that the bad writing of the series and the vast changes to the DW staff this season had a vast impact on the, well, 'feel' of the season... it certainly didn't help that they cast Smith as the Doctor despite how OTT he is and such.

The only problem with this change is that it means that now we've lost 3 Doctors in 6 Seasons (assuming he is indeed doing a second one... hopefully with more Moffat action!) which puts us onto number 13 when he finally kicks the bucket. So, who's in the running for DW 13? How will they deal with the final death? How possible would it be to retcon 7(+) years of a show?

Yeah, but it's The Sun so i'm gonna hold out for a proper announcement for this
Same here.
Although if he regenerated then the doctor would only have 1 more regeneration (12 regenerations before Time Lords die die).
I still miss Tennant :'(

What, already? D:

Oh cmon, even Christopher Eccelston lasted longer than that!

I like the new doctor, don't let him go already!

I take comfort from the fact that its the totally unreliable Sun starting the rumour...

I always found this part very strange

Isn't there a MASSIVE PLOT HOLE in the last episode, how did he get out of pandorica's box the very first time and why isn't there a dead lock seal on it so the sonic dosn't work. Itn't the pandorica supposed to be the ultimate prison with loads of security devices on it.

ERm...Chris Eccleston only lasted for one season. Eccleston was 2005 only, Tennant was 2005-2009 (2010 if you count the specials) and Smith will be at least 2010-2011.

LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!

Hope he doesn't leave, I think he's brilliant. Plus it was nice that after five series we finally got a happy ending in the Big Bang, with no major cast changes at the end. I am a stickler for stability, it must be said.

But as others have pointed out, This is The Sun, so I'll be taking this with a Dump Truck full of salt. Then again, they were right about Rose months before the BBC announced her departure...

You should join Gallifreybase, There's been tons of threads arguing about that. My favourite explainations are

a) Predestination Paradox
b)Neural relay built into the Sonic (Like in Forest of the Dead) has a bit of Doctor DNA needed to open the Pandorica or
c)Pandorica was closed, not locked whe the Doctor was let out.

On a completely unrelated note; I have far too much spare time on my hands!
