I really, really hope they realize that the 360 is considered the "Hardcore Gamer" console, just like the Wii is considered the casual console. It's the one that people use for competitive online games if given the choice (multiplatform games and such). The last thing people want is for the new Xbox to be an HD version of the Wii, with crappy... everything.

hmmm...

Project Natal being next generation console released by Microsoft? Possible.

Being released 2010? Highly unlikely. Reps from MS keep reiterating that they completely intend to have the Xbox 360 continue out to a full 10 year cycle, though I would be more expecting of an 8 year lifespan for the 360 before they feel the need to release new hardware.

If it is just an upgraded 360, then I can easily see it coming out by 2010 though, as the current models STILL suffer through RROD. I've only had one go bad, and that took 2 1/2 years for it to start, but it still happened. A new take on the same, or slightly improved, hardware would be very beneficial to MS if it eliminates the RROD.

Please for the love of God let this be true. The current gen IMO is already dated graphically and new control inputs would be welcome on top of extra power.

I hope not. I don't want to buy a new console.
Same, I have put so much time into my xbox/gamerscore/dowloads. I have spent a lot of money on it and I really don't want another console out so soon.

I just thought of something for project natal. What happens if your playing a game and a bee flies by and lads on you? Now your a conundrum.
Just as I have been saying, full-body motion cams suffer when something else moving enters the view area (like a dog, or a little sister) that will undoubtly throw-off the system and cause major problems.
Natal will fail for that reason, among others.

So wait, people are surprised that 4 years after a console another one comes out? Get used to it.

I can't wait for this to be honest.

It will be just like the previous release of their console. If I'm not mistaken, they'll release it early, it will have horrible bugs, they'll try and put out a warranty to validate it, they'll lose millions if not billions fixing all the bugged models, and yet people will still defend it to the death with a degree of fanboying and flaming never before seen.

But I must be getting ahead of myself. I'm sure they wouldn't repeat that mistake.....

I'm so creeped out by Project Natal it's not even funny. The whole thing's very Skynet to me.

On topic, is it console upgrade time already? Man, time flies.
Four years seems to be the average for Microsoft.

Like I said to the last guy who said something similar, there is no hardcore or casual console, it's just a console. If you play 20 hours of cooking mama a day, your a 'hardcore' gamer in a sense.

Plus I don't think many people read the article, cause they didn't really say they were going to make it a ultra powerful successor to the 360, but a slightly beefier version with the Natal as the main point of interest.

Mainstream? Eh...that worries me.

ps. Did none of you actually read the article? The article says it would not really be a new generation, but an upgraded 360.
So there is SOME hope for Mircosoft treating the 360 like Sony treats PS2.

I think the difference being that the PS2's lifeless corpse is being dragged about for those extra sales. The 360 is hardly a corpse just yet, methinks it still has much more life left in it.

NO NO NO NO NO.

It's been 4 years since the Xbox 360 was released. Can't it wait till 2012 or something?
Hahaha, read that again as a paranoid conspiracy theorist.

or if ya too lazy just read my interpretation of what you said.
2012 is when they say the worlds going to end, or as we know it. So maybe this is where the PS4 will have AI inbuilt (to compete) which then goes rampant skynet style and declares war on the human race and tries to bomb us out. You might not get any time to enjoy the 'next gen' anyways.
But hey, thats just a little exaggeration of what would happen, it would be hilarious if it did.

Wouldn't be surprised if it does play out like this article says. Aside from devs saying they've maxed the 360's potential, the console has had some serious hardware issues. A new revision of the 360 with better performance (yay less mass effect elevator time!) and better potential for new games over the next couple years would be great IMO.

edit: Oh yeah, and with the distribution of full games on XBL they could slam a massive hard drive in the thing and forego the DVD drive in favor of Blue Ray for movie playback and potentially as a new game format.

As long as there isn't any games that are exclusively for it, then I don't see a problem with it.

I bet a lot of people didn't read it. Its not a BRAND NEW console. Its just a slightly better then the 360, which has project natal built in(Or maybe ship with...Idk) Just think like this.

The 360 we have now, is Xbox 360 1.0
This brand new one is like Xbox 360 2.0

Why would they announce Natal and have it running on a 360 if it was a feature they intend to integrate only into the next gen? Nope, that's a ridiculous assertion to make. XBox3 in 2010 rumours have been circulating forever, this is just another one to throw on the pile. 2012 maybe, but not next year.

Yeah Draw distance(especially), frame rates, and some level of detail. I guess game preformance would be a better line than dated graphics.

They are making far too much of a jump in terms of graphical power. The 360 is just about breaking even, and the PS3 is making a loss on each console. If these problems (frame rate, draw distance) are glaring, then they are focusing too much on graphical output and should take a step back. Fulfilling all of the criteria above on a home console would be too costly.

...Except now they can't. The populace gamers are far too accustomed to graphical output of the highest order. I've seen a forum thread (not on here) that says Prototype has bad graphics, and I'm sorry but that's bullshit. Prototype doesn't look like Crysis, but it doesn't by any means look bad.

It would be odd if it didn't. Chances are they will add a wealth of games that are exclusive for it.

Whatever happened to the 360 being WAY better than the PS3, fanboys? I guess Microsoft has realized the truth, now we just have to wait for you.

Project Natal and Sony's equivalent are also rather pointless...Neither Sony nor Microsoft needs to use motion controls in order to beat Nintendo out of sales, so why bother?

Also, if Natal stands for something, please tell me. Otherwise, its a stupid name.
