Ironically, I don't play games on my PC because I need to not murder the hardware because I do use graphic/video editors on it for work. And adding a second PC specifically to play games would less cost-effective then a console (obviously that slides somewhat at the tail end of a console gen, sometimes).Specter Von Baren said:...... This is a terrible argument. The game libraries are basically the same now with Kickstarted PC games finding their way onto consoles to where there's probably more interesting console exclusives than PC exclusives at this point. Hell, the most interesting games nowadays don't even need either because board games are in a golden age right now with far more interesting gameplay than the standard killing shit that video games keep peddling.
If they're doing that too, then yeah, pretty much. I'll be honest I don't follow any console news anymore. Think I'm at the stage where I doubt I'll ever like one enough again to get it.Specter Von Baren said:Like how X-box and Playstation did just last year?Squilookle said:With each new Nintendo console there seems less and less reason to buy it if they're just gonna render it obsolete by the next incremental version releasing in the next 2 years or so. Oh noes, you can't play like 5 games on Xbone without a kinect. So?Phoenixmgs said:1) Uhh... The Switch isn't even 2 years old yet. Normal generations of hardware are lasting close to 10 years now.
Pretty sure you were one of the people complaining about how the Switch isn't powerful enough and how it won't get 3rd Party support being as "weak" as it is.
So when Nintendo finally does exactly what you wanted and makes a more powerful Switch to handle these "graphically intense" 3rd Party games suddenly that's a problem for you now is it?
If someone still needs/wants a desktop PC for PC stuff vs a mobile device or laptop, you can get a refurbished one for easily below $100 that will do everything 99.9% of people use PCs for. With console gaming, you actually still own your games and can sell them after your done, something PC gamers gave up. Console gaming can effectively be quite a bit cheaper and more convenient all at the same time.Specter Von Baren said:...... This is a terrible argument. Cowon [http://www.cowonglobal.com/product_wide/iAUDIO9plus/product_page_1.php] still makes MP3 players and their sound is amazing. I had a Cowon portable media player about 10 years back for daily train rides and the JetAudio BBE effects are amazing on MP3s. Now, I'm really happy with the Android JetAudio player that is nearly as good as a standalone Cowon player.Seth Carter said:Kind of like how it'd be nice if a decent mp3 player still existed outside of a *&%$ing smart phone. Because I want my phone to be a functional phone with a decent battery life, and audio (nevermind video or internet) just eats that crap up.
I'm curious where this idea that Nintendo is inundated with cash comes from.hanselthecaretaker said:It?s a bit of a wonder they didn?t just do this from the beginning. Lord knows they?re swimmming in Scrooge McDuck size vaults of money,
Because they are. A few years ago someone calculated Nintendo could run a deficit for nearly 40 years because their larders were so stuffed:Specter Von Baren said:I'm curious where this idea that Nintendo is inundated with cash comes from.
They seem a bit over-pricey. I'm all for putting decent money on the table, but 250+ for my portable music is a bit overkill (particularly when it seems overburdened with stuff like video and TV out that I'd never use it for).Phoenixmgs said:Cowon [http://www.cowonglobal.com/product_wide/iAUDIO9plus/product_page_1.php] still makes MP3 players and their sound is amazing. No one is nor should be getting a Switch for DOOM. Im not. I want it for the same reason I want ANY Nintendo console...Nintendo games.aegix drakan said:2019 is way too soon for an upgraded switch. It's just now in its second year. Nintendo would be crazy to split the install base like that this early.
2021 is believable for an upgrade, but not really any sooner than that, IMO.
Also, considering I get most of my big games on PC, I don't much care for power on the switch. Why would I play Doom on Switch when the PC has far superior Mouse and Keyboard controls for shooters?

Oh, forget that. I missed a sentence in the OP, but to be fair there was shampoo in my eye and it was causing intense discomfort and difficulty. I wish I was making this up.
New Info. This time, this info was received by the Japanese Wall Street Journal.ObsidianJones said:Now, the Wall Street Journal is Reporting on it [https://www.polygon.com/2018/10/4/17935982/new-nintendo-switch-hardware-2019]

I did completely miss that post, thankyou. The shampoo has eventually left the eye finally. Or it's gone so far in that I can no longer feel the burning pain. The news may be something after all. WSJ doesn't want my reading it, sadly, not for lack of me trying. I was trying to identify their sources.ObsidianJones said:New Info. I only have a PS4 but it was still pretty user-friendly and out-of-the-box easy to get started. Just an initial user setup, and games can be updated in the background while playing. I?ve also grown to like games being installed because like PC, it?s so convenient to just navigate to it and hit a button vs swapping discs for every game, bloated loading times, etc. The downside is loss of resale value, but discs have lost significant value. Only the classics like a sealed copy of Shadowrun on SNES or Castlevania: SotN really go for decent money now.KingsGambit said:It's a bad precedent and a real negative against consoles. The advantage they had over PCs was a static design that remained unchanged over its life. It meant developers could make a game that they knew would perform identically on the same hardware. Now both M$ and $ony have released Pro upgrades, force games to be installed on the hard drive, require large patches to play and cost many hundreds of dollars, what is the point of them vs a gaming PC anymore?
If Nintendo plan to follow the same route, it's a real negative. Fragmenting the playerbase along hardware lines so soon into their console's lifecycle is terrible. Releasing *exclusive* games ONLY for the Pro upgraded version is horrible and to be condemned. It's marketing to push units...and the fact that it's a remake of a 15+ year old game is just salt on the wound. It's bad for third part development, the customerbase who own the original hardware and a bad way of doing things.
I suspect if this turns out to be true, it's nothing to do with "upgrading" anything, but an excuse to change the Tegra chip that opened it up for CustomOSs and homebrew. There's a hardware design issue that means it cannot be patched in software and every Switch has it.
