Goddamit, Universal.
First, you mess up with the Halo film. You and Fox. For close to the same reasons.
Then, you fuck up royally with del Toro and "At The Mountains of Madness."
And now this? Look, I'm not saying that anyone wanted Doom back (despite the fact that it does hold a soft spot in my heart for its ridiculousness), but if you're gonna take a chance to re-invet a franchise, however, unwanted it may be, do it right the second time. Are you just asking to fail, Universal? You're sixth in terms of gross compared to other studios and you're making moves based on Battleship and Quija? For the same studio that gave us Back to the Future and Jurassic Park, you're really just looking for a way to fail.

You know, it saddens me. I *loved* the first DooM movie BECAUSE it was so campy. It was supposed to be a talking version of what happened to an otherwise Silent protagonist, including a Nod to the original material. I loved it so much I actually cheered at the end in the theatre, and I wasn't the only guy my age doing so!
However, I have to admit, the Uber-Nerd in me kinda squealed a little bit thinking about another epic FPS-sequence rendered in scrotum-tighteningly vivid IMAX 3D. So who knows, this could be a good thing, who's to say?

It's what happens when you monetize art. As far as I'm concerned, video games are suffering through it too. I fear I may have to throw in the towel and stop playing new games just as I've stopped watching new movies.Legion said:

As a huge fan of the original games, I for one, look forward to the fifth failed attempt to bring DooM to the big screen, and only hope this is can be as successful as the first three, and not get released. Ever.

There should be a rule that any action movie with tons of guns, killing, cursing, demons from freaking hell, ect., that are PG-13 should immediately be given the R-movie treatment on pain of death.
13 year olds should be allowed into R films just so we can have more movies made to be "R" like they were supposed to in the first place!!! And damn these bloody movie-rating stigmas; such lunacy merely restricts movies and forces sacrifices to appease a loud minority (that should be gagged).
The R rating certainly does not mean a movie will be better by any stretch, but it at least allows a greater sense of creative freedom with the subject at hand, let alone they type of movie.
I apologize for the tangent, but I can only imagine what a good Doom movie would be like if it was approached off the bat with the serious nature of, I don't know, DEMONS. FROM. HELL. Ah well, as long as "The Rock" stays the hell out of it, there will always be that positive.
