Rumor: Valves new IP leaked! Name and Concept art!

So appearently Valves new IP Stars of Barathum has been leaked!

So in this game you have the ability to command large cruisers and capital ships, and again, as mentioned above, this looks something that is very ambitious, especially considering the type of games Valve has released so far.

Interesting concept work, lot of borrowing from sea vessels. Can't say I like the designs as much as Homeworld or EVE though.

Can the Source engine really pull off a large space game?

This could be pretty cool, maybe we'll get to hear about soon, not sure when the next big game convention is.

I'll get excited when they set an official release date. Until then, there's at least a 50% chance we'll never hear about this game again.

I'll take Star Citizen instead. At least I know with that game, I'll get an offline single-player mode and a story/plot from the guy who basically created the space sim genre.

I assume Barathrum is still knee-deep in pre-development, so we won't see this for a long time.

The way the article constantly refers to it as SoB makes me suspicious. I'd like it to be true, but who knows?

Considering how many projects Valve is likely to be working on at any given time, I don't expect this leak to be 'that' much news.

Given their interesting internal structure 'devoting resources' of any amount could mean that a group of people just found the idea interesting enough to play around with more.

So a first person shooter that's not made by Valve but "recruited" by Valve that we will never also hear more of this game until 2015? Which then, would show it's first trailer and then not releasing another trailer until two years later, which shows another trailer which finally reveals it's release date...in 2019.

And while all of this is going on, more hats are released in TF2.

Are you knocking TF2 hats?

But I do agree, we want more tangible proof of new IP before being told of it.

I know everyone is bitching how you always "milk" same IPs but you don't have to be that drastic about it.Say how about a TPS first?

If this really is valve stuff, then my opinion is you can always trust valve to make great looking games. Those look like ships and characters that I might actually like to use (unlike the generic space armour most sci-fi settings seem to use at the moment).

I will now proceed to think no more on it until more information is available.

I'm hoping it has a singleplayer mode. If not I might give it a go if its f2p. Valve at least knows how to do f2p properly.

With this and Star Citizen, the new game from the guy who made Wing Commander, we can definitely say that space flight sims are coming back! Yay! :-D

P.S.: Can we make rumours that Half-Life 3 will be set in space? Using gravity gun in a zero gravity environment would be interesting...

Sigh another rumour, it would be nice to see some definative news coming from Gabe's own mouth as to WTF his dev teams are actually doing. As much as I like them even i'm starting to think of them as a virtual milliner.

I do hope they don't try to fob those not-quite-humans as anything but that: derivatives of a human base stock. If they try to say *any* of those are aliens, I'll be pretty displeased, given how human-like they do actually look.
