Honestly, I don't even want anything more powerful than the 360. Graphics need to take a backseat for a long time while devs work on more pressing matters (like AI).

You want better AI then you need faster processors AND more RAM than consoles currently offer.

So ? in a year Microsoft will probably release a new Xbox by 2013 so it really doesn't matter.
You'd be surprised how much a head start can do for you sometimes. Case in point, the 360.

So where does this leave the PS3 in terms of power?

Also its not good to trust speculation.
Probably same place as the 360. Guess we'll be seeing a PS4 and... 720? soon.

512 MB of RAM is the give-away to this being fake.

Thats INCREDIBLY low.

2GB would be low.

4GB or gtfo.
PS3 has 512MB, so does 360.

Only slightly more powerful? THE 360 IS FROM 2005, FFS.

I thought it was going to start up the "next generation"

Personally, I'm simply glad Nintendo might be the one to kick off the new generation. A bit too soon, in my opinion, but the ball was in their court ever since Kinect and MOVE went to market.

As for the performance specs of Project Cafe (I refuse to call it the Wii2 as it will apparently be a completely new console as opposed to a reiteration of the Wii), I will reserve judgment until after Nintendo releases official specs. It's pointless to praise or condemn an unreleased, no, unannounced console simply by specs that people claim to have gotten. I'll wait or the official announcement of Project Cafe, thank you very much...

Well I sure hope so. I kinda feared they'd take the success of the Wii as a hint that "we can win the market with a gimmick, let's do it again". Maybe they'll put those mountains of money to use and make a seriously competitive console that can push the boundaries of the medium without crippling itself on something as trivial as graphics and processing power.

the "sensor bar" is just IR LEDs that are spread apart so the controller can measure the distance. 3rd party sensor bars are <$5.

As long as the thing has bluetooth and power port for the bar there is nothing wrong with ninty saying you need a wii controller and sensor bar to play wii games on it.

I'm skeptical cat about touchscreen controls but if anyone can make it work its nintendo. Hopefully it isn't painfully flawed like the dreamcast memory stick/mini gameboy thingy but time will tell. Nintendo has been perfecting their craft for many years and I'm excited about this new one. Worst case scenario it will force MS and Sony to step up their game.

360 = Seven years ago

If Nintendo's latest product can't beat a console seven years old I'd wonder what they had been doing with their time.

Undoubtedly the XBox 180 will eclipse all the previous consoles, then the PS4 will go on to do the same. That's pretty much how these things work as far as I can see.

Also, why does it matter? The Wii had less power than the PS3 and 360, and still pretty much outsold them entirely.

Maybe I'm missing some technophile geek thing here but I really don't see why everyone gets so fussed over whether or not the consoles have more power, the point should be that Nintendo is and always has been a maker of consoles which get heaps of third rate shovel ware heaped onto them, and until they can fix that it won't matter how many pixels they manage to jam into their new system.

Looks very interesting. I was all set to finally go out and purchase a Wii, and now this avalanche of rumor and speculation about a brand new/updated Wii!

If this new Wii isn't set to actually debut for another year or so, I may just wait for the inevitable price drop on the current Wii in order to get my Zelda fix. ;)

Judging from their track record with hardware performance, I see no reason to believe them competent enough to produce anything that matches an Xbox 360 on any level, despite it's age.
And if it turns out to be true, then I wish anyone who gets it luck in finding something to put in it.
You mean the Wii, which happens to be the only console they made (excluding handhelds here) that didn't match up to its peers?

sounds fake and gimmicky, HD touch screen embedded into a controller, if you really had what sounds to be a 360 controller with a HD touch screen, why would you want to play mario? i think i would want to play an FPS.
You're on to something and you don't even realize it. The fact that 3rd party developers are getting such an incredibly early look at the console can only mean that there will be real FPS's on the system.

Nintendo used to be the king of the console FPS, back when they owned Rare and actually utilized the talent. I think they want that back.

If you stop and think about it these specs make a lot of sense. Consider these two points together.

1. There are 2 primary concerns in developing a new console: technical capability, and consumer accessibility. Put simply: power and price. Take a moment to think back to the launch of the 360/PS3. The PS3 had, vastly superior processing power, Blu Ray, and Sony's pedigree as top dog of the previous generation behind it. The only major selling point of the 360 was price. It was, at launch 25% cheaper than the PS3. I don't think there's really any debate over which has won the console war, the 360 has been far more successful than the playstation over their lifecycle.

2. Nintendo has been trying to revolutionize the traditional video game controller for 2 generations now, and I'm not talking about the Wiimote. Remember Final Fantasy Crystal CHronicles? Yeah, now you get it! For those of you who don't know, FF:CC was a gamecube game, whose mulitplayer mode was played not with Gamecube controllers, but with gameboys hardwired into the gamecube itself. The technology was carried over to the Wii, which allows for the DS to serve as a wireless controller for a small number of wii titles.

Nintendo obviously sees potential in this concept, they've gone to an lot of trouble over the last decade to develop the system for a paltry number of titles. THe obvious problem is the absurd barrier of entry: 4 player gaming using gameboys as controllers would cost nearly $1000. I don't believe its much of a stretch to imagination Nintendo rolling such functionality into its next consoles base feature-set. Trouble is those controllers would be very expensive, similar to the cost of including blu-ray drives in early PS3's (before the technology became standard). Nintendo knows its audience, specifically that they aren't going to buy a $400 console, so they have to sacrifice computing power to keep down costs.

If this controller rumor is even remotely true, don't be surprised when the Nintendo Gamesphere doesn't have an internal harddrive. Which essentially makes it a 360-Arcade with a hightech controller, and i think thats exactly what nintendo wants.

Few things: 1) 512 Ram for a console is sufficient. It's not really running an OS, which takes close to a gig in itself now a days (plus all the other programs running). 2) Your 360 is not less powerful than a microwave or calculator or what ever. Seriously, since when did 360 games look bad? They don't. They look fine. Could there be some improvements? Of course, but it's still powerful enough to accomplish any gameplay flare needed. Ever wonder why there's so many set pieces now a days (exploding bridges, crashing helicopters, ect.)? It's because of the hardware. I'd be happy with this Wii2 coming out and having at least a 4 year life cycle. During those 4 years, I see no real reason the other console manufacturers need an upgrade.
