It'll be Canada.

Skyrims engine involves dynamic snow, Canada was annexed in 2059. It was the site of the huge civilian suppression and could offer the most out of Skyrim's engine and Fallout universe.

New York is a stupid place to have it, we saw it in DC and Vegas (city & desert, check) and a too many bloody games have been to NYC this year and last. The only way the could cock that up more is if they turned it into a modern military shooter.
Why then Canada? I agree yah I hate these people who keep asking for city (but New Vegas didn't have much in terms of a city, nowhere near on the level of FO3 and was so much better and funner to navigate) but Canada hasn't had any mention in any previous Fallout at all aside from pre-war stuff, no mention of BoS up there either. It's probably going to be in the South or the Mid-West again, I'm leaning towards South because that would have more of a unique experience in the Fallout's and its fluff is extremely flexible seeing as there's little to it. The Mid-West though would be pretty good as well.

Personally I think they should make a FO China, but it probably won't be a numbered sequel.

I want New York partially because I live here, and also because it would definitely be a different experience. While Fallout did put a city in 3, DC is a very different place than NYC. Saying they shouldn't do NYC because they already did a city with DC is stupid and is making an extreme generalization. I would love New York. What I'm envisioning is different kinds of mutants and/or factions being in control of the different boroughs, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, the Bronx, and then Manhattan could be just a free for all area with raiders, ghouls, etc. A lot of story possibilities would be opened up from NYC because for example, as someone previously mentioned, the UN is here. DLC would be an easy one. Long Island, New Jersey, maybe an upstate New York DLC for a change of scenery. Idk I just think New York would have a lot of different possibilities and people saying they've already been to a city in Fallout so they shouldn't do New York are stupid. People have a generalization of New York as Manhattan and only Manhattan. Brooklyn is VERY different from Manhattan my friends. But oh well, whatever they come up with I'm sure I'll be happy with :)
Yeah I was thinking that the different sections of NYC could be the homes to different factions and also having upstate New York as DLC would realy be somthing especialy if they use the Capital Region or Adirondac mountains mostly because it would be neat since alot of that region is broken up between cities and rural area, and because I would love navigating the nuclear wasteland version of the area I live in.

Yeah exactly. It would be awesome in my opinion. And a lot of the time people who say it shouldn't be done in NYC because they already did a Fallout in DC which is another city, are the same people which say it should return to California... branch out a little people... I think they could easily make a great game out of New York. LA or something like that would be the rehash of the old games considering they've already done two games in California cities. I understand that's where the original story is, but why not expand that original story to the East coast or, dare I say it, create a new story line that could occupy a game or two.

I'll play it only if it doesn't have the shoddy Skyrim engine of controls, and if its not based in America. I already see too many American post-apoc games. I'd totally love to see a post apocalyptic London.

A lot of iconic fallout things are very much US only in the back story, or at least likely to be so (with the mutants largely justified by FEV, vaults, power armour, brotherhood of steel) and being based on or parodying american culture and the like being important to it. This leaves a non-US fallout seeming very unlikely and difficult to do well. At most we might see Canada or Mexico, perhaps even Cuba, but even those seem unlikely outside of DLCs (and even then it seems a bit unlikely).

Alaska makes the most sense IMO.

Snow and long periods of darkness means a very different vibe to the city and desert settings of 3 and NV. It also means they can develop completely new breeds of mutants/raiders/creatures that have grown up and adapted to that type of environment, as well as exploring towns and cities that will have been completely cut off from the outside for (potentially) generations.

Alaska has also been touched on/mentioned in previous games, so has some continuity, and could still use the same music and art style as used for the USA games with only little modification IMO.

The more I think about it, the more I feel it simply has to be Alaska in order for the game to be fresh in environments and characters again.

I would prefer to see Chicago w/ a strong Enclave presence (they do have a bunker...perhaps more) also getting around to Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel..

New York is so...cliche... NEED A DISASTER MOVIE.... NEW YORK CITY!

Ive heard some people say Dogtown AKA Denver

Wikia:
There is no real civilization present, just a series of salvager camps set up high in the skyscraper ruins, away from the endless pack of feral dogs which roam the streets below.

take some more from Van Buren....it has plenty of material.

Or....yeah...FLAMESHIELD GO GO.... remake Fallout 1... I want fresh bottles of BETHESDARUINEDFALLOUTFOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOREVER! (JK)

Seriously tho...NO DAMN NEW YORK!

Do Maine...something all Stephen King-y

I'm never buying another Bethesda game no matter what. Not after the bullshit that was skyrim. and to shut up you hardcore gamers, yes the game is massive, yes I knew what to expect from a Bethesda game, and yes I did buy it for PS3.

I doubt it's gonna be out next year, seeing how the studio that made Fallout takes at the very least two years to make a new game (I even think that it's been 3 years since Fallout 3).

So don't get your hopes up just yet.

Er, these aren't rumors, they don't even have a source. This is called "speculation"...

I hope Obsidian and Bethesda collaborate on the game, they can both do things well that the other can't. And yes, it will be buggy, and yes, I will still play the hell out of it...

I'm hoping for Nashville. For starters it's local, and it makes both strategic and tactical sense to hit it.

Still routing for outside the US, since the war was with the chinese in Fallout it would be nice to see one game set there, Beijing or Hong Kong.

It stands to be the only logical choice to me:-
Europe wont get a mention in this series,
The middle east has been done to death in shooters,
Russia has run out of men to spare after the last 3 CoD games,
Asia doesnt get mentioned that much, but could be an interesting premise,
South America would just become FarCry, dense jungles + dense glitching......no thanks,
Africa looks like its been nuked already, so it would just be Resident Evil 5 but first person.
Problem: China is so thoroughly obliterated that there isn't anything left to pick through. DC is unscathed compared to what the lore states Bejing would be like.
But isnt that the joy of apocalyptic settings? The communications are gone so everything could just be put down to sheer rumour and innuendo. China may well have not been completely flattened, but who the hell knows?

Im aware people are going to throw the book of lore at me, but im willing to bat it into the fire if it means great gameplay and an engaging plot.

Okay, here's the "fact" list that I just pulled out of my ass (but seriously, some of this stuff is real):

- It will be made by Bethesda. - I'd rather want Obsidian to make it, considering Tim Cain will be with them for a while, but I can trust Bethesda with another "spin-off" game (which doesn't interfere with the West Coast canon), that would provide resources for Obisidan to work with on the next one.

- Bethesda loses the Fallout IP rights after this game. - A very bad thing, since Interplay has been pretty shitty lately and this means Obsidian won't get to make another Fallout game.

- It's going to look GREAT. On screenshots. - The graphical jump between Oblivion and Fallout 3 was amazing, considering they did very little to the engine. Fallout 4 will most probably look better than Skyrim. But not in motion, don't forget this is Bethesda "quality" animations we're talking about here.

-It will be set in the USA. - Nothing to say about this, except FALLOUT GAMES CAN ONLY WORK IN AN AMERICAN SETTING. OTHERWISE THEY'RE NOT FALLOUT GAMES.

-It HOPEFULLY won't be made for this generation of consoles - Making ANOTHER game with the 360 as the SKU, would be ludicrous, even Skyrim should have been made for the next gen. I have nothing against this gen, except for its incredibly shitty hardware which forced New Vegas to be split in 3 parts and made Skyrim consist of separate cells instead of the whole world being one cell, which would be possible on the PC.

That shit is so old it's not funny. It was never that funny in the first place. I wish people would just shut the fuck up about it already...

OT: Anyone's guess... I'm sure everyone would love to have Fallout in their birthplace/hometown or whatever, maybe not, but Hawaii isn't really a good place to have Fallout in IMO. Too small of an area for a game like Fallout.

Probably some place like New York like the OP mentioned.

I want the next game to be set somewhere snowy, which seems likely, based on the new engine's increased capabilities for rendering snow. However, my biggest desire is for a complete change in location: set the next Fallout in China. We've only really seen the aftereffects of the apocalypse from the American perspective ? how did China fare?

Of course, that's obviously not going to happen, but I can dream.

Hmmm... If I remember correctly, New York State would be within the borders of the Commonwealth, right? That could be interesting. Anyway, I can't wait to visit the City in Fallout form. Probably random raiders in the Bronx (Sorry to any Bronxies), the Q line will finally be extended into Queens, the 5 Families of the Future will probably end up being NYC's more modern version, more fragmented version of the Brotherhood of Steel, and yes, I am implying that you get to save the world as a Mobster, and Booklyn will still be Booklyn, ya got that???? Probably Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan would be within heavily fortified borders, with Manhattan being the center of the City. And yes, Bloomberg will still be Mayor.
