I will agree, it does suck.
However, it is an excellent method of introducing people to MMOs
Sort of like "babies first", if you will.
Agreed. You have to praise it just because it keeps pre-pubescents off of 'real' mmo's. Except WoW...

I'd say Quake Live is the best free game so far. Most free games tend to suck though.

I quit RS a long time ago and I'm glad I did. Sure the game was fun and even felt very rewarding at times. I also got to lvl 90 something before quitting, but what this game lacks is players that you want to talk to which defeats the purpose of an mmorpg.

3 or 4 years ago before Runescape started advertising on miniclip it was filled with selfrespectful players who were fun to be around with and helpfull. Now it's crawling with small prepubescant shitheads who think it's cool to run around and sound like a tard.

That game will never be the same again. The weird rules and restrictions they enforced to save the game from real world trading only made it much more complicated and unintuitive. Gone are the days when you could give one of your good friends in game a gift for whatever reason. These days I'm wondering whether RS is governed by the man more or less than the real world, because it sure seems like you can't so much as hint at taking one foul step before getting pounded by the ban hammer. And there's no end to it.

In short it wont be worth your while.

I used to play was a member got to 88 then quit got bored gets old. The quests have to be the best in any MMO though. Much better then WoW.
have you even played WoW?
In WoW all quests are either

Kill x enemies
Get x items by killing 10x enemies
Go to location x and interact with a person/item but to reach it kill x enemies
Play a weird minigame that is fun for 2 minutes but it also comes down to killing x enemies but in a different way

I've played it for a year..

In Runescape you have UNIQUE quests, quality > quantity after all.

Free MMORPGS are free for a reason.

Because they are so dreadful they wouldn't sell.

I despise RuneScape.
Everything worth looking at is Member's Only. Not to mention a good 90% of the people on there haven't hit puberty, and their grammar shows it.
Well yeah...
It isn't the best free MMO
But the quests for both free and members are much, much, much, much, much better than those repetitive kill X of Y quests in WoW.

Nope.

The best free game that's browser based right now is Battlefield: Heroes.
QFT.
Though it's not browser based, you install it, and you just access it from your internet browser.

The intro video for that game reminds me of those old shows that aired on Saturday mornings.....

playing runescape for the first week without member but on high quality was good while it lasted but now I only use it from time to time to chat while dancing, also I ripped off some poor sap getting 4,000 gp for free and spent it all on new weapons and armor, at first I felt bad, but then who cares since so many people hate it.

I personally think runescape is a really fun game, amazingly in depth despite the fact that it's free. It's mostly the skill system, I love it.

I'd rather just shell out the money for WoW. I mean come on, it's only 15 dollars a month, that's not very much at all.

First of all, most if not all MMO's get repetative, you may get distracted by their pretty graphics or "interesting" quests for some time but in the end you ALWAYS stop and reflect on how much time you've wasted on that game. Still though, despite the recent updates to the game restricting trade, they made up for that with GE. which is highly convenient despite the trip it takes to get there. And the removing of PvP was in fact a shock for me, but it still doesn't make it a bad game. I have grown an attachment to my Character and despite the meaningless hours spent in the sewers of Varrock swinging a 2-H around at a giant piece of moss with a beard, it brings the same satisfaction all MMO's do when you level. The graphics actually comfort me and the gameplay is much more entertaining than WoW. Honestly I would pick RS over any MMO because of the fact that the world there is less complictated than anything else out there. plus $5 bucks a month compared to any other P2P out there. Not bad in the never ending quest to fill in that extra time. So before you get all pissy and pull out your hate and throw it on the table, just think about it from an outside perspective. Think about the game not the hype or the graphics.

Well, from what I've gathered from scanning quickly through these other posts, I've probably spent more time on it than many of these other people. The free game entertains you for a little, but once you start to grasp just how much more content is in the members version, you quickly want to upgrade. I did, and got a high leveled character (if I remember right, I stopped at 104) after about a year of on and off playing.

After all that, looking back, I can honestly say that my time as a free player was a lot more fun than the members' period, and I think I know why now. As soon as you gain something, as soon as you achieve a goal you set for yourself, you immediately desire something better. Obviously, this is normal in this sort of game, but for me, it killed the fun. The game became a never ending quest to get "the next better item", and there was never any chance to actually ENJOY what you just worked for. The economy of the game was pretty messed up as well, being entirely supported by the trade of rare and ultra expensive items. I quit when they ruined the last fun part of the game: the Wilderness. In a series of VERY stupid updates, they drained the last bit of enjoyment from the game and altered everything so much, it was nothing like the good ol' "fun" days I had had.

Long story short: It's legitimately fun for a few weeks as a free player before you've learned too much.

The problem there is that if you actually want to play the game, it's not free. You can more or less work through the entire free to play section in a couple of months, and then it's over. All new content is members only, which requires you to pay.

So no, it's definitely not the best free one out there, since the free content sucks.

I'll admit the actual game itself is not terrible, although it really has nothing to set itself apart from other MMORPGs. It also has some of the worst graphics ever seen in a MMORPG, although I suppose that's really more Java's fault than the games.
