RuneScape hate

What's with all the hate for RuneScape? Lots of people seem to hate it or act like you're an idiot if you play it. For a Java browser-based game, it kicks a lot of ass, and premium accounts are fairly inexpensive.

yes, but it's terribly boring, like WoW, and it's the "in" thing to hate WoW/grind.

It is very grindey and The community is mostly fourth graders. The writing is amusing though.

well Runescape has alot of issues with alot of plp, most of the players walk around spamming "Noob", and recently I heard about an item that actually lags the player you use it on.

I don't hate it, but it's not exactly a great game, but like ya said it's a good browser game.

Ok, well we did have a thread about random hate today. I agree that people tend to just randomly hate on stuff. Im actually getting tired of people hating on random hate...thats how bad things have got.

I agree. Speaking as a player myself, I can say that the graphics aren't that great and the gameplay stops being fun at about level thirty. The only thing that keeps you playing at all is the friends. The community, as well, is terrible, and sometimes people look at me funny for using proper grammar and spelling.

Being a high level Runescape player and World of Warcraft player (dont play either anymore) I would have to say that both of them are very fun. Yes a large portion of Runescape players are 13 year old boys but if you join the right clan as a member the game becomes a lot more fun. Same thing applies for WoW just gotta find the right guild and group of people to play with and the game becomes really really fun.

I used to play it but i realized i was playing with kids that mashed their heads against the keyboard to type so i quit.

The only thing Runescape is really good for to me is the fact that it gets kids into MMOs leading into other games like a gateway drug of sorts.

Yep, I have three friends who I can consitently follow a conversation with, and they usually boil down to "hey sup lets go kill some demons," or "dude we shud go get more ess."

I've played both on free and members servers and the community is drastically different between the two. Free is how you guys all describe it, members is a bunch of bitchy elitists who want everything their way and who literally won't talk to you if you're under level 100.

My favorite thing about the game is its sense of freedom. No other MMO seems to provide this.

No but I used to play Rune Scape before WoW. It Isn't that bad. I actually like the skill system.

Disclaimer: I have no problem with homosexuals and do not believe they have a certain manner of typing. (sorry just thought I'd throw that in there)

I loved Runescape. Played it for several years. Got pretty absorbed into it, though. After a while I figured I needed to focus on other things (namely, schoolwork) so I stopped playing. But I still think it's a good game.

And as someone already pointed out, it's a pretty impressive piece of browser-based engineering. And the writing in it was actually quite good.

It really is. An entire contiguous, non-resetting world accessible to thousands of players at once written in Java? That's a feat; I'm surprised that Jagex hasn't gotten some sort of commendation for it.

I've played Runescape. It has its better points, but it's very sub-par as far as MMOGs go. Also, when they got rid of the player-to-player trading system, they nailed the final stake into its heart.
