I played it a lot before release of Runescape 2 and it was great, but after that they made some decisions about gameplay that I didn't like. Mostly I hate the community, it sucks very very much.

I'm honestly surprised at the mostly positive responses I'm seeing.

Does nobody else think a single-player version of RuneScape (ala Elder Scrolls, just with the world of Gielinor (RuneScape)) would be pretty cool? Hm.

You're not leveling up different skills.

You're leveling up one skill, with a thousand different names and textures.

Woodcutting. Swordplay. Fishing. Mining. It is all exactly the same: Use x on y, wait thirty seconds, repeat.

This is most likely the reason my sisters won't touch a video game anymore: they know how addictive, how pointless, how utterly draining they can be on a person, in every way.

For every single one of your examples of your precious video games being art, Extra Credits, there is a counter-example of a video game doing exactly the opposite: draining any color a person has out of him or her as (s)he repeats, and repeats, and repeats.

I don't hate it. I've been playing it for 6 years, an account that's level 126 with 2083 total. Getting 99 Dungeoneering atm.

Perhaps those fictional 99% of gamers hate it because it's just so easy. :x It has a lot of people playing it because it's so accessible, it can be played on any computer that can run a game from 2000 and it's browser-based. That doesn't mean there are other, better and free MMORPGs out there.

Pokemon is an easy and fun game, DO YOU THEN HATE POKEMANZ?
But I will tell you guys why I can't stand runescape.
Alot of the people in there are pricks, alot!
The economy is crap.
I think the combat system is something that a seizured badger invented.
And I just don't like MMOs =/

One word:
Dungeoneering.

Easily the most fun skill in the game, IMHO.

And this may come as a surprise to you, but I don't play games for the grind. I think you'll find very few people do. Personally I play it for the quests, which easily beat the 'quests' of WoW any day. WoW has errands, RuneScape has true quests. Collecting X pieces of Y is never a quest. Trying to prevent the Big Bad from ascending to godhood, now THAT is a fun, 6-hour-plus-entertainment-filled, quest.

not as bad as Tibia GP PLX GP PLX SELLING GS BR? BR? GP PLX GP PLX JAJAJAJAJAJA

That game has instilled into a kid who's never met a Brazilian in his life, a dire hatred of Brazilians
The solution would be shut fucking Tibia down already... Why people still play Tibia in times likes this were we have World of Warcraft?

It isn't actually bad. It isn't good either but it isn't bad. It is like WoW for poor people.

It's a great game. I can't deny that. Hell I was playing it earlier today getting prepped for their bonus exp. weekend.

I've spent a lot of time on it. I had my quest cape fairly early because the quests were a lot of fun. The only reason I keep coming back is for the quests. While Guthix Sleeps (their first "grandmaster" quest) was fun, took forever, and the last fight was actually very challenging for a "low" combat level.

I made a great bit of money through mining (88, ugh) to help me get the items and levels for other professions so I could keep questing. But that brings me to my biggest gripe. I can deal with trolls, I can deal with bots and spammers, I don't care about people scamming (I'm *very* cautious while trading.) The leveling curve is just ridiculous, it goes from needing 10-20 thousand to needing a couple hundred thousand by the time you hit 70. A lot of quests are requiring 60-77 in skills, and I don't have the time (or patience) to sit there for 50 hours gathering materials and clicking on them over and over. I really want to finish all these quests, they sound fun and I've always enjoyed doing them in the past, but now I just can't keep going. Eventually I might get them up. But it's just too boring now.

The starting look is randomised now.
I renember that quest... I logged on and tryed to complete it but it got glitched. The glass was missing from the water tank so I was screwed over and then I just completely forgot about it.

I kind of enjoyed it, but I only dabbled a few years ago. I had a few friends who were maniacal about it, and they roped me in. A few times when they weren't on I'd just wander around a bit, fighting and exploring.

One thing stopped me from liking it:

IT'S SO BORING. I've NEVER like click-combat at the best of times, and it's especially dull when the characters just chop at each other like robots until one of them keels over.

And the grinding, my GOD the grinding!! So many hours spent chopping trees, cooking prawns and hacking at goblins in the most boring manner possible!!! And for what?! So you can get better at chopping trees, cooking prawns and hacking at goblins?! No thanks.

Plus my friend gave me some great armour and weapons early on, so there wasn't much sense of growth for me.

I made it to about level 38 or something. Haven't played with my character in months...
