[HEADING=2]Welcome to Lodestar[/HEADING]

[HEADING=3]Chapter 1: Ceremonies and Initiations[/HEADING]

A day and a half. That's how long they'd been in the air. The previous stop - The City of Vacuo - had been a nice break (at least for those who'd been on the airship since earlier stops) but since then the number of Lodestar students had shot through the roof. Hundreds of students must have boarded the ship in Vacuo, filling the ship to capacity. Admittedly, they hadn't forced everyone to share cabins yet, but those few who had personal cabins were either extremely important, rich, or lucky.

And despite her belief in her own luck, Jade was not so fortunate. Currently, her room was shared with one other woman and - apparently - every worldly possession everyone in her family history had ever owned. Jade could barely move around the tiny cramped cabin what with the dozens of matching orange boxes her cabin mate had brought aboard. Still, Jade just counted her blessings; at least she'd stopped snoring.

Well, that blessing and the fact she was headed to Lodestar as a prospective student. It was true that she'd worked like a dog at the military academy to earn top marks but even then she'd not expected somewhere as prestigious as Lodestar to accept her application. Hard work and luck had certainly paved the way for her.

As she lay thinking on her tiny bunk, her scroll began to buzz. Apparently it was time to get up. Pushing out of the bed, she quickly pulled on a set of clothes and her trademarked cloak and walked out the door. First was an early morning run, then some breakfast and getting ready for the day, then whatever the day had planned for her. Glancing at the scroll, the day apparently had a required welcome ceremony from Headmaster Barca which promised to be interesting if only because they finally got to see the Headmaster of the school.

"Busy day indeed" she muttered to herself before starting her jog.

"And now a look at local news. Tradegy strikes the Institute of Applied Dust Research in Vacuo City pro..."

The figure on the bed stirs, moving in great, lumbering strokes before forcing itself upright. Bright blue eyes, narrowed in exhaustion, come to rest on the source of the noise - a metal tube lying next to his pillow, stark white and just large enough to fit in his hand. A great, groaning sigh escapes his lips as Mathias Steele forces himself to try and take stock of his surroundings. Still dizzy with sleep, he gives his cheek a gentle slap, trying in vain to accelerate his sluggish morning ritual.

Casting a dazed glance about his surroundings reveals a fairly bare-bones cabin - a bed, nightstand, and a small closet in the corner to store his things. The only true 'luxuries' afforded was a window in the opposite wall, leaking in sunlight from the rising sun, and a small mirror on the door.

"...one of its most promising researchers, Maximillian Gilden, was reported missing earlier this morning. When asked if there was any suspected connection to the earlier spate of disappearances, Vacuo City's chief of police had this to sa-" With another lumbering jerk, Mathias picks up his Scroll and presses a button in its end, silencing it. A great, boorish yawn escapes his mouth before he turns to throw off the sheets and step out of bed. No point in dawdli-

SLAM

Pain lances through Mathias's head as he gracelessly tumbles forward, his face planting cleanly on the cabin floor. Shock and adrenaline shake him from his stupor as he becomes rather acutely aware of two things - one, that he'll probably need to make sure his Aura patches up that bruise before he heads out; and two, that his body felt... heavy. Heavier than usual, at least. Why...

'Oh, right. Airship.' He shuts his eyes tightly, trying to block out the dull ache in his forehead. At least he was alone in his room, so he wouldn't have to suffer the embarrasment of everyone knowing he currently had the agility of a toddler with concrete limbs - not that it helps his flush, of course. 'I hate flying...'

Forcing himself to his feet, Mathias takes in a deep breath and focuses inward, letting his Aura seep into his heavy limbs. Though he begins to feel a cloying emptiness deep in the recesses of his mind, his arms and legs begin to lighten, as though surging with newfound strength. He didn't like fueling his Semblance with this much of his own Aura, but at the moment he didn't have much choice. 'It'll have to do until I'm back on terra firma, at least.'

He heads over to the closet and opens it, revealing two ordinary black suitcases. Popping one of them open, he slowly unpacks a suit of gunmetal gray armor. He frowns at its condition - already coated in a thin layer of dust and spattered with dirt. He'd just cleaned this blasted thing two days ago! With a resigned sigh, he begins strapping on each piece in turn. Cuirass, greaves, armplates, gauntlets, boots. Last is a white cloak, wrapped around a white metal cylinder roughly twice the size of his Scroll. He secures it to his waist before closing the suitcase and motioning to leave the room.

Mathias stops at the door, his hand wrapped around the handle. Catching a glimpse of his appearance in the mirror makes him start for a moment - he looked exhausted, scruffy, disheveled. Like a combat school washout, not like he was about to attend one of the most prestigious Hunter academies in all of Remnant.

Dust, what had he gotten himself into this time? Him? Attending Lodestar?

His eyes, still glinting with barely-concealed nervousness, come to rest on the scar resting on his right cheek. His head reclines forward, gaze half-lidded as his free hand comes to rest on his cheek, gently brushing against it.

He takes in a deep breath, nearly staggering as he chokes back a sob. Now wasn't the time to make a fuss. He was on the verge of attending Lodestar, for Dust's sake! His grip on the door's handle tightens, and he can feel its brass begin to deform ever so slightly.

Hunters are strong. Hunters are brave. Hunters don't cry in their cabin when the greatest opportunity of their life comes knocking!

Another deep breath. He has to be strong. Strong like a real Hunter. Strong for Elva.

Tearing his eyes away from the mirror, he forces the door open, stumbling into the empty hallway. Like his cabin, it's sparse, painted a dull white and extending straight down what he assumes is the airship's length. He glances down one end, before resolving to check on his little sister. If all the rooms were singles like his, she likely wasn't having the most pleasant morning either...

"Man. There's nothing to do." Amber murmured as she stared out of one of the windows that lined either side of the airship.

The Faunus girl was at a loss for what to do with her time before they reached Lodestar. She couldn't exactly spar, not all-out anyway. Her Semblance could end up damaging the ship, and she wasn't going to ruin her chances for Lodestar by causing any trouble. So, that meant she was keeping to herself, mostly. Or at least, to other Faunus and some Humans that seemed friendly enough.

Getting into a fight about race and stuff was the last thing she wanted, and since they were getting close to Lodestar, she felt she succeeded so far. But that also meant that she was bored out of her mind.

Getting up from the window seat she stretched, and ended up having her horns almost graze the ceiling before she decided to head to the ship's cafeteria. Maybe food would get her mind off of her boredom, she thought as she turned and ran straight into the doorway to the hall, her horns bumping painfully into the top of the frame.

Ducking through, she rubbed her horns with one hand and grimaced.

"Why do all the doors have to be so short?" she asked herself as she made her way through the ship.

"Yawwwnnn..."

Chesshie Heliotrope laid back on her bed in the cramped cabin, golden eyes focused on the ceiling and her tail lashed back and forth lazily. Why was she here again? ...Oh right, because she had let herself get careless and ended up getting captured with the Semblance nullified so she couldn't get away.

She'd thought that would be it, but then surprisingly, they'd asked her whether or not she'd prefer to be shipped of to Lodestone Academy, where her talents could be used "for good". Naturally, Chesshie chose this option, even if it meant to her being forced to follow orders.

But she wasn't worried. A good thief was patient, always waiting for an opening, that one moment where they could strike. So Chesshie would wait for a chance to escape, and once again be free to do her own thing.

Chesshie rolled off the bed, feeling like she should get up and do something for the time being, maybe get something to eat?

Di wakes up in the corner of her crowded room, four other Lodestar students, all humans, a few minutes before her scroll started beeping for the morning. This brought a handful of random objects within reach of her other future classmates raining down on her part of the room before she picked up the pillow and stuffed it in her bag, slinging it around her body and onto her shoulder before leaving the room, not really caring how much noise she was making. It was still extremely early morning, but her life at the Enclave had started much earlier than this, and after years of living that way, it wasn't something she ever expected herself to be able to fully give up in favor of waking up later.

Running her fingers through her hair in an effort to make it stay down and not be completely obvious she woke up a few moments before, her legs worked to bring her to get the meager helpings of food that were available for the early hours, she entered opposite of another Faunus, one with freakishly large horns. Then again, horns on any Faunus were freakishly large due to how they were sorta rare in her experience.

Di nodded and took a handful of biscuits from a table, shoving one into her mouth and swallowing before eating the other two slightly more slowly.

"What're you dofing op so earfy?,"She asked around a mouthful of biscuit, swallowing most of it before continuing,"My roommates kicked me out for being up earlier, same thing happen to you? Name's Di"

A loud buzzing noise rang through the cabin, waking Elva with a start. Grumbling sleepily she grabbed the offending scroll and threw it at the wall, the impact mercifully silencing it. Sitting upright, the white haired girl yawned widely and rubbed her eyes.

"Hey Matt... why do we have to be up so early? Matt?"

Looking around the tiny room Elva realized her brother wasn't anywhere to be seen. Panic rose momentarily in her chest before she remembered where she was.

"Oh right, airship... on the way to Lodestar. Calm down, he's just down the hall from you remember?"

Feeling more secure in the knowledge that Mathias was nearby, Elva leaped out of bed and hurriedly got dressed. Her hair was still messy but that's how she liked it. It usually ended up that way anyway so what was the point in trying to keep it neat? Donning her cape and grabbing her axe, she took a moment to admire her reflection in the room's small mirror.

"Finally, I'll get to be a Huntress! This is gonna be so cool!"

Spinning away from the mirror Elva stowed the axe and opened the cabin's door, stepping out into the corridor. Looking to the left she smiled at the sight of her twin lumbering towards her.

"Hey Matt! Wow, you look terrible. Need some help?"

"Hey Matt! Wow, you look terrible. Need some help?"

Mathias started at the sudden voice before relaxing as he recognized its source. He turned around and cracked a strained smile. "No, I'm fine. Just... a bad start to the morning." Not entirely a lie, he mused. Between his less-than-graceful exit from bed and discovering the state of his armor, he was not, in fact, having a particularly plesant morning. The fact remained, however, that he was most certainly not 'fine', if the sense of nerves still gripping his chest had anything to say about it. Not that it mattered, of course - he was never very good at creatively interperting the truth, especially when it came to Elva. Only one thing to do, then - change the subject, and fast.

It was at that moment a massive rumble issued forth from his torso. Mathias looked down with a slightly mortified expression, his cheeks starting to flush. He'd dismissed the twisting pangs in his stomach as nerves, but it seemed his body was keen on correcting that misconception. "L..let's go get some breakfast!" He stiffly marched towards the dining hall, pulling his cloak's hood over his head to hide his face. So much for not making a fool of himself on the first day...

-----

The dining hall also doubled as the airship's main gathering hall - a small stage was set up in the wall opposite the entrance, complete with a speaker system and a small podium. The smell of various breakfast foods wafted through the air, from sausage to toast to pancakes. The students aboard the airship were now starting to wake up en force, and it showed with the increasing bustle around the buffet tables the food was being kept. Most were electing to eat light, with only a few strips of bacon, or a piece of toast, or perhaps merely a cup of coffee.

When it came to food, however, Mathias was not most people.

In one hand, a plate full to bursting with food - what appeared to be no less than a half dozen scrambled eggs, an entire chain of sausages, several bagels, and five pancakes stacked on top of one another, and in the other, an entire pitcher of orange juice. Several times he tried to sit at one of the many tables strewn about the room, and several times he shied away, frightened off by the attention his obvious... appetite was generating. Eventually, he settles on a nearly-empty table near the stage, occupied by two Faunus girls - goat and badger, if their tells are anything to go by - chatting to one another. He takes a seat and begins eating, pointedly avoiding eye contact, hoping against hope that nobody would talk to him and cause him to make a fool of himself yet again...

(( Amber ))

As soon as Amber stepped into the dining hall, she grinned at the smell of fresh food and instantly made a beeline to the breakfast buffet, loading up a plate with several pancakes and several links of sausage, along with several packages of syrup. When she reached a vacant table, she looked up at another Faunus girl as she called over. She had a pair of round, furry ears atop her head. Maybe... A badger Faunus? She began with her mouth full before swallowing and continuing.

"What're you dofing op so earfy? My roommates kicked me out for being up earlier, same thing happen to you? Name's Di."

"What? Nah. I've just been sleeping so much lately because there isn't much for me to do, I'm bored out of my mind. I'm Amber. Go ahead and sit down, I don't mind the company." she said before sitting.

Once she did, she promptly began to drown both pancakes and sausage in syrup until it threatened to slosh off the plate, and then began to wolf it down.

"So, you lookin' forward to bein' a Huntress? Pretty excited myself." she said in-between massive bites.

It wasn't long though before they were joined by a boy clad in dusty armor and carrying a plate even more loaded down with food than hers had been. She couldn't help the smirk.

"Guess you aren't too nervous about getting into Lodestar, huh? Name's Amber." she told him.

Then she simply went back to trying to stuff half a dripping pancake into her maw, clearly unconcerned with good manners.

Chesshie's eyes glittered greedily as she looked over the buffet. When was the last time she could freely fill her face? ...Well, she couldn't remember, but it didn't hurt to take advantage of the free food.

Beaming happily, she filled up her plate win pancakes, fruit, and slathered most of it in syrup. Satisfied, she grabbed a glass of milk and looked around for a place to sit. Her eyes feel on a pair of Faunus girls and figured it'd be as good as any place to sit.

"Hey, mind if I sit here?" She asked, then sat down anyway. "My name's Chesshie, what's yours?"

Schwarz dozed in the comfort of his private cabin, adorned with the lavishness one would expect for the price it cost him. With the light of the morning sun dimmed by the shaded window, it was up the to gold-plated furnishings to catch what little of it there was and rouse Schwarz from his slumber. However, they only succeeded when the light reached the gilded guard of Blooming Anemone, finally hitting a surface that could scatter its light across the cabin.

Detecting this brightness, Schwarz awoke, immediately regretting the peaceful sleep he had. "Half an hour later than planned, ugh." With a roll of his eyes Schwarz quickly showered and dressed himself in his regalia: his usual garb with several polished pieces of armor covering key points. Like more of his formal wear, it was mostly ceremonial in nature, but few could deny the appearance was rather stunning.

Now ready for the day, Schwarz was greeted with a breakfast set out for him in his cabin, delivered by a steward. It was a modest meal, as Schwarz had ordered, served with a warm cup of tea.

Once that was carefully consumed, Schwarz looked out his scroll to double-check his itinerary. "Ah, yes, the welcome ceremony..." Schwarz mused aloud as he checked his schedule. "...I still have some free time before then, and there's no point in wasting time sitting in the cafeteria. I guess I'll make use of this time another way."

Equipping his weapon, Schwarz readied himself for a walk-around the airship, taking his time to scope out his competition and potential "teammates" before attending the ceremony.

"Guess you aren't too nervous about getting into Lodestar, huh? Name's Amber."

Mathias almost chokes on a piece of toast as the girl suddenly addresses him. He shoots her a quick look, trying to gauge her intentions. It seemed an innocuous and genuine question... maybe he wasn't as bad at hiding it as he thought he was!

'She seems nice enough...' He swallows his mouthful of food, before cracking what he hopes is an unstrained smile. "Well, I have an acceptance letter somewhere, so I think I have that covered. Provided I make it through initiation, anyway..." He pauses for a moment. He hadn't really thought much about Lodestar's infamous initiation ceremony up until now - the school was very good about keeping its methodology secret. He stares blankly for a minute before realizing he forgot to give his name. "Uh, the name's Mathias, by the way. But everyone just calls me Matt."

[HEADING=2]Cafeteria[/HEADING]

As the cafeteria slowly began to fill with prospective students, so did the number of incidents. Most were simple mistakes of people walking into each other or dropping their food. Some more rebellious students tried to start fights - of the food variety or otherwise - as "training" for Lodestar's notoriously difficult (and secretive) initiation/team forming process. Others sat down with those they knew or wanted to know to start planning how they would rendezvous when the test began. Many suggested animal calls.

However, just as Chesshie introduced herself, one of the many others approached the table. He was well-built - clearly a more physical type hunter-to-be - dressed in red and gold armor with a massive sword on his back. He seemed to smile at the group at the table for a moment before making his way over. As he walked over, his eyes seemed to linger on each of the people at the table for a moment. When he arrived, it was with a smile on his face. He seemed like a kind enough person.

Then he began to speak. "Hey there Kitty-Cat, Goat Girl, uh... Badger Babe?" he said, leaning against the table near Chesshie. A moment later, he reached over and grabbed one of her syrup-covered pancakes with his bare hands and tossed it into his mouth. With the pancake still in his mouth he began to speak. "So what brings a bunch of filthy Faunus to Lodestar? You've got to know you're not gonna pass the initiation test so what is it; a dare? A criminal-release program? The misguided belief people like YOU can get in?" he said between loud, open-mouth chewing.

Meet the Cardin of our game.

[HEADING=2]Outer Edge of the Ship[/HEADING]

Jade's Jog had been going on for nearly an hour when she decided to call it quits and grab some breakfast. Throughout the run, she'd enjoyed a fair measure of isolation. Even on a ship this packed, few people were running so early in the morning. For her part, Jade enjoyed being alone; especially given the situation in her cabin. That was one of the things she was looking forward to at Lodestar; the crowd would be significantly trimmed if the rumors were true.

Running the last leg of the journey, she finally encountered another person training. Well, not so much training as walking. But at least he had a weapon on him. As she was about to pass him she called out "Good Morning."

"No, I'm fine. Just... a bad start to the morning."

"Uh huh... Sure big bro," Elva thought to herself. It was cute how he tried to act big and strong for her even when he wasn't doing so great himself. She quickly forgot those thoughts however when her brother's stomach rumbled like an earthquake, causing her to burst out laughing.

"L..let's go get some breakfast!"

"Hehe, okay big bro. Let's go!"

[hr]

The cafeteria was huge, with dozens of students sitting around eating and chatting. The amount of food stunned Elva, while Mathias was busy filling his plate with everything he could see she stood there trying to decide what she should go for. After much deliberation she settled on a plate of pancakes drowned in syrup and a giant glass of juice.

Humming cheerfully to herself, Elva wandered over to where her brother was sitting with a few faunus girls. Some big dude with a sword was standing next to them, munching on something while talking. Not hearing what he was saying, Elva plonked herself down next to Mathias and grinned at the others.

"Hi! I'm Elva, this big lump's little sister. Pleased to meet you!"

"So, you lookin' forward to bein' a Huntress? Pretty excited myself."

"I gueff you could fay fat,"She said, again around a mouthful of mashed together food,"Kinna juft waitin' befer I git in"

"My name's Chesshie, what's yours?"

"Just call me Di,"Having swallowed her last helping of food,"Easier than my full name anyways."

As they talked among themselves, a particularly archaic and thoroughly unpleasant human sat down, took food from other's plates, and began talking. Typical human behavior.

"So what brings a bunch of filthy Faunus to Lodestar? You've got to know you're not gonna pass the initiation test so what is it; a dare? A criminal-release program? The misguided belief people like YOU can get in?"

Di couldnt help but guffaw at his comments. Some of it because of how close to the truth it was, for her at least.

"They let you on here didn't they, Mr.Compensating-For-Something? They'd have to have lowered their standards for you to be Lodestar material. In any case, eat the rest of the food in your hand, and leave,"She waved her hand in the general direction of "not-near-her" and continued,"I've spent most of my life dealing with your kind of human, and I don't feel like doing it now."

(( Amber ))

Amber couldn't help but return a small smile to the boy as he swallowed and spoke up, introducing himself.

"Well, I have an acceptance letter somewhere, so I think I have that covered. Provided I make it through initiation, anyway... Uh, the name's Mathias, by the way. But everyone just calls me Matt."

It seemed he was a little nervous after all, but then again, she could hardly blame him. After all, Lodestar was infamous for being brutal on students, and for good reason. The idea certainly made her a little anxious, but her boredom had far outweighed that by this point.

They were joined shortly by three more prospective students, a Faunus girl with cat ears that introduced herself as Chesshie, a human girl that bore a slight resemblance to Matt, and a human boy in red and gold armor with a massive sword. She gave them each a nod as she speared a sausage link on her fork. She was in the middle of lifting it up to take a bite when the boy opened his own mouth.

"Hey there Kitty-Cat, Goat Girl, uh... Badger Babe?"

After that, he simply took a pancake from Chesshie's plate and ate it, not even bothering to swallow before he continued.

"So what brings a bunch of filthy Faunus to Lodestar? You've got to know you're not gonna pass the initiation test so what is it; a dare? A criminal-release program? The misguided belief people like YOU can get in?"

Amber pushed herself to her feet and stood before slowly walking around the table to him. Her expression was blank, mostly, save for the eyes hidden behind her hair. They were locked on the boy's with a glare. When she reached him, she gave him a wide smile, showing the slight gap in her teeth. Then she reared back and slammed her forehead into his with a savage crack.

The result was her reeling back a step and reaching up to rub her horns.

"Wow. Got as hard a skull as I do..." she said in a dazed murmur, shaking her head once in an attempt to clear it.

"Just call me Di, easier than my full name anyways."

Satisfied, Chesshie continued eating. She couldn't put a finger on it, but the badger girl seemed quite familiar, a though that stuck with her even as more people showed up and began chatting.

But before she could ask Di, yet someone else turned up, a young man in armor with a sword. He didn't seem quite as friendly, as he snatched a pancake off her plate and ate it even as he was speaking. "So what brings a bunch of filthy Faunus to Lodestar? You've got to know you're not gonna pass the initiation test so what is it; a dare? A criminal-release program? The misguided belief people like YOU can get in?"

Chesshie bristled, not just because he had stole her food, but because th way he spoke made her realized he was one of those types, the people who would look down on anyone for any reason. And while Chesshie was usually the carefree type... she honestly couldn't stand the smarmy aristocratic types. (Which was why she preferred to steal from them).

Then the antelope girl (at least, that was what she assumed she was) walked over aand angrily headbutter the jerk, only to stagger back afterwards. Chesshie winced slightly. Well, I guess that's what you get...

All the same, Chesshie was just itching to pull out her Queen's Mallet with her so she could smash him into the floor like a flattened tin can.

"Good Morning."

"Good day." Schwarz saw the oncoming woman in the midst of a jog and gave her a curt nod as she passed, a formality at best. However, when she passed, Schwarz felt a moment of distress. A pang of discomfort shook him as the young woman went by.

Tracking her with his eyes, Schwarz could feel her radiating...something. It was hard to place, but it felt that his mere presence had caused a feeling of displeasure, or something, to be elicited out of her. "Intriguing..." Schwarz thought to himself as the woman rounded a corner and fell out of sight. "...I wonder what that was all about."

Letting the reason for that chance feeling fester for the moment, Schwarz turned and continued his walk-around through the ship, moving in the opposite direction of the woman he briefly encountered.

Jet finally summoned up the will to finally get up. He didn't know what it was, but he had just been so edge recently. Maybe it was the fact that he had not only been accepted into a Hunter Academy but he had been accepted into Lodestar - one of the best if not the best Hunter Academies. Either they were ignorant of his past with the White Fang or they were giving the ex-terrorist kid a chance, regardless, he had to prove that their decision was the right one.

...Which wouldn't be helped by a late start.

Well, late was better than never. Still, that wouldn't brush away the annoyance from his mind and the cold water wouldn't wash it away, either. Finished with washing his face, Jet moved into brushing his teeth and getting dressed with a sigh. Even in the best of circumstances, he could hardly be called a morning person and these were hardly the best circumstances. Apart from the welcome ceremony, there wasn't really anything to be excited about.

Another sigh escaped his mouth as he saw the state of the cafeteria.

It was slowly descending into complete chaos as various 'accidents' occurred - really some people would expect better from the prospective students of one of the best and harsh Hunter Academies in Remnant. However, it could be a way to sort out the pearls from the swine, who knew? Jet just went with the assumption that it was simply jerks being jerks as he got his breakfast and sat down in a relatively quiet area of the cafeteria.

The Owl Faunas couldn't help but stare over at the raucous happenings though.

Elva munched happily on her pancakes as one of the Faunus girls stepped up to the swordsman. She jumped however when the horned girl smashed her head into his, causing her to choke for a brief moment on her food.

"Yikes that looked painful... He must have a thick skull."

Coughing to clear her throat Elva glanced around at the others and asked "Um, did he say something to annoy her? I didn't hear..."

Mathias balks at the man's sudden shift in behavior. He'd seen plenty of racism against Faunus in the past, but at least those bullies had the smarts to try and keep it somewhat subtle. He should probably try to defuse this situation before Elva caught wind of what was going on - Mathias almost shuddered to recall the last time she saw somebody(namely him) getting bullied and the... sorry state the bully was in afterwards. This jerk wasn't worth losing her spot at Lodestar! He almost motions to say something, but is cut off by one of the Faunus girls at the table.

"They let you on here didn't they, Mr. Compensating-For-Something? They'd have to have lowered their standards for you to be Lodestar material. In any case, eat the rest of the food in your hand, and leave. I've spent most of my life dealing with your kind of human, and I don't feel like doing it now."

The man bursts out laughing, his face settling into a sneer. "Oh, that's RICH, coming from a degenerate like you." He gives several pointed chews of the food in his mouth before continuing - giving an amused glare all the while. "Is fighting Grimm like a sibling rivalry thing for you?"

The man trails off as Amber slowly rises from her seat and marches over. It's only now that Mathias can appreciate that she's much, much taller than he initially appraised - she's probably only an inch or two shorter than himself, and that's really saying something! The man narrows his eyes, but he maintains his sneer - if anything, the grin widens. "And what do we have here? A little baby lamb come to-"

CRACK

In a blur, Amber's head smashes into the man's. They both reel back, clutching their scalps. The bully seems to be the first to recover, a thin stream of blood trailing down his forehead from the place one of Amber's horns made contact. Gone is his sneer - replaced by an expression radiating indignant rage. "You... YOU *****!" Mathias can see him reach for the sword strapped to his back, glaring at Amber with murderous intent.

He feels the world slow to a crawl. There's no way Elva's missing what's going on now - and she's GOING to do something rash. He has to do something - anything!

The sword leaves its sheathe, and unbidden, Mathias's body flies out of its seat, slamming into the man's side. The force of the impact lifts him clean off his feet and he's sent rocketing across the dining hall, before smashing into a table in the far wall - right next to a bewildered owl faunus.

Mathias's eyes widen in a mixture of embarrassment and terror. He most certainly did not mean to hit that hard.
