Elva asked how they should get to school to which Jade had a few ideas. "Well we could probably take the rocks for another-" she started to say before an Ursa jumped atop a nearby rock. Jade spun down into a shooting stance and readied an arrow before she saw an unexpected sight; it had a rider.

"Hey girls. Need a ride to school?" the rider said, drawing a blank stare from jade. "Did that girl just ride in on an Ursa?" she thought to herself before letting it go; that really wasn't the strangest thing she'd seen today. Elva seemed to jump at the chance, quickly transforming her weapon and hoping aboard. "Well crap... I'm probably gonna die." she thought to herself again as she climbed aboard and re-readied her bow.

Matt watches with silent awe as the other applicant brings down the entrance to the pass with absolute, stunning grace. Rather than apply unwieldy brute force like himself, the noble(or Matt surmised, at least, based on his fine clothing) accomplished the task with a careful application of Dust. With such fine control, it was little wonder he'd gotten accepted into Lodestar.

They continued their jog away from the collapsed entrance, the sound of roaring and baying fading into the distance. Even with their numbers and strength, it would likely take hours for the horde of Grimm to clear out a clean path, considering the fact the stone overhead was now unstable and rocky. Now that they also had the cover the canyon provided, the immediate danger the horde presented was now abated - at least for the moment. Matt took this reprieve as an opportunity to slow his pace and catch his breath. To his mild surprise, despite sprinting at a full tilt across a valley in heavy armor under the blazing desert sun, his breath didn't need all that much catching. In fact, once he steadied his terrified breathing, he found that he was almost surging with newfound strength - possibly a result of residual Aura from his initial display.

'I'll take victories where I can find them, I guess. Even if they weren't really my own doing.' He takes a moment to look over his new ally - immaculately poised, exuding confidence, and with a look of practiced resolve. Even now, with his gear slightly gritty from the dust and sand, he looked like a poster-boy for the classical image of a Hunter. Regal. Graceful. Fearless.

Matt's polar opposite, in other words.

He shook his head to clear away the increasingly negative thoughts before clearing his throat, trying to catch the man's attention. "That was... um... impressive." Matt gave himself an internal jab at that - 'Of course he knows that, you awkward idiot!' - before continuing. "Thanks for the save. I'm Mathias, but everyone just calls me Matt."

Their pace had slowed to a steady jog, trying to conserve their energy in the blazing desert sun. The pass was long and winding, but if their Scrolls were anything to go by it was in a generally northward tack. He scanned the tops of the canyon cliffs, vigilant for any sign of wandering Grimm packs - while it was very unlikely a large one would blunder into their cover, it was still worth keeping an eye out.

A sudden shift in the wind kicked up the grit and dust settled on the canyon floor, briefly bringing Matt's attention to the canyon proper. For a fraction of an instant, Matt could have sworn he saw something outlined in the dust - a tiny series of lines, criss-crossing the length of the canyon immediately ahead. He urgently sends a message to his legs, ordering them to stop their jog.

As he lurches to a halt, he comes within inches of one of the nearest lines, and as he affixes his vision, and as he realizes what it is, yet another feeling of dread washes over his body. In the corner of his vision, he sees his compatriot continue his trot, oblivious to the imminent danger. He motions to shout something - a warning, a plea, anything!

But it's too late. As the man jogs forward, his body collides with several of the strands, and a terrifying hiss can be heard echo across the canyon. In a flash, strands of white silk shoot from the surrounding rocks, cleanly making contact with their hapless victim. As the silk snakes around his body, it suddenly pulls taut, effectively acting as a snare.

Matt watches with horror as a swarm of Arachnae skitter out of the surrounding terrain, their white carapaces blending in near-perfectly with the surrounding stone. Baring their mandibles with a hiss, they leap forward with frightening speed.

Matt extends Irdenkrieg to its full length and leaps to intercede between several of the spider Grimm and his new ally, and with a great sweep, swats them from the air before they make contact. In the same motion, he raises his right arm and extends his palm forward, and a mechanical whir can be heard as the armor plating around his arm and shoulder suddenly collapse into the base of a large gun. He completes the motion by slotting Irdenkrieg into its front, and with another whir it collapses into a set of eight barrels, spinning in sync.

"Are you okay!? We need to get out of-" The words die in his throat as his vision extends further down the canyon. Approaching around the corner is the biggest Arachnae he's ever seen - at least twice the size of the average Ursa Major. A terrible black ichor sprays from its mandibles as it hisses and advances forward.

Zuma, this trap does two things - firstly, it imposes a -2 penalty to Athletics skill, applying the situational aspect 'Immobilized' if this would take your skill below zero. Secondly, the situational aspect 'Ensnared' has been placed on you. Both aspects of this trap can be Overcome, as per the action, with a DC 4 Physique check. (You get a +1 to this check because Matt is nearby, trained in Physique, and more than willing to help, as per the teamwork rules.)

You also need to make a DC 3 Combat check to fend off the Arachnae Matt couldn't reach with that initial sweep.

"Stupid, stupid! You incompetent fool!" In the time he spent ensnared, Schwarz quickly bruised his own ego as his mind forced him to recount the mistakes that led to him being in such a precarious position.

After bringing down the entrance, Schwarz distracted himself with admiration of his handiwork, even letting his new "comrade" stroke his ego with some praise. However, even after that, when he noticed his lack of attention, his self-reminder of the painful lessons of his youth to never drop his guard-or never leave his back to a door-were for naught. He focused too much on where he thought the most likely threats would come from the pass: from behind where he knew the horde would be trying to burst in, and above, where anything lurking on the plateaus could ambush him. These mistakes culminated in his current situation: trapped in the binding of webs as Arachnae bore down on him and the one who called himself Mathias.

Snapping himself out of his introspective reprimand, Schwarz again focused on the here and now. "Focus on the Grimm!" Schwarz snapped at Mathias as he moved to help, submitting for aid too great to bear, even in this circumstance. "Let's see...Arachnae webs are made to bind harder the more you pull...I need to do this in one clean motion..." Thinking about how to break out of his bounds, Schwarz remembered a move one of his uncles taught him and his younger relatives. Copying the motions he held in his mind, Schwarz let his muscles go limp, for only the briefest of moments. Then, with a sudden jerk, Schwarz stretched out and then quickly brought his limbs in, towards himself. This quick slackening and tightening loosened the snare. Finally, with a tight spin and forcing of weight towards the weakest point Schwarz could feel in the trap, the strands broke away.

Now, for the Arachnae that closed on him, Schwarz quickly took a stance and worked to clear the field. However, the Arachnae were quick, faster than Schwarz originally thought, and he was met with some difficulty trying to pin them down. However, he remembered his training, and redoubled his efforts. Soon, he was able to hit the weak points in the Arachnae that had closed on him, finally getting some breathing room.

It was then that his noticed the massive Arachnae closing in. Instinctively, Schwarz moved in for the engagement, but it was then that he could feel that he wasn't in his best state anymore. The move to get out of the trap had caused his muscles to tense and want to cramp, and the Arachnae he already had to fight had gotten a few blows in. With a sigh, Schwarz looked over to Mathias, knowing at this point that even he couldn't win this alone.

(( Amber ))

The girl from earlier, Matt's sister, looked overjoyed by Amber's arrival, while her companion looked more dumbstruck than anything else. With an enthusiastic leap, Matt's sister got onto the Ursa's back and shifted her battleaxe into a lethal-looking machine gun.

"Onward to Lodestar! Come on Jade, let's go!"

Jade seemed to stare for another moment before finally climbing up herself, and Amber made sure to have her sit just in front of her so she wasn't at risk of falling off, and so she could cover the front.

"Well, you heard the lady you mangy furball, TAKE US TO SCHOOL!" she cried with a grin, kicking the Ursa's sides to make it start to gallop across the sands again.

"I'm Amber, by the way! You must be Jade. And you are?" Amber asked, nodding both to Jade, then to Matt's sister as she steered the Ursa back on course.

"Focus on the Grimm!"

Matt nodded, his expression solemn despite his trepidation. The Grimm were the real threat here. Not only were even more minor Arachnae coming out of the proverbial woodwork, a Queen Arachnae had seen fit to reveal herself, fangs bared.

Matt fought down the urge to gulp. Sanctuary had some unpleasant combat courses, but NOTHING like this.

Pushing past the terror rising in the pit of his stomach, he refocused his vision ahead, toward this new threat. It was carefully stepping on the webbing provided by its lesser kin, almost appearing to skitter deftly through the air. A thought struck him - that webbing needed to be anchored to the canyon wall, to support the weight of such a monster.

He bites down on his lip. He still had some Aura left over from his last channeling, but would it be enough? Another hiss from the Arachnae moving to surround them snaps him out of his stupor, and hardens what little resolve he has left. It was worth a shot, at the very least.

He shoots a glance at his ally - he'd managed to work his way out of the Arachnae's snare, and had assumed a stance at his back, ready to fight off any approaching Grimm. "Jump when I tell you to!" A deep breath, a raised leg, a closed set of eyes. He chants the familiar aria in his mind, willing the Aura to gather in his leg. "Now!"

The leg comes rocketing down, and another deafening crash echoes across the Wastes as it makes contact with the stone. Matt's eyes fly open once again, just in time to see the force from the impact ripple outwards, causing the canyon terrain to upend and shatter in its wake. He quickly trains his vision towards the Queen Arachnae and relaxes - It seems to stumble in midair before coming crashing down, disoriented. It would seem his little scheme had worked!

Time to seize the advantage.

Bringing Irdenkrieg to bear, he spins up its barrels and slides into a bracing stance, planting his feet firmly into the stone. He looks at his compatriot, gesturing forward with his weapon. "I'll cover you!" He squeezes the trigger, and the familiar roar of gunfire tears through the canyon. The recoil forces even Matt to double-check his footing, but he holds fast, Dust rounds whizzing through the air and forcing the Grimm in their wake to seek cover or be torn to shreds.

"Now!"

Following the recommendation, Schwarz leaped into the air and watched as Mathias shattered the landscape with the force of his Aura and a good stomp on the ground. Then, upon landing, saw him bring his weapon to bear and spray a barrage of ammo down the pass.

"I'll cover you!"

Seeing the opening Mathias had made, Schwarz charged towards the Queen, using the upended rocks to keep out of the line of fire. With nothing in the way to slow him down, Schwarz found himself quickly upon the Queen, who was still recovering from the shock of Mathias' attack.

"Now's my chance!" Seeing a perfect opportunity to strike where it would do the most damage, Schwarz jumped high into the air, turning at the launch's zenith to use gravity to aid in his blow. In the scant seconds he fell back down towards the Queen, his Aura began to shine a brilliant golden hue. The color spread to his hair and eyes, causing Schwarz's usually dark features to glow like the sun.

In that brief second of power, Schwarz slashed a glowing Blooming Anemone across the Queen Arachnae's back, shattering her carapace. When the damage was done, he retreated, weary of Mathias running out of ammo and allowing the lesser Grimm to reemerge.

Jet clenched his jaw as he set to work, 'The first shot'll get his attention, better make it count, bird-boy.'

The Striges's Dirge folded and twisted itself once more, leaving a sniper rifle where a trident once was. Jet dug the three spikes that had served as the blades of the trident and now served as a tripod into the hard ground as he went prone. The Owl Faunus took deep breaths as he lined up the shot, steadying his heartbeat. Satisfied, he held his breath, releasing it as soon as he pulled the trigger and unleashed a large bolt of energy upon the Death Stalker. It was a solid hit. However, its pale white carapace seemed to absorb most of the force. The Creature of Grimm wasn't down for the count just yet.

Hopefully his aid wouldn't go amiss. Well, whatever the case, he was doing a Hunter's job.

The Queen Arachnae reels at the impact, stumbling back futher and loosing a shrill cry. Soon, however, it manages to right its footing and it continues its advance towards Matt and Schwarz.

The Queen wasn't the only one taking the initiative - several additional minor Arachnae emerged from hiding spots in the nearby crags and open their jaws, spraying out a line of silken webbing. The web latched on to Matt, pulling him off-balance and forcing him to retract Irdenkrieg back into its staff form.

Further down the pass, several additional Arachnae drones began reconstructing the web torn down by Matt's shockwave, and the Queen remounts it, silently advancing with terrifying speed. As it reaches striking distance, it rears forward and lashes out at Matt, fangs bared. Matt blocks its advancing maw with Irdenkrieg, grunting under the effort as his legs dig into the stone under the monster's immense strength. In the corner of his peripheral vision, Matt can make out the remaining swarm of minor Arachnae maneuver in the newly-formed web to surround Schwarz, before lashing out themselves with a unified hiss.

Gritting his teeth in frustration, Matt rears back and pushes as hard as he can against the Queen Arachnae, forcing it to stumble back more than a few paces in its web before it rights its balance. Spying a particularly large slab of stone tossed up from his earlier display, Matt brings his foot down on its base, forcing it upright.

'Advancing into that web is suicide, and I'll leave myself wide open if I try to reload Irdenkrieg.' Grabbing the massive slab of stone with his right hand, he drops into a bracing stance. Heaving the rock off the ground, he spins in a full circle to build momentum before tossing the boulder at the Arachnae. It tears through the web with ease, smashing into the Grimm's side with a sickening crunch. It looses another terrifying hiss as black blood spurts from underneath the stone before it shakes it loose - but not without losing several legs in the process.

The Arachnae have managed to Overcome both of the Advantages Matt created in my last post, and thus they can no longer be invoked against them. They have also created an advantage of their own - 'Impromptu Web' - and have used the two free invocations it provides to strike at both Matt and Schwarz. Matt needs to defend against a +8 hit(already done in this post), and Schwarz a +6.

Diamond, Much later in the day

The Badger girl continued her way across the tops of the canyons and valleys, avoiding most of the Grimm horde that had appeared out of seemingly nowhere discernible before finding an outcropping of rock to survey the surrounding area, Lodestar had begun to appear on the horizon, the towers specifically, so she was certain she was still going the right way, but she still had a while to go. Crouching on top of her rock peering into the distance, she jumped down and continued north.

Having come across none of the other students since her initial dropoff, Diamond had concluded that she was in the lead and besides the Boarbatusks from earlier, had been able to avoid the Grimm horde, mostly due to being lucky enough to land on a plateau stretching quite a ways, sheer walls preventing climbing of any sort that would catch up to her brisk pace. However, it was exactly her brisk pace that would end up being the death of her out in this heat and exposure, not much could be about it here, though. She'd have to continue on and get to Lodestar as soon as she could.

The ground was just as dry as the bones sticking out here and there, but Di kept on, and it became clear that to continue she'd be forced to descend a bit, almost certainly within Grimm range for the rest of the journey. A sigh and a few moments hoping for the sweat on her body to evaporate instead of being burned away and instantly replaced by yet more, she began her descent. It was most certainly cooler down here and her sweat was no longer so much being burned away by the sun as it was now pooling. She was going to have to get more sets of clothes if Lodestar required more exercises in this waste's heat.

She continued on the small ledge she'd found to continue her initiation, not wanting to fully climb down to the ground to the Grimm, though they had cleared out somewhat, either going back into hiding or growling at her position they couldn't quite reach, mostly Minor Grimm, but a number of them none-the-less, and she knew she wasn't yet ready to take on three-score or more that were waiting for her to fall off the edge. It was then that she saw a rather curious sight, something heavy was coming, heavy enough to kick up clouds of dust as they made their way through the canyon, at which point Diamond crouched down to her stomach, trying to hide herself in a location she could watch from, but it wasn't her forte.

Soon enough, the dust cloud got closer and closer, and to say she was surprised by what she saw would be an understatement. Three other girls riding an Ursa, Minor she believed. Well, more holding on while the girl at the front directed the obviously unhappy Grimm around. Looking closer, she recognized two of the three of them, one being the Goat Faunus from earlier that day, the other the human girl that had a brother around here somewhere.

I wonder where he is, they seemed pretty close to pick a fight with that moron on the ship as fast as they did. Almost as close as- Can't think of the past right now, Lodestar's more important.

Standing up and dusting herself off, the sweat having turned it into mud, she called down to them,"Yo! Amber right?"

This is very much later in-game, I just wanted to get a post up before Di was written for me, she also rolled a whopping 2 for a Stealth check

Schwarz was taken aback when the Arachnae redoubled their efforts, the Queen trying to trap and devour Mathias while her brood moved on him.

While this new charge was able to close in on him and get in choice strike, the Grimm striking him with their legs or getting to close for comfort with their ichor sprays, Schwarz was ultimately able to keep them at bay for a moment of opportunity.

The Queen, in terrible shape after wrenching itself free of a large boulder Mathias had chucked at it, was open. Before the smaller Arachnae could close back in on him, Schwarz quickly switched Blooming Anemone into her ranged form, the blade retracting and allowing the end of a barrel to emerge from the body. Quickly, Schwarz took his aim, zeroing in on the broken spots in the Grimm's armor. Then, he fired, with the sound of the single shot resonating down the narrow spaces and beyond.

The shot was good, striking the Queen right between what remained of her carapace. With a weak roar, the beast cried out in pain, a fresh trail of blood gushing out of its abdomen.

Elva whooped with delight as the Ursa leaped across the terrain, at this rate they'd be at Lodestar in no time!

"I'm Amber, by the way! You must be Jade. And you are?"

"I'm Elva, nice to meet you!" the white haired girl replied as she pulled an ammunition box from her waist pouch, locking it into Labrys and feeding the belt into the barrel. Taking a quick aim down the sight she nodded with satisfaction, the gun was primed and ready to fire. Holding onto the barreling Grimm with her legs she scanned the surroundings, looking out for any threats headed towards them.

"Nice work in the cafeteria this morning by the way, the look on that jerk's face after you smacked him was priceless! Hopefully I get the chance to smack him around myself once we get to school, I think he'd look good with an axe lodged in his face."

The Queen was clearly on its last legs(in more ways than one) as Matt's ally fired several shots into its shattered carapace, drawing forth a familiar spray of ink-black blood. Matt tightened his grip on Irdenkrieg, drawing in a deep breath to steady his wavering resolve - while the Grimm was in its death knell, Matt wasn't sure how many more of those hits he could take.

It was time to finish this.

Rushing forward through the gap in the web the boulder created, Matt stows his weapon and grips the faltering monster at the base of its head. With a heave, he twists it as hard has he can, hearing another sickening crack as the carapace at this hands shatters like so much glass under the immense pressure of his grapple.

Then, shifting his feet around, he gives another heave and tosses the Grimm over his shoulder, forcing it against the ground in a pin against its crippled legs. Its uninjured legs thrash about, trying desperately to gain traction against the air to no avail. Matt grits his teeth and redoubles his efforts as the Grimm makes one last attempt to escape his iron grip. Hopefully his ally would take this opportunity to finish the job before his strength gave out...

Seeing the approaching horde of Grimm, Chesshie knew she had to get out of there, and fast. Suddenly, the already injured Deathstalker collapsed to the ground, with what looked like a bullet hole in its carapace.

Someone had obviously shot the thing for her, though she wasn't sure quite from where. Still, any help at all was welcome, especially he knew she had an ally.

Carefully, Chesshie jumped down from the cliff she was standing on, hoping to find her helper and thank him.

Schwarz indeed saw the opening Mathias has made, the Queen's broken body a perfect target, even though he was some ways behind the action.

Taking aim, Schwarz twisted the handle of the gun, causing the weapon to pour an ample amount of power into the next shot. At the same time, Schwarz gave the energy focus, a silent command to how the shot would take shape.

Then, he fired.

The glowing dot of light blazed towards its target, pulling pieces of the surrounding earth around it. Everything from dust and sand to chucks of rock wear picked up by the round, compacting against it and radiating their own light as well. Finally, the shape of the engorged round began to sharpen, forming a sharp tip with a fat base. It cut its own hole in the Arachnae's web like a knife cutting hot butter, and then struck the Queen square in its bloody abdomen. In that instant, the Queen was ripped out of Mathias' hands and impaled on the spike Schwarz had fired. The spike soon nailed the Arachnae Queen to a wall, its blood pouring down the rocks and painting a good portion of the pass a gory black.

"Excellent..." Schwarz muttered to himself as he walked down the pass, towards Matt. As he traveled, the spike that had taken out the Queen began to cool, allowing its final form to be seen: it had become a diamond. "...a true shot."

When Schwarz came next to Mathias, he looked down at him with a smirk, but made no move to help him up. "You provided a lovely opening." Schwarz looked back at the Queen, taking only the briefest of moments to enjoy his handiwork. "At least he wasn't a hindrance."

As the spike of earth tore the Arachnae from his grip, Matt stumbled back, releasing a shudder as he went. It was over. They won.

Doubled over, breathing hard, he focused all of his effort on supressing the sudden surge of fear that rose up in his gut. The terror, the apprehension, the self-doubt - every emotion he'd bottled up to focus on the fight came back in full force, nearly knocking the breath clean from his lungs. 'Remember what Elva said. Breathe. BREATHE. It's dead. Gone. It can't hurt me. I'm going to be fine.'

So much for putting on a strong face.

After taking a moment to steady his roiling emotions, Matt dusted himself off and picked himself off the ground - or tried to, at least. Dirt seemed to have a preternatural attraction to his personal effects, so it mostly just had the effect of pushing the grit around.

"You provided a lovely opening." Matt didn't miss the slight undertone of arrogance the statement carried, but he was too focused on keeping himself from doubling over again in fear to care much. "Thanks... I guess." One last deep breath and he felt the dread recede, at least for the moment. He started down the canyon pass - the sooner they were away from this awful place and back on the road to Lodestar, the better.

As he walked, he looked his new partner over for a moment, before realizing that despite the fact they had just engaged in a life-or-death struggle together, he still didn't even know his name. "So, uh... I guess this makes us partners, at least for now. Got a name?"

His eyes when wide as he saw the other Faunus make her move, 'Seriously?'

All of the things the other Faunus could do, she chose to run. Not away from the injured Death Stalker but towards the stealthy sniper. Jet would've facepalmed if not for the fact that he was transforming Striges' Dirge again for what must've been the third time in a day. 'Too hasty, wait for it to come into melee range first, Hunter-wannabe.' He mentally chided himself. There was time enough to get another good shot in. Jet wasted not a second as he got into position again. Aiming at the same place would be simple enough. Once more, Jet calmed his beating heart with deep breaths and held it, turning the sniper rifle's barrel towards the cracks in the Creature of Grimm's armour. His fingers curled around the trigger, he fired and sighed in relief.

Now to deal with the idiot. Jet shouted, "Hit it, now! Don't even bother with thanks."

"So, uh... I guess this makes us partners, at least for now. Got a name?"

"Zaan..." The Prince turned back towards the end of the pass and brushed off some dust from his shoulder. "...Schwarz Zaan."

Starting down the pass, Schwarz gave a slight, beckoning gesture to Mathias. At the same time, his eyes gave one last glance to the dead Queen. "Well, let's not waste time here. Lodestar's still miles away, and we're losing daylight."

[HEADING=3]Team JADE[/HEADING]

They'd been riding the Ursa for some time; using it to dodge the horde of Grimm. It was a strange ride to say the least, but it appeared at least to work. Ursa tended to avoid other Grimm by their nature and other Grimm were, in general, wont to do the same. Jade couldn't blame them; even Ursa Minor were large angry beasts; not many sane things would choose to be around large angry things.

This, of course, had unfortunate implications for the three girls using it as a horse.

After dodging the horde, the trio made their way into a particularly jagged and unruly piece of the Ivory Wastes. This particular area was likely the genesis of the area's name for large, bone-white stalagmites seemed to burst forth from the ground like the rib cages of aeon-dead monsters that made even the Grimm pale in comparison. Fortunately, the decidedly grim features were nothing more than a curious geological feature.

They'd not made it far into the terrifying elder graveyard when a voice rang out from afar. Jade looked around and eventually spotted the source - another Faunus girl among the crags. She apparently knew the driver for she seemed to yell out "Amber!". Jade pointed in her direction and spoke up. "Hey Amber, is that a friend of y-" she started to say before being flung from the Ursa by a sudden force from behind her.

Spinning as she fell, she glimpsed a pair of enormous teeth past the Ursa as well as no less than four claws; all of which were dug into the side of the Ursa sending splatters of crimson blood across the bone-like sand and stone. Behind her, she saw another of the creatures jump out from the pillars of stone in the unknown Faunus-girl's direction. This one she had a much clearer view of, allowing her to identify the beasts.

"Bloodmanes!" she screamed as she landed and rolled.

To beat their stealth checks you must make a 5 or higher Notice. To resist their attacks, make physique checks of 3 in the case of Team JAE and 4 for Diamond (because the former was aiming for the Ursa)

Di waved down to the Ursa riding group, seeing them react to her before she saw movement in the corner of her vision. Quickly spinning, a cat-like Grimm launched itself past her, a single claw grazing her Aura before landing on the edge of the cliff face, turning to face her. Extending her Icarians, she lashed out at the creature, cutting through the thing's claws with one, the other attempting to go straight into the Grimm's brain, but it saw the attack coming and moved, only losing half an ear as she struck out at it.

Damn cats, always so jumpy

(( Amber ))

When Matt's sister introduced herself as Elva, Amber turned to smile back at her without any regard to watching where they were going. She simply figured that the Ursa would know to move out of the way of danger.

"Nice work in the cafeteria this morning by the way, the look on that jerk's face after you smacked him was priceless! Hopefully I get the chance to smack him around myself once we get to school, I think he'd look good with an axe lodged in his face."

"Ha! Thanks, but I wish I got him better without getting my own skull rattled too.", she told her, before looking back at the girl in front of her, Jade, as she spoke.

"Hey Amber, is that a friend of y-"

Unfortunately, she didn't get a chance to finish what she said as the Ursa was slammed into by something. Amber didn't see whatever was responsible, and in fact didn't see anything but a load of white sand and rock as she was flung off of the Grimm and rolled to her feet none the worse for wear.

Skidding to a halt, she grasped her whips at the ready.

"Crap! What happened, what hit us?" she called out, looking around wildly before Jade answered her question.

"Bloodmanes!"

"Well that sounds bad." she muttered bluntly as she moved to check on her two companions.
