God I remember reading before STALKER SoC came out there would be no loading screens, just one big map. Lies, lies lies :D

Metro2033 and STALKER both share their book roots, and with that comes a small chance at a new setting. Roadside Picnic (STALKERS inspiration) had 6 'zones' and while the game and the book are vastly different.. well theres a small window for a new setting.

Co-op would be interesting but I don't see as much horror with a partner. Example: Resident Evil 5 (Albeit the series departed from Survival Horror at RE4). As Yahtzee puts it: The scariest part is your partner.

Weapon customizations were a boon to refreshing the series.

Edit: Ninja!:D

One of my favorite game series of all time has to be STALKER. From the vicious difficulty to the original setting, there are few points that I don't absolutely love. However, there are a few points where improvement is necessary.

Call of Pripyat, the latest installment, is quite a refinement of the series. Unfortunately it hosts only three maps and Pripyat is a bit of a letdown.

Clear Sky was/is riddled with so many bugs that without modifications its unplayable.

Shadows of Chernobyl had its own issues. I'll just leave it be to stay on topic of this thread.

I have many ideas for the sequel coming in 2012 but I want to see what other STALKER fans and more importantly people who played but didn't enjoy the game would like to see.

Your thoughts?
I played Clear Sky mostly without a mod and found the game very playable... I don't get how a game can be unplayable...
same for me. It crashed maybe once, and I didn't notice any annoying bugs.

It does, you are right. Its just the hype before the original launch was 0 loading screens.

You know what would be nice? If the npc's would interact with the traders. Its nice to see them pick up weapons but sell them too. A living economy.

I didn't play CS so I can only judge CoP and SoC

My STALKER 2 formula

Take STALKER SoC (best one imo)

Update graphics, optimize engine, officially add everything that was in LURK and Oblivion Lost mods (except vehicles, those are totally broken)

Oblivion Lost blowouts that you can watch and survive if you use up your medpacks are superior to CoP.

Make Zone one continuous area like Fallout 3. But keep the fast travel options of CoP where you can talk to a dude and go to any of the "locations" you found.

Keep the random anomaly placement from SoC, the "anomaly fields" thing from CoP made it too much like an amusement park. Random anomalies meant you had to be careful all the time.

Remove the stupid anomaly detector...you need to use bolts dammit!

Fixed location stashes from CoP suck because they neuter replayability.

CoP was WAY too generous with medpacks, ammo and other resources, even playing on max difficulty setting it was too easy. Too many resources on people took the fun out of exploring and finding loot.

Oblivion Lost night vision ruled, you had to trade off between better armor and better vision, I always chose vision but it is a hard choice.

Keep the destructible objects and draggable bodies from SoC. If anything add MORE physics fun stuff like destructible environments.

Set the story after CoP. Here it is, after the events of CoP the military sent a team in to destroy the Zone following the instructions of Strelok. Instead they caused another massive blowout, this time across the entire world spawning anomalies and radiation everywhere. Boom you have an awesome post apocalyptic World of STALKER setting. And since the Zone screws with time and space you can put locations from anywhere in the world together and it makes sense story wise. You get to use the Rule of Cool to determine your set pieces.

Have the damn crows that are flying everywhere come down and peck at dead bodies! It is both cool and in the bleak spirit of the STALKER world. Have boars and dogs actually consume bodies and leave the bones around and make them objects. Make the world more real.

I <3 STALKER SoC.

Hey Scrumpmonkey do you remember the fan fiction that was around before Shadows of Chernobyl? Before anyone played the game there were fantastic stories written about the zone.
I'm absolutely serious.
Also whats the url for STALKER union? I'd like to take a look at that :)

Bugtesting and better graphics.

And improved AI.

Leave the difficulty the same. GSC, you've made a rare game: a true hardcore shooter. Even on the easiest difficulty you will kick the shit out of all those MW2 fags. Please don't ever, ever stop making hard games.

Just fix the names of the guns, too. Sucks when I don't know whether to say "VSS Vintorez" or "Vintar"
They can't use the real gun names , as they are copyrighted. You'll have to get a license to use the real gun name IIRC.

What I want from Stalker 2:
-Same inventory system as CoP, I thought it was the best one of all STALKERS. Same with the upgrade system.
-Get some lipsync modelers please. All that UBERGODBUMPMAPPING with AMAZING PARALLAX and whatever isn't going to stop me from seeing the failing facial expressions.
-A physics engine like Half Life 2? The Zone feels extremely static now, would be nice if we could move some more doors or fences.
- No cars or vehicles
-Big maps filled with content, ala SoC
-Make the travel distance to a safe spot longer. In CoP, every map had a safe spot somewhere (Laundromat, Yanov Station, Skadovsk), while in SoC there were a couple of maps without any real safe spots (Wild Territory, Dark Valley, Forest, Pripyat to name a few).
-Make the zone a little more occupied than in CoP, it was just _to_ empty for me.
-Make quests like CoP. I like how well they were worked out compared to 'Get 10 wolf tails' quests as in SoC. On the other hand, SoC had more quests. Perhaps a fusion of those two would be best ?
-Don't fucking rush anything and finish it at the right time. Stalker SoC could've been way more awesome if you didn't cut 99% :(

Some of my thoughts.

I definitely agree it needs better optimizing. As for general improvements, I hope they look at the most popular mods and take things away from them. The AI mods, Ceano's mod, the better textures and sounds. More quests. CoP had some awesome quests, but I need MOAR! Bigger maps. Hopefully they use a new engine. It would be sick on CryEngine lol. Physics would be great. Oh how about a revamped Artifact system... First they could use more armour options, and have a decent selection with Artifact sacks so that you can equip 4 or 5 easy. More diverse artifacts would be good, they could make artifacts have "classes" so you could get a "healing" artifact with diverse stats from -rad, wound healing, health regen, stam regen etc and then there could maybe be "combat" artifacts that add to your speed, max HP, max Stam, maybe increase reload speed or decrease recoil (say, a strength artifact) etc. The combat ones would have a lot more +rad to them, while healing would have none or negative radiation.

I also hope that they feature some new "big disaster" in the zone which opens up cool new areas. A big tunnel/metro system to explore (Metro 2033 ftw!) would be epic as well. The tunnel part of CoP was really fun but short lived.

And downloading a mod to work around this is so easy. In fact, STALKER (series) is by far the easiest to use modifications with I've ever played.
- No cars or vehicles
Definitely. Nothing could kill the atmosphere like any protection bigger than a exosuit.
-Big maps filled with content, ala SoC

Excellent ones! Thank you for this post.

They are developing a "Brand new engine". http://www.stalker-game.com/en/?page=news has as much detail as they've released.
Oh how about a revamped Artifact system... First they could use more armour options, and have a decent selection with Artifact sacks so that you can equip 4 or 5 easy.
Indeed, SoC had 10 artifact slots with all armors and yet it didn't make it unbalanced at all (Unless you chose to play on Novice ^^
Uhm.. Aside from reload/recoil all of those artifacts exist. The latter are heavily featured in SoC and the former are pretty much all you can get in CoP.
Otherwise good post/good ideas.

Thanks guys.
Also the posts saying SoC rules made me reinstall it and I've been playing it nonstop since CoP and Clear Sky went down (Even though their back up I'm nearly to Yantar and I've already snagged a sexy G36.)

I'd like to see some (VERY WELL IMPLEMENTED) co-op. Think Freelancer style. You're all in the same world, but you don't neccesarily need to help each other out.

The Zone was a scary and lonely place once and I´d also like to see that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
provides the same amount of tension as the original did. But how to achieve that?
First of all resize the profile of the flashlight - in CoP it is filling my whole damned screen, making me feel like walking in bright daylight. In addition: make it worth using the circle of electric light again. What I´m saying is that in CoP (we don´t need to talk about CS since it doesn´t feel like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. at all) are way to few scary dark places. Most of the time you spend walking over ground - and hell "total" darkness exsists only 4 hours a day. The player wasn´t forced to deal with zombies in the dark then, but that´s what creates all the tension in the first game: forcing you to enter a dark, cold lab with a few(!) mutants where your only advantage is the bullet in your gun barrel.
These places weren´t crowded with mutants and they did´t need to be, which leads me to the secound point I expect to be improved in the next game: soundeffects. The acustics in SoC were GREAT, take a look at this: [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AM2AmqZZMs ]
At 0:47 I jumped a little even though I wasn´t playing - THIS is what scares the shit out of
the player: the expectation of someting lethal emerging any second and from any direction.
In conclusion blood-freezer number one: SCRIPTED soundeffects hand in hand with awesome general background sound (dripping water, moaning doors/carriers, etc).
Third and last nostalgic point: loneliness.
Speaking of CoP again. Hell it was cowded - felt like a crazy theme park (patrols)(no offense though you tried something and Pripyat was still great). In my opinion the Zone is not the place for a focus on faction warfare. It is dangerous and making a living is hard enough. I´d rater expect its inhabitants of different thinking to avoid situations of confrontation (unless something similar to the "warehouse-thing" in CoP happens).
Ok I admit it I forgot something, I also want to see cutscenes again (no need to mention a solid story) but that´s all about the nostalgia.
Seriously, I meant this as an advice so let this go through your mind GSC.

NOW to the topic
my actual wishlist: -keep the hidingplacesystem of CoP (no need to find data before looting)
-ad random dead bodies (trashloot)
-keep the ability to repair and attach things to guns but kill the
upgradesystem (it distracts from the important things)
-ad unique guns instead (don´t imbalance it)
-ad an upgradesystem for bullets of different purposes
[humans(hollow point)/armored humans(full metal jacket)/mutants
(hp/fmj/substances that are deadly for mutants - maybe some
sort of anti-rad/etc.)
-weapons aren´t breaking down constantly but unprompted (after an
specific amount of bullets, but prone parts can be changed in
advance)
-ad weapon cleaning (animations) - the grade of cleanliness sould be
proportional to the functionality (jamming/accuracy)
-make mutant fights deadlier (meaning: they´ll kill you quick but in
return they don´t eat what feels like 100 bullets to the head)
[providing right ammo and standart assaultrifle calibre a bloodsucker
should drop dead with 2 bullets to the head]
{make tiny mutants faster, ad abilities to the ones that can´t use their
speed as an advantage: bloodsuckers in CoP were cool (approaching
sounds, invisibility -> balance)
maybe ad knockdowns(->stomps on you and kills you with one attack on
hardmode) or knockbacks for big ones and infections for others}
-take out burers or make them less lame (easier to kill with a knife than
an assaultrifle -> wtf moment -> not cool, neither frightening)
-let all equipment be available from the beginning but make it impossible
to obtain and entertain it with the money you earn in the beginning
-make the "making-money-thing" a REAL pain in the arse and ammo goods of
luxury (not because noone sells it but because you rarely find it and
it`s kind of expensive)
-close the gaps of damage between weapons of a kind (the type of ammo
should dictate the biggest part of damage (accuracy is another topic)
-improve stealth
(-ad a bolt action sniper rifle - maybe an old m24 - seriously I love
bolt action rifles :p )

thank you for reading through this

One: no more separate areas, just one big area.

Two: more new mutants and a variety of DIFFERENT types of npcs.

Three: bring back anomalies, yes there were anomalies but they were in one small area of the map I want them all over the map like SoC but also keep the ones in CoP as well.

Four: Vehicles.

Five: changing environment example snow.

Six: more weapons.

seven: girls.

Eight: easter eggs.

Nine: more voice actors.

Ten: when they say Pripyat you get Pripyat.

Eleven: better graphics.

Twelve: stop putting wired fences as borders instead put in anomalies.

Thirteen: more then one town or city.

Fourteen: put in more factions.

Fifteen: more armies( americans, NATO, Russian, British)

Sixteen: Different story lines.

Seventeen: online Co-op in campaign.

Eighteen: making your own factions.

Nineteen: realistic gore.

Twenty: Customizable avatars.

customizable avatars? seriously this is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. not World of Warcraft
more armies? what would that be like - a warzone? making your own factions like guilds in WoW?

PLS don´t you fuck up the game because you read stuff written by people who played WoW or GTA way too often (DON´T TAKE OFFENSE JUST BE REALISTIC PEOPLE).
STAY FOCUSSED the original was great IMPROVE it rather than make a DIFFERENT game out of it.

Well, i would only wish MORE!! more areas to explore, more artefacts to discover, more mutants to slaughter, more weapons to fire... etc. Also, it*d be cool if you had first completed the campaign, you could roam free with other players in the zone, cuz' i'm getting bored about being the only intelligent (not walking straight into anomaly, walking against a tree or a wall...Oh yeah make the AI less stupid) guy. Also, the upgrading system could be more versatile, to make it unique, to make it just Your gun, also visually. One of my ideas is that you could recruit stalkers with yourself (not like a faction, just regular stalkers, like you being the boss like in CoP), cuz' i always get a feeling like I'd not be one of the stalkers that roam the zone...Which is something i want to change too. The zone is way too deserted! when i play Cop, I'm happy to see even a stalker corpse! there are not enough stalkers! (yea i know that the zone should be nearly deserted but it's TOO deserted!)BTW the anomaly fields were agreat idea, but i still miss those vortexes behind the corner ready to suck me away.

Just, do it the same, but better. I trust GSC to do a brilliant job and put out another of the greatest gaming experiences you can have.

Also, original setting?

More laboratories.

A day/night cycle that affects gameplay more, such as mutants only coming out at night, aircraft and military during the day, places getting locked down at night for defence etc.

More laboratories

More bleakness, I want the humans more spread out, I want more mind-rapery, more ghosts, more above-beloew-above ground sections.

MORE LABORATORIES...

I know, I know, it sounds like total madness, but I really think I might be on to something there.

OH yeah, and i've always wondered that where the f*** all the stalkers get their g36s and fn2000s? wouldn't it be more likely for them to have weapons like m14, ak-47, g3, uzi smg, or something homemade? I mean, where are those hi-tech weapons coming from? it doesn't make any sense, so: STALKERS SHOULD USE OLDER WEAPONS!!
