Now I only joined in may 2011 and I have been an in and out sort of guy on here, but I have noticed alot of great talent leave. Starting with Extra credits way back when, Lisa Foiles was next. First she left then she came back and now she is gone again. Now last but not least is good old Jim I remember his first show when he started on here and the corner stone he was to the website, love him or hate him he drew the views and the traffic. All that is left on here that is interesting for me is Yatzee and Movie Bob, but Bob has recently started loosing my interest. Anyone else feel like this website is becoming more empty with every departure?

This happens every time someone leaves. The time for mourning will occur, there will be plenty of people who say they are never coming back ever again because the ONLY REASON EVER!!! that they stay here is now gone, there will be plenty of people who say the site is going to crash and burn into oblivion, and then someone else will step in to fill the empty spot in the schedule.

When that person leaves, the time for mourning will occur, there will be...

People (well shows) come and go (I was fond of Doraleous and Associates and There will be Brawl). Give it some time and they will probably have some new people (and shows) to take over.

they are definitely loosing very popular content. personally i watch movie bob every now and then but i dont like spoilers so i skip most of the reviews, and the only other real reason i visit is jim and yatzee.

if yatzee left i wouldnt have any reason to visit any more as it stands ill probably be visiting to see his videos and thats about it.

i would love to see the visitor number on the site from last week till next week

Is that really the case now? Compared to '09, I'm suprised at how much is being done here by 2-3 people. Jim leaving has taken out 3 of the main shows leaving Yahtzee, Moviebob and LRR as the main attractions to the site. Even then, LRR has more content out there outside of The Esacpist.

The lineup is quite a bit smaller than it once was.

Right now it is...until they add another show.

Now granted, Jim was probably the biggest contributor the Escapist has lost (most of the other shows/contributors lost are one-show bands) but The Escapist is going to be fine. Someone (or likely multiple someones with how many shows he had) will be brought in to fill Jim's shoes. Maybe it'll be a young up and comer on Youtube. Maybe it'll be a big star again pulled into The Escapist like Jim was.

The Escapist is dead, long live The Escapist!

And less people arrive than last time and the site's community becomes even smaller. I actually didn;t realise how small it had gotten until the other day when I noticed how few people were commenting on VP vids compared to a few years back.

I suppose only time will tell.

All I know is that this same story has unfolded for us many a times here. While Jim is likely the biggest big deal we've lost, I don't think he's bigger than The Escapist. If other staff/contributors start bailing, then I'll be a bit more worried that The USS Escapist has hit an iceberg. Otherwise this is just the nature of the internet beast as people come and go to me.

You forgot to mention the inevitable complaining when the new person comes in! I look forward to it - the new contributors, not the complaining. :p

I like Critical Miss and Yahtzee... and that's it. Jim provided at least 1/3 of the major content on this sight. The others were Yahtzee, who I like, and bob, who I don't. That's quite a hit. If they get better content, then great, but if the best they can do is get more game theory type providers... then I may lose interest. This is not nearly enough to sink The Escapist, but it's a staggering loss all the same.

It is a loss that will be felt, true, but the escapist will go on.

The gap will be filled, or someone already contributing may step up with an idea to take the place of what we've lost.

Not that we, as an audience, have really lost anything.
He's still out there, behind his podium, doing his thing.

I do wonder what would happen if they lost Yahtzee

personally while losing jim is sad I hang around for the forums (yes yes I know) rather than content, I don't often watch ZP

I supose site traffic would go down when you lose what brings people here

People come and people go. However, the people who read the articles, who watch the rise and fall of new series hosted here, who join and leave user groups, who post silly things on Forum Games...

I do admit that if we lose LRR, I'll be heartbroken forever but I'm not going anywhere and I'm not going to go on a rule breaking spree anytime soon... So I guess things will remain the same for me here.

I'll be bummed that he's gone, but content creators have come and gone from here all the time. So, I'm sure something else will come along and things will go back to be awesome again.

I think this place will be fine. This place is known for having massive shake-ups and drama-llamas, but this place still floats on.

I'm mainly here for the people that I talk to regularly anyways. Didn't think that would ever happen, but hey, stranger things have happened before. :p

Welcome to Yahtzee-and-friends.com
I think it's closer to Marvel Hour With Clickbait Bob. Dot com.

At least Yahtzee is still around.
...for now.

Mr. Sterling's departure is quite sudden for me. From watching Uncivil War, Jim sounded like someone who intended on staying a lot longer.

But at least Escapists can always bring back Smosh's top 5 list! (Please don't).

These threads always start with something in the relatively distant past. Extra Credits left almost four years ago, so it's not much in the way of a pattern.

I mean, yeah, I'ma miss Jim, and right now I don't know what (if anything) will replace him. Yes, if they lose a couple more people I might not bother with video content anymore. My interest in the reviews here just went way down. For now. I'll follow Jim where he goes, and it sucks for the Escapist because it's potentially less ad revenue from me.

But it's not a huge deal.

Meanwhile, I'm just not sure how else I'd waste time.
