The saddest film I've ever watched is Memories of Matsuko, that film made me sit in shock for a good 10 minutes after it had ended. It made me reflect on life more than any other. It's a fantastic film.
I thought I'd blocked that movie out. That wasn't so much depressing as it was unrelentingly cruel, almost to the point of feeling exploitive. I kept expecting a reprieve or a 'point' of some kind, but it just kept going and going and she got none. Ugh, now I feel dirty again, damn you!
I'm sorry! I kept thinking there would be some reprieve too, and then that ending happened and I couldn't stop crying.

TV: I don't watch much TV, so I don't really have one.
Movie: Forrest Gump made me cry the first time I watched it.
Game: Super Paper Mario got to me. But that was one of those 'so happy it's sad' moments.

I just finished watching Steins;Gate. I broke into sobbing tears 6 times and nearly threw up in despair. Before watching that I got fairly upset that no matter how immersed I got, I could never break into tears.

As for the moments, well, whenever the chords start playing in this (around 2 minutes in):
.
They always get me with the damn piano...

The director Stephen Poliakoff makes some amazing telefilms for the BBC, and one is called The Lost Prince, which is about the epileptic and autistic son of King George V who grew up during the build up to the first world war. I have never watched anything so heartbreaking. Just thinking about the ending makes me sob, made all the more moving by the fact that much of it was true. If you like historical drama, you HAVE to watch it.

Plus it features Bill Nighy. Everything is made 72% better by the inclusion of Bill Nighy.

Games: tie between mass effect 3 and swtor, either losing companions in mass effect, or having sad music play at the right time in swtor, it does get me just a wee bit teary.

Books: none I read recently that make me sad.

Film: pixar movies, need I say more.

TV: many shows make me sad at one time or another, TF Prime, MLP: FIM, Teen Titans, there a lot.

Anyone who doesn't cry at one time or another is unhuman.

For a movie, I'd go with Requiem for a Dream. That's the movie I put on sometimes when I need to feel better about a so-called shitty life. Solves that problem real quick.

That track will drop you so hard, so fast. Wait for it.

Fry's Dog

End this fucking thread.

Au contraire.

That goddamn book will break EVERYBODY.

And 'fun' story about this book. Many years ago, when my older brothers dog had to be put down, they were naturally very sad. So, to make them feel better, my mother got them this book. Long story short, it didn't work at all. It just made matters worse.

*Now* this thread is ended.

Simple question, what is the saddest thing you've ever watched or done in any medium. It seems to me that there are a lot of sad moments in media, so we all must of had our saddest moment.

Personally mine was Seymour from Futurama until a few days ago when I read the MLP Fanfic titled "Bubbles". It's about the fan character Derpy's origins. She's normally seen as either mentally handicapped, or just simply clumsy. The fanfic is written in a REALLY simple way, sort of like what you would expect a child to write. But it's writing is still clever and that along with the style makes the sad moments REALLY sink in. The ending is basically Derpy being abandoned by her parents because she's mentally handicapped. The sad thing is, she doesn't know what's going on and is happy because her mommy makes bubbles for her. I just bawled my eyes out when I realized what happened, and that's a hard thing to do with me.
I havent read that one, gonna have to give it a go. Hm...recently? Probably The MLP fanfic "My Little Dashie". Yes I know I am quite late to the party heh. I even knew how it would end, and it still hit my hard in the feel! Hrm...saddest thing though...anything else that comes to mind is "Clannad: After Story". Both of those some people say are over rated, I still enjoyed them quite a lot though.

By the way, how is your fanfic going?

There is ONE SINGLE DAMN MOVIE that I will cry EVERY time I see it.
I am not the kind of person to get really emotional when watching movies, especially when it comes to sad emotion.

But for movies:

I have tried on 4 seperate occasions to watch this movie without a man-tear or full-blown man-cry, but I cannot for the life of me, and I admit this with all my manhood....
watch The Green Mile without turning into a complete *****.
Everytime I watch that movie it becomes an ocean of shame and depression in my eyeballs... Thanks Steven King you ass...

As far as books go:

The Outsiders really got to me. As formerly (and I mean years ago) having the social graces of a rock, I related to this book on so many levels that it became the first book that I read through an entire night to finish.

For Music:

Probably either Johnny Cash's cover for Hurt (inb4 Prototype 2), Jeff Buckley's cover for Hallelujah, or Gary Jules' cover for Mad World (inb4 Gears of War).
Both really pluck my heart strings.

I can get a little over-emotional sometimes, which has lead to a couple tearful moments. I'll try not to spoil much.

-Metal Gear Solid 3. There comes a point where you, the player, are forced to kill a certain character that is somewhat important in the Metal Gear franchise. You put your gun to their head, and the game will not continue until you push the fire button. It is the single cruelest thing any game maker has done (that I've experienced). It didn't drive me to tears, but it did make me sit there in contemplation for a while.

-Fate/Stay Night. I suppose it would be considered a game. The ending of the "Fate" storyline is a massive downer in itself. The true ending, "Last Episode" is actually a happy ending, but it succeeded in making me shed some tears. Hell, most of Fate/Stay Night seems to want to tear your feelings apart.

Video games: Homeworld, Return to Kharak [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJvYZXUT5Bk]. It was an awesome opening scene for the game. It *really* made me feel for these guys and hate the Taiidan so much.

Anime: GitS: 2nd Gig, Sacrifice of the Tachikomas [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uELeeRer4Hg]. They do something similar in season 1 but couldn't find a YT vid of it. Both were quite sad though, since they have essentially just gained sapience but sacrifice themselves out of loyalty to their comrades... all the while singing that nursery rhyme.

TV: Band of Brothers, why we fight. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PNjQi1Pmkc] Well, there were a lot of scenes that were soul crushing actually.

Book: Can't think of a sad book, I know I've read one but I can't remember it.

The ending of Cowboy Bebop, the little girl in the red dress in Schindler's list and the Lion King. That's just off the top of my head.

Edit: And for video games I would have to say HomeWorld in the when Kharak is being destroyed. Just too beautiful for words.

Music wise I'd say Comptine d'Un Autre Été by Yann Tiersen.
