We've all played a game, you know, That game. The real tear jerker. Well, To set the mood, there is always sad music in one way or another. What do you feel is the saddest Video Game Song or Melody you have ever heard? And If you can find it, post a link.
I'm going with "Theme of Love" from Mother 3. It's simply remarkable. It leaves you with the feeling of sorrow and sadness, but with a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

I checked to see if this was done before, but If it was, and I missed it, sorry.

As much as you guys may hate the game, the ending credits for Sonic Unleashed pretty much nails this topic for me.

EDIT: "Dear My Friend (Special Friend)" ~Brent Cash

Just stay out of the Ball Pit with them. It's a little too late for Timmy here.

Yeah, was going to post that one. Describes the sad situation very well, plus it's also an awesome song on his own. And it's used very well in the game. Not so overused like a lot of good songs in other games, but only a few times on really important moments. Hearing that song for the first time, after 20 hours or so, when you heard it every time on the startmenu..

The first time I heard that song was in concert, and I couldn't help but start crying. I'd never heard any FF song but One-Winged Angel before that night...so I broke down after hearing Liberi Fatali and To Zanarkand (and Dear Friends, and Aeris' Theme, and Love Grows...)

Anyway, it probably depends on one playing the game, but I pretty much always tear up when listening to "<url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFd_Hoo_xaw>Homesickness" from Tsukihime. Pretty much it's combination "love," "confession," and "death scene" music.

It's a really simple melody, but it fit every scene where it's used so damn well, I can't help but love it.

The Love Theme from Mass Effect was brutally sad. Especially since it plays:

right after you have to choose to kill off either Ashley or Kaiden.

Every time a question about video game music comes up, I always say the same thing: Shadow of the Colossus. Genuinely, it had it all: everything from exhilirating, adrenaline-pumping music to really, really sad music. I love it.

To The Ancient Land [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujyGhKuZZ9Q&feature=PlayList&p=0BBC0359F8CFF0A6&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=7] is both one of the most beautiful, and saddest video game songs ever. It's the haunting quality of the song that gets me; it plays during the opening credits, and as such you're not entirely sure of the importance of what's going on: you just know that Wander is on a quest of some massive significance.

To Zanarkand for me was definitely the saddest song EVER in my long life of gaming, and it really set the tone for the whole game. Which was depressing.

Read that and instantly thought you meant Green Day and started chuckling.

Again, I'm hesitant to claim this is the "saddest" because I have not sampled everything there is to offer in the world.
