Not sure about "ever", but saddest song I can think of off the top of my head is Johnny Cash's cover of Trent Reznor's Hurt [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clq01TXQR0s]. So good that Reznor declared that the song was no longer his after he heard Cash's version.

Maybe it's just because of personal attachment to the song, but "Creep" by Radiohead always kills me. Same goes for Piano Concerto #2 by Rachmaninov and Ave Maria arranged by Schubert!! I'm a softy.

I'm kinda of the school of thought that Moonlight Sonata is just INCREDIBLY depressing and dark. Gorgeous piece of music, but not so much sad as just a the biggest bum-out in musical history to listen to. I'm not trying to troll, I'm just saying it seems like it's just more emo bullshit.

Now as for my song I don't know if it's the saddest ever, but I listen to it and I find it kind of heartbreaking.

I suggest you take the time to listen to it because while some might dismiss it because it's "mainstream," it doesn't change the fact that it's elegantly written.
