They actually said they removed 106.66 just because they want to get "better" songs.

Uh... no. Fuck that and fuck you Volition. My last bastion of hope was the Metal station after you cut out clothing layers, made NPCs nothing more than dumb targets (when in Saints Row 2 there was a LOT of dynamic behavior), took out the two best activities (Septic Avenger and Fuzz), took out most of the weapons, made the game a huge DLC-fest, and made the city much smaller with much less depth. The ONE thing I could tell myself was "At least they still have some kickass metal songs from the likes of Amon Amarth, Strapping Young Lad, After the Burial, Mastodon, Black Dahlia Murder, and the like." But then they just up and DELIBERATELY alienate that audience because they want to get "better" songs? Or rather "appeal to a wider audience"? Yeah, you can have Gat come back to life, Shaundi go back to her better self, return to Stillwater with the city having everything in it that it used to, bring back all the NPC behaviors, bring back all the weapons, bring back clothing layers, and whatever else you did to piss off your fans with Saints Row 3, but that? With that right there I will never buy a Volition game again, they just lost mine and 5 other people's pre-orders at once with this announcement.

Oh for fucks sake.

So metalheads are just supposed to listen to shitty alt-rock then?

Fuck off Volition.

You could just listen to your own music.

Of course, I appear to be in the novel position of actually enjoying more than one genre of music, and therefore not feeling like I should spite a developer because of an extremely minor part of a game.

Hmm? Is OP genuinely upset over this or is this some kind of satire I don't understand?

If it's the first, buy an mp3.

Part of the appeal to me was never knowing what station I'd get when jumping into a vehicle. The removal of the metal station does sadden me but I doubt I'll miss it.

you have super powers, you can run like Flash and jump like Hulk, who cares about some metal crap station. Why would that be the boiling point of anything!

The problem here is not merely about not having Metal in the game. The problem is the reasoning behind their decision, which was made out of a want for more money or "appealing to a wider audience". It's a design decision born of statistics, which I thought we were all on the same page about? I thought we DIDN'T want game designers making decisions based on metrics. Or am I confused and we all became passive about the games industry overnight?

Licensing music is expensive. It's entirely reasonable for them to drop the least popular station in order to improve the quality of the others. You're just upset because they aren't catering to your personal tastes.

[To] maximize the kind of content that we could get with the budget that we had, we decided to drop The Blood and put money that we would have spent on that station towards getting better tracks for the rest of the radio stations.
Maybe some of us just aren't nearly so reactionary as you are, and didn't read way too far into things and put words into the developer's mouth.

Nice that you're trying to turn this into another nontroversy about "appealing to a wider audience" though--Considering that the idea of trying to get a wider market by removing niche elements is never once mentioned by anyone involved with Saints Row IV.

It's a satire right? Please tell me it's a satire. Ahah, funny dude, ah... ah...

Oh God you're for real.

Licensing music costs money. They want to get better tracks so they ditch the less heard station. I love metal myself and give 0 fucks about this. I'm still unsure about SRIV but it isn't motherfucking Blood which is going to make up my mind.

As a metalhead, I'm not too torn up by this decision, as the only worthwhile song on the metal station in SR3 was Strapping Young Lad's Love? (great song btw). Don't get me wrong, I would rather they got some better songs on there than remove the station entirely, but it really isn't a tragedy. At least they still have the classical station (I'm not being sarcastic, the classical station was awesome).

Edit: Looking through the tracks in SR4, I just found out that on The Mix there will be Men Without Hat's Safety Dance. I don't give a shit what they do with their setlist now, I'm just going to be playing that on loop.

Thankfully, I listened to The Mix a lot in The Third.

However I'm upset to see the metal station go, another good thing in the series removed.

The game's not worth $60 anyway. They completely ruined it. And they probably cut out most of the game content to sell it as DLC like they did with SR: The Turd. I would advise anyone who wants to play this game to wait for the full version next year. In the mean time, save your money for GTA V. It's out in less than two months anyway. And new Splinter Cell is coming out at about the same time as Saints Row. And it looks cool. It also has Spies vs. Mercs mode again. One would really have to be a huge SR fan or to be rolling in the money to buy this at launch.

Aaaaaand the thread's done.

Seriously, this is very much a non-issue. It'd be like if I condemned SRtT because it didn't have a pigtail hairstyle with bangs.

That is LITERALLY what they are doing. That is LITERALLY what he said. He said that they're removing it because they want to put the money towards getting tracks that appeal to more people.

How is that not anything BUT trying to appeal to a wider audience?

Then you might want to find a different link, because that's literally not what any of them said in the one you've provided.

Or maybe you can point out one section where they say they're hoping to get more fans by "appealing to a wider audience", because the absolute closest quotes I can find are:
We looked at logging data from Saints Row: The Third as far as what stations were listened to the most, what stations had the longest listening run times, what stations were switched off of onto something else on a different station. Unfortunately, even though there are several fans of that type of music, The Blood was really low on that list.
We definitely tried to gear each station towards fans of that genre, so with GenX, it's kind of the alt-rock/rock genre. [. . .] That's what we try to do with each station: Gear it towards fans of the genre but also put artists and music styles in there that might also get new fans.
None of which have any indication of trying to "broaden the appeal" of the game, just that they're working around the budget they were given and had to make some necessary cuts to a lesser-utilized section of the game because of it.

Even your cherry-picked "better songs" argument is completely misrepresenting what the guy literally said, because he literally said "better tracks for the rest of the radio stations".

Oh what's this? The removal of something I never cared about due to not being a metal head in any shape or form?

*shrugs* Oh well. As long as they don't get rid of the 80's/90's and the electronica stations, I'm good.

Glad it's been cut, the station in SRTT was utter shite. I'm pretty happy that it's gone, especially if that means more reggaeton, dub, ragga and all the rest of it. Some actual techno would be good as the last one had absolutely none, Dave Clarke or similar would be a decent middle ground.
