So the most immature game in the world won't feature the most immature music genre in the world? Well, that's... Actually, I don't care.

I personally always listened to The Mix and Gen X, both ofwhch were sorely lacking in The Third. Ijust hope they're better this time around.

I don't about everybody else here, but boycotting every game a developer makes over a few songs that didn't make the cut in a single game does seem a little extreme to me.

Well the soundtrack to the last game sucked, guess you shoulda seen it comin'. Not that I really cared, most of the metal bands in Saints row were... eh.
Still, considering it's fanbase is rather varied it makes little sense.

As a metalhead, I'm not too torn up by this decision, as the only worthwhile song on the metal station in SR3 was Strapping Young Lad's Love? (great song btw). Don't get me wrong, I would rather they got some better songs on there than remove the station entirely, but it really isn't a tragedy. At least they still have the classical station (I'm not being sarcastic, the classical station was awesome).
Of course it was... nothing helped make the mayhem look like choreographed dance than having Beethoven on the background.

OT: This seems like a rather puerile thing to hold against them. If having an open world game with heavy metal as a background music is all you need, I would advise you to play some more Brutal Legends.

In the mean time, save your money for GTA V. It's out in less than two months anyway.
Unless you like your crime games with PC ports and less "SRS BUIZNESS". Then Rockstar says go fuck yourself.

OT: This may be one of the bigger overreactions I have seen on this site. Personally I find metal to be a joke, but even if they took out the stations I liked I wouldn't care, because the radio is such a minor part of the game.

... really? This is the straw that broke the camels back? You've sworn off an entire developer because they... eliminated a fictional radio station with like 5 songs in a single game? Okay, I guess, I mean you're entitled to your opinion. Go play Brutal Legend or something. As for me, I'll be getting this game day one. The only metal I listen to is classic metal anyway, and they have this awesome thing called the radio that can play it. Or an iPod, whatever.

I'm a fan of some metal myself, but I can't imagine a radio station having THAT much impact on the game. You could mute in game music and set yourself up a playlist to play in the background...

Most people are going to find your reasoning quite silly, so don't expect much sympathy.

Of course, I appear to be in the novel position of actually enjoying more than one genre of music, and therefore not feeling like I should spite a developer because of an extremely minor part of a game.
Aaaaaand the thread's done.

Seriously, this is very much a non-issue. It'd be like if I condemned SRtT because it didn't have a pigtail hairstyle with bangs.
it doesn't?? well i'm never going to play that game fuck volition and all their games!!

OT: is it really that bad that you have to boycott their whole entire collection and future games just because they removed the genre of music you like? sorry to say but when i read your post the first thing that i thought was "this dude is one of those 'entitled gamers'

As someone who is passionately into metal, even down to the way he dresses, I have to ask: is this REALLY that big of a problem? Do you have this problem whenever you play any other game that doesn't have heavy metal? Really man, this is a petty as fuck reason to rag on the game. If the other music stations are so terrible (and my thinking is that they probably are) then just turn it off. I'm sure it has the option to turn off the radio. If not, then yeah, it could be problematic. But I doubt the developers would be silly enough not to include an off button for it. You could also just listen to your own music in the background, that's a pretty solid work around.

Paraphrasing: "Very few players were using feature X so we put the development costs into boosting features Y and Z which they were using."

That seems fair to me. UX is a touchy thing to quantify at the best of times and it's near impossible to get 100% agreement. In terms of developing a game that will appeal to a larger percentage of your current player base, I can totally understand this decision.

Speaking strictly as a player though...if I'm being honest, the music selection in the Saint's Row games is the one area where I find it to be measurably inferior to the GTA series. All things said and done I can't really care about this too much since I wasn't listening to the cock rock station anyway.

not sure about the PC version, but the only "your own music" station they had was one where you add or buy songs to it, rather than your 500 hours of pure musical orgasms that your MP3 player has.
...

The point was more that if it's really such a problem, you could like... turn off the in-game music and turn down the in-game music volume slider so that the missions with actual music are muted as well and use your own MP3 player/media library instead. Even if you don't game on PC, I imagine that many people who passionately play games on their consoles probably own some form of musical playback device.

Idolninja, one of the modders for past games pc versions, has had the pleasure to play saints row 4 and guess what?
You have the option to listen to your own music from the ps3 or Xbox, on foot or in the car. As for the guy saying they removed stuff? They were still putting things in about a month ago and only stopped due to having to bug test everything.

What, like it works like actual in game music?

Because when I usually play my music over the game using the 360's music player it keeps going on during cutscenes and stuff like that.

I don't think that article could've been any more clear. Licensing music costs money. Not a lot of people listened to that station so they decided it wasn't worth the money. Sorry people put common sense above your personal interests.

Just as someone pointed out earlier, I don't understand how the radio stations are what everything hinged on for you. Something that is easily a minor thing in the game compared to greater picture is what caused you to refuse purchasing it?

That's just odd, unless this sensationalism is deliberate. I'm guessing that it is.

OMG, no metal!! /wrist!!! Or wait... I could play the game for the game itself and not really care about the music, since its something barely registering on the total scale of gameplay.
If I want music, I have multiple ways of hearing what I like without resorting to the game's limited library. Of course these days it seems any reason to hate is grabbed up at the drop of a hat.

That...

Doesn't really seem like that big a deal.

I mean, I guess if you're into metal yeah, that would be kinda inconvenient, but eh. That doesn't seem like a huge issue compared to what other problems the game might have.
