Saints Row loses many of the big plus points it gained throughout the game from me, simply because of the ending. Absolutely infuriating. Also the Saints Row multiplayer was a bit crap, all of the levels looked half baked and poorly finished and it wasn't very fun.

So because of that GTA (IV in particular) every time.

Still buying GTAIV for PC, I've played it on 360 and it is gritty and has a nice sense of "mean" to it as well as a wonderfully depicted city full of surly fucks.

I never played Saints Row, but will be getting the sequel for the reason of Monster Trucks and senseless violence that holds more to the older GTA's

Also on the Monster Trucks note, will be getting Mercenaries 2 PC.

Would have no issues with GTA following it's new path. A little more serious doesn't make it any less fun to hit a mailbox and send it hurtling into a pedestrians crotch.

Yeah, Saints Row 2 will basically be a GTA clone with a bunch of new ways to be an asshole. Like Car surfing, spraying sewage on people, and some other fcuked up things for asshats.

P.S. Hm... car surfing, sparying pedestrians with sewage, maybe cement? Come to think of it, I may check it out by renting it from Gamefly...

I guess SR2 would look good if you are A) 13 or B) Retarded
Well, hoorah for being open minded ;) I thought the point on games was escapism, which is what all the stupid stuff is for - i.e. because its dangerous in the real world. Heck, I don't like real world skate boarders cause they tend to be asshats, but I don't say that skating games are stupid.

Am I the only one who thinks GTA IV is by far the best GTA ever? I loved every single minute of that game. Saints Row looks pretty damn good, but it doesn't seem to have the flair and feel that made GTA so special. The satire, the story, the characters, the soundtrack and most importantly the breathing city.
I enjoyed GTA4 as well. Although I didn't like the whol friends feature - too much 'grind' for me to keep them friendly. However, the story, the plot, the world, all I enjoyed greatly. Niko was a far better character than Claude, or Tommy, and the world felt more packed and fleshed out than SA.

That said, I do wonder what it would have been like if they'd gone down a more colourful less realism root. Who knows, they might combine the GTA4 engine with a new setting and location and experiment again...we'll see.

Anyway, on topic - Saints Row 2... vs GTA4. I'm predicting:
- Weaker storyline (but not a weak story, if you see what I mean)
- Somewhat 'not-quite-right' dialog, as before
- More bright and colourful
- Vastly more customization, which I quite often enjoy when their isn't a ton of mechanical effects from it.
- Fun

As I said before, I can get both, so I will. Doesn't mean I like GTA4 less, doesn't mean I like Saints row more, its just that I enjoyed both.

I agree with this, pretty much. GTA4 isnt a bad game, its not great but what is now a days?

I just dont think GTA4 is a very good GTA game, were as SR took the ideals of GTA and ripped them off and from the looks of it SR2 will build on the good points of the original GTAs and SR1.

Still think Nikos a complete tw@ though

I'm not really sure why everyone is thinks multiplayer is so important? SR had a nice length pretty well thought out single player campaign. If we look at the evidence it shows you cant have both good multi and single player modes, CoD came close but by having an impressive multiplayer they only made half a single player.

Different things, Saints Row was trying to be a bit like GTA but SR2 looks like it's own game, going in a different direction, the only thing in common with GTA being gang related, everything else is trying to distance itself from GTA, especially 4 as instead of realism you get a crap cannon. which i think in effect puts them into different categories.

I will admit the multiplayer was also total crap, but the multiplayer dosen't really matter when it comes to rating the game as we learned from Yahtzee's review for Halo whitch is still going on for some reason that I really don't know why.

If we take GTA IV - graphics it = worse than any of the last 3 awesome GTA games.

Saints Row 2 is going to be like GTA 3, San Andreas, and Vice City + GTA IV's graphics which = a whole bunch of other stuff that rocks.

When it comes down to that the only thing you need to worry about is the music and if that fails you can always have your own soundtrack in case.

BTW, I take back some of what I said before, Saints Row 1 did have K-12 the techno radio station thing which ended up being super awesome to listen to. You can see for your self.
