My favorite part about the story is that there is a company that is essentially performing the functions of Vault-Tec with underground shelters capable of withstanding direct nuclear blasts that house hundreds (and even up to nearly 1000) people.

See...if the world does end or an apocolypse of any sort happens...I dont WANT to live. Im unhappy enough in this world, I wont be any happier in a doomed one.

I thought it was 12/23... Or is that Christmas...

Ah well. Either way, it's a great excuse for a party and some free sex.
wait, thats brilliant! find incredibly naive women who think the world will end, and they'll probably be pretty quick to jump into bed with just about anyone, just to end their life with a bang (no pun intended)

exactly. I'd much rather die quickly than live a long life in solitude, noing that humanity is destroyed, and everyone I care about is dead

So...you need a reservation to get into those? If the world is ending, they are going to have doormen checking IDs?

Secondly, where do they get their power and water from?

Meh, I'd rather buy an abandoned missile silo and make my own. Would cost millions of dollars but I'd have the best house in the world...

Oh lawd...

There are some funny people around, aren't there?

People are going OH NOEZ!!! LOTS OF NATURAL DISASTERS... IT MUST MEAN THE END OF THE WORLD IS COMING!!!

How long has the Earth existed? Think about that. How many earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions have happened in ALL that time? This world is an ever-changing organism. Now think of how long WE have been around. We are just a slither on the end of the timeline, and we feel that the world is going to end JUST because the world is doing what it has done for countless years??

People just need some perspective.

I hope the date comes quickly, Us Robots have big plans on 12/22/12.

Big plans indeed.
May some certain mutated vegetables who have been poisoning humans via burgers join in?

Damn those Mayans! Without them this all would have been a surprise and we'd have died without ever knowing anything was wrong. Curse them and their not-infinite calendars!

Alright, where's my wallet?

Ok, seriously? I was thinking about 2012 being real when I noticed that there was an earthquake in Haiti, oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the volcano in Iceland, the Australia flood, the Japan earthquake.

These are all recent. Could this be a sign?

Most likely, no. I don't believe in any of this crap, but it does seem a bit more plausible, that something really, really bad could happen soon.
I've been reading alot of geology & astrophysics journals, and most of them say: Between 2008 & 2015 there will an increase in the probability in seismic activity across the globe, due to the earth crossing the gravity plane of the dark hole in the centre of our local galaxy, We may see a few more earthquakes and events than usual.

The only real problem is if too many nutz take this as an end of world scenario, go crazy and destroy civilisation in anticipation of End of World concept. cough cough BULLSH*T.

So, while the idea of the bunker is a bit over the top.. if you watch alot of net videos about the American government, you'll see that they are taking it serious enough to prepare for a potential America wide lock-down. over 50 new 'civilian prisons' and 250+ overnight detainment camp set-ups? Hmmm.. conspiracy theory? LOL.

I'm with this guy, if Earth's history were only a hundred years long, the time Humanity has existed becomes less time than it takes to blink. The world will continue along as it has done long after we are gone, and, as a documentary I can't seem to find now pointed out, within about 50,0000 years of our extinction, nearly all traces of our civilizations will be completely erased and lost forever. but the world will continue. Talking about "the end of the World," is an outdated superstitious notion and this whole Mayan Calendar nonsense has absolutely no grounding in any kind of actual science, so you know what? I say the world is gonna end to zombies! because zombies are at least based on science fiction, which is more than many theories can claim. Besides, zombies are cooler anyway.

/endrant

On Topic though, if I could afford it, I totally would buy one of those shelters. Not because I need it. In fact where I live is probably likely to remain unharmed by the initial direct effects of a nuclear war/attack. I want one simply because, then I can be the guy who says, "You live in your fancy eighteen room mansion all you want, I gotta BOMB SHELTER!"

P.S. Captcha using accents is SO not fair...

Well, its a known fact that 100% of people who think they won't die, end up doing so!!!
Best statistic ever.

Damn if doomday bunker sales are the up, it seems people have have gotten wind of my secert orbital death lasers, all that planning wasted :p

On topic:

I'll be glad when the 2012 mania passes and we move on to the next upcoming doomsday whatever it will be, I'm getting to tired of explaining to people (including by dad annoyingly) the mayan calander does not signal the end of the world it's just the end of that calander, if mayan civilization was still around today they just put a new calader at the end of this one, like we do every year. Like I try to explain to people who belive the 2012 myths saying the world will end at the end of the mayan calander is like saying the world will end at the Gregorian Calender. And another thing if the Mayans where so good a prophecies how come they didn't see the Spanish coming.

That being said knowing my luck the world will end in 2012 just to make me look like a complete idiot.

Let's just say you do survive the apocalypse.

You're going to be left in a world with people who bought these things (if they work).

Yeah...Welcome to the Golgafrincham Ark, people.

did anyone else get a really strong vault-tec vibe from that?.
im not against the ideas of bunkers, there just larger panic rooms really, but it does seem to be getting a little out of hand
