Okay title is over the top and i apoligise but I was wondering if anyone could suggest any good books or "manga" (in paranthesis because i think they are just picture books and thats not ment like a childs one) for me to read. I would like anything grown-up i.e. no cutesy kiddy books. If it can be something with dark comedy that would be appreciated.

Arkham Asylum, and Watchmen. I'm currently looking into getting both of those now. Also, the Halo Graphic Novel (yes, I am shamelessly plugging it, but I think it is absolutley brilliant).

Err, there's lots of good manga and graphic novels out there. Have you tried the Watchmen one? Pick up on the Hellsing manga or if you are interested in a running series what about Bleach? Also Battle Royale deserves kudos.

Ok i didn't think this that far through so here is a list of what i have read and liked

ANY DISCWORLD BOOK
Deathnote
Tom Clancy's ( insert generic name here )
The Jon Shannow series ( i would recommend it if you haven't read it)
The wheel of time series
The Vampire Chronicles
The bunny suicides (best cartoons ever)
and now my guilty pleasure Ichigo 100%

I didn't like the following

Bleach
One piece
ANY ONE OF THOSE GODDAMN HARRY POTTER BOOKS
TWILIGHT ( which i feel should be burnt)
Any thing by JRR Tolkein apart form LOTR
and there is probably more that i cant think of

Twilight (I actually liked it, I only mention it here because I get sick of people saying it's crap then revealing they've never read it and given it a try first.).

Also, any book by Terry Pratchett or Ian Irvine. You won't be disappointed with the latter (Irvine is easily my favourite author, with Pratchett a close second).

"Bear" by Jamie Smart and published by SLG. I have not laughed at anything so much in a long time.

The Dexter books are a good read. The Bourne Trilogy is by far my favourite series of books, and will make you hate the movies for ruining the story.

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. Its a fantasy series that makes every other fantasy look like Sesame Street.

It's a great Fantasy series, brilliant written, with some of the best characters you will ever read in any book, a original storyline! theres no quest to save the kingdom, Dark Lords, heroes that survive everything and all, cause in ASOIAF no character is safe from death.

Aside from being awesome its a very heavy reading, the first book clocks at 800 pages and the rest of the series only adds more pages. Apart from being big its also very brutal. You have alot of incest, rape, murder, sex, pedophiles and other stuff written with too much explicity. So if you dont have a strong stomach dont read it.

Its awesome.

Manga- parasite, afterlife, high school of the dead, deathnote, and my current read battle royal

Comics/graphic novels- Watchmen, Joker, cable and deadpool and pretty much anyhting by Alan Moore

Books- The dexter series, The zombie survival guide, I am america and so can you, A Song and Fire and Ice series by George R.R. Martin

The last one is my favorite series of books i've ever read. Their plenty mature for you and packed with dark humor.

Comics- if you can handle the cheese I'd recommend some of the Marvel Essential books- black & white reprints of their early work. The Mighty Thor volumes 2 and 3 and Fantastic Four volumes 1 to 5 are all worth reading for sheer Stan Lee/Jack Kirby cosmic-powered madness and fun, with the occasional breathtaking moment of sexism or Commie-hating. It was the 60s, man.

Watchmen is worth a read if you can handle the bleakness, and Dark Knight Returns is fine if you like your bleakness with right wing extremisim, although I much prefer more upbeat stuff. Other comics that I find to be flat-out awesome include, but are by no means limited to:

Walt Simonson's "The Mighty Thor" (5 volumes, the 1st of which was recently reprinted, of seamlessly blended spy stuff, mythology and space opera with ever-escalating stakes)

Grant Morrisson's "New X-men" (3 hardcovers, you don't need to know anything about X-men other than a vague recollection of the movies to follow them and it's just one blistering brainf**k after another).

Warren Ellis' "Planetary" (3 hard or softcovers, with a fourth that he's been threatening to finish since 2005 chronicling a group of 'mystery archeologists' uncovering the secret history of the 20th century, from Godzilla to Rama via Chinese ghost batteries and Aborigine dreamtime reality hackers)

I'd recommend Bill Mantlo's "ROM Spaceknight" as well, but since ROM was a licensed character and Marvel had a falling-out with them over rights the original issues have never been reprinted. I only have about 2/3 of the run myself, and I've been looking off and on for years.

If you liked Jon Shannow (props on being one of like 5 people I know who have ever heard of that character) you should check out Steven King's "The Dark Tower" series, it's a LOT denser, but it's got some similar themes and some really good bits in it.

If you want MANGA specifically...

Nausicaa and the Valley of Wind is VERY good.

Battle Angel Alita is an interesting sci-fi manga about existentialism, dark humor, violence, cyborgs and martial arts.

Full Metal Alchemist is much more T-Rated than Battle Angel, but the Manga has an excellent story and very likeable characters.
