You do need to study you spelled college wrong. But it's not that hard of a test I got a 2190 and on my ACT a 32. And you know what's the kicker? I have so low of grades I can't get into the school I want. But it's fine I'll just go to Macomb Community College.
How do you get a 2190 on a test where a 1600 is a perfect score? Have they radically changed it since I was in school?

Screw the SAT. Go for the ACT. I got a 31, and after applying for a scholarship to a good college even after the application deadline, they offered me their highest general scholarship.

They added an 800 point essay section.

Definitely study, but do not try to cram the day of. Get a good nights sleep, eat breakfast, and remember, no studying the day of. Your job at that point is to try and keep cool.

But you see.. If you brush up on your English.. You will have an incredible essay, and a decent-high score. That said.. I didn't know 90% of the critical reading.
You should already know how to write well, if you can't write a good essay just like that, then, well, I don't even know. You should be able to BS your way through the essay, especially since it's been proven that those who write longer and throw in more facts (regardless of accuracy) generally get higher marks on it.

Plus, the writing section is the least looked at out of the three sections. If you pull an 800 on both the math and reading, a college won't mind a 600 on the writing.

I'm guessing you're from America because these SAT's sound different to ours, but I was completely relaxed about it, I didn't treat the day as if I had a test, I just treated it like any other. But don't do that, British SAT's don't count for shite, the Government's gotten rid of them since I did mine.
Ok, first of all YES I am in America, and second? WHY CAN?T OUR GOVERNMENT/SCHOOLS REALIZE THE POINTLESSNESS OF TESTING THIS WHEN WE ALREADY HAVE GRADES THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL?!?!?
because grades don't show how much intelligence you have or accurately represent what you know. you could know everything taught and just not do any work and it wouldn't be fair if they only judged on grades.

The relaxing thing works, SATs are carrying less and less weight as time goes on (actually, I fit that into my college essay) and are being made OPTIONAL in more colleges in the US. Schools live Penn have actually been turning down people with perfect SATs in favor of people with more extra-curricular activities or interesting skills...but I'm good since I got accepted into two nice liberal-arts schools ;)

I had a horribly vague question for my essay. Abstract thinking vs Planned thinking.

That said.. What Jmegan said is entirely correct.

Especially for critical reading, There will be one answer that doesn't even belong to be withen 5 miles of it.. One that doesn't contribute correctly.. (Like restating something, or the opposite of something) Then there will be two answers, with one being more specific.. Always pick that one.

Why not both?

Actually, if you are an 'A' student, particularly if you're taking honors courses, 100 points on an SAT isn't going to keep you from getting into a school. The SAT actually helps determine which kids are smart, but slackers in class (like I was). College administrators know that a high GPA is more an indicator of whether or not a kid will be successful, so believe me, they'll take it into account.

Now if you're going for a big state school, where they have 30k students and have minimum standards that you HAVE to meet, you might be in trouble, but your OP made it sound like this 100 points will guarantee you entrance, and if you're that close, I have to say that I like your odds.

So think positive and relax. That will help you more than anything, I bet.
I?m REALLY happy to hear that. I am in an advanced placement section of a highly rated school and I have a 3.8 from last year. I also was only 100 off of what I needed for the no question enrolment guideline for the school I want to go to. Sounds like I don?t have to worry as much.

Because I HATED the ACT and did terrible on it compared to the SAT. Also taking both is expensive.

I'm not sure if the test taking procedures have changed since I took the SAT, but drink something caffeinated before the test, and take a water bottle or two into the test. If you start to feel like you're freaking out, just take a sip of water and take a second to relax.

Also, it might be helpful to wear layered clothing, that way if you're too hot or too cold you can remove a layer and make sure you're as comfortable as can be. Good luck.

Yeah, I looked it up on Wikipedia--the essay thing started in 2005. Since I took the test in 1995 . . .

Since the SAT's introduction in 1901, its name and scoring has changed several times. In 2005, the test was renamed as "SAT Reasoning Test" with possible scores from 600 to 2400 combining test results from three 800-point sections (math, critical reading, and writing), along with other subsections scored separately.[1]
