Saturn Beat-Em-Up RPG Guardian Heroes Marked for XBLA Upgrade

Treasure's Saturn brawler-RPG is coming to Xbox Live Arcade with both graphical and gameplay upgrades.

The Saturn didn't take off as Sega had hoped, but many rare videogame gems still appeared on the console during its lifecycle. One of these was Sega's Guardian Heroes [http://www.amazon.com/Guardian-Heroes-sega-saturn/dp/B00004SVZT/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304611402&sr=8-1], an action-RPG brawler developed by Treasure released in 1996. As of today, we can stop cursing Guardian Heroes' high eBay price because Sega has announced an upgraded version in development for Xbox Live Arcade.

Any Saturn gem being made accessible beyond having to purchase the original hardware is cause for celebration, but Guardian Heroes is also a great game. It features 5 playable character types, each with their own personalities and move sets. Samuel is your average sword-wielding tank, Randy is a physically weak mage, Ginjirou is a martial arts expert, Nicole wields defensive magic, and Serena is a balance of knight and magic-user.

The game's levels play out on three different planes that players move between. As you fight enemies, creating combos by attacking with magic, weak attacks, strong attacks, and special moves, you'll acquire experience points that can be used to raise statistics such as strength or magic points. Story-wise, Guardian Heroes features five different endings depending on the choices players make through its branching level paths.

The XBLA version of Guardian Heroes will feature all-new HD graphics, online co-op through story mode with two players, a 12-player versus mode, time-attack mode, arcade mode, and arrange mode. The versus mode from the original game is pretty neat, allowing players to unlock around 45 combatants and monsters from the story mode and take each other on.

Guardian Heroes will be available on XBLA in fall 2011. Let's all buy it so that Sega will follow Guardian Heroes up with XBLA ports of other Saturn titles like Shining Force III [http://www.amazon.com/Panzer-Dragoon-Saga-Sega-Saturn/dp/B000FT61OU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304623981&sr=8-1], kay?

It's a Treasure game.

Just take my fucking money. I don't even need the Trial Version.

Add in the co-op, and, well.

This is the easiest sale for me since Treasure's Gunstar Heroes hit Steam, XBLA, PS3, and Wii.

Please please please release SF3 on something worthwhile - I love my saturn, but I could learn to love the Xbox if Shining Force was on it.

They should ask the guys from Shining Force Central's Translation Project to use the patch they're working on. They've done a great job thus far

Never played Guardian Heros but Gunstar Heros is probably the best game for the Genesis. The two player is amazing.

This and Dragon Force are the reasons my Saturn is still in working order. Glad this is getting some much needed attention.

Guardian Heroes is the shit... Just a little less awesome than Shadow over Mystara... I wish this one sees a port to PSN as well...

The Saturn, a good console with some truly incredible games that cost a shit ton on ebay, but now I see a light. If they were to rerelease Shining Force III and maybe a couple other games, I would be so happy.

I loved this game back when I had a Saturn. Here's hoping a PSN release is in the cards.

I remember having a game called Advance Guardian Heroes for the GBA. I've been looking for another copy for years (a lot of my games got stolen some time ago).

I didn't know it had a prequel. That's kinda neat.

If they re-released Shining Force III they'd have to do so with the other scenarios that were never released in America.

Now, I'm a guy with a pirated 360 console. Which means I don't take it online, just in case.
And then this comes out.
And I'm gonna have to un-pirate it so I can buy this and beat the living s*** out of it.

Yes, that's how badly I want this absolute masterpiece.

Well played, SEGA, but you already got my soul with the PSO2 video. Want some cookies instead?
